    I think the reason people are asking is because it seems outwardly that Frontier isn't giving Elite priority. The game has pretty clearly hit a speed bump. Aliens are very very cool, but not exactly full featured content. More of a basic boss fight with some cool graphics effects. We don't even have any story-driven motivation to fight them yet other than "target practice." And since I'm being straight, the Beyond set of release stuff are things that many people expected already within the last two years. Don't get me wrong, we are THRILLED you guys are finally talking about fleshing out Exploration, but 14 months?? After, waiting 30 months already, that is a crazy huge runway you guys are giving yourselves. I mean we have open wallets here ready to throw money at Frontier. We're just waiting for you guys to release stuff at this point. Yeah, I know the Beyond stuff is free, but for pete's sake, launch a Kickstarter if you need to kick it up a notch. 14 months for Exploration overhauls... I...

    While I do admire the ambition of the OP and the application of logic and reason, homeworld or no - this is definitely the best candidate we have for 'An Important PlaceTM' for the Thargoids. Other than Merope 5c, of course, which is a lifeless ball save for some barnacles. But there's a reason it's a locked system. And I doubt it's because of some more barnacles.

    Yeah I was thinking guardian tech may be next too. I'm not sure we have everything we need though. We don't have an adequate defense against swarm missiles or the yellow lightning. Though the flak seems to take out missiles, and the lighting can sort of be dodged and may be subject to thermal resists (needs testing). Also we don't have any corrosion resistance or way to remove the ongoing effect in combat. Nor do we have a way to follow their wakes, which could require an updated xenoscanner and possibly a new jump drive.

    Uh oh, are we gonna get a 5th Aegis CG, or did all of the complaints about boring CG mechanics have the unintended consequence of stopping the flow of goodies?

    For the people wondering how their ship could sustain damage even with "low speed" realize your ship is MASSIVE, which means even a slow impact carries a huge amount of energy. Eg, Even an impact at 5m/s of a 2000 T space ship is like getting hit with 25 MJ (KE = 1/2mV^2) of absolute hull damage to your unmodded integrity. Why unmodded? In Elite the game doesn't seems to care how much hull you have when colliding with immovable objects. Hence the game seems to model these collisions as inelastic, which means that all of the energy is converted into deformation of the ship's core frame. This is different from two colliding ships where both objects are movable and of somewhat comparable mass. For the people wondering why their gear isn't buffering the impact, realize that if your gear isn't lined up with the terrain, then you're potentially damaging your landing gear / impinged hull. It would be like jumping into the air, flopping like a fish, landing with your legs at a funny angle, and wondering...

    The trick is to line up perfectly on a nice flat area, and then toggle FA until you drift via gravity to the surface and the landing gear engages. Eg, NEVER use down thrust or even slow momentum to reach the ground. Toggle only. Ideally you should finish with FA on and the barest passsive downward vector. Speed should still read 0 the whole time. 1 at the most. EDIT: For this to work, FA button must be set to HOLD. Not TOGGLE.

    Maybe so, but I remember that docking with rotational correction and FA off used to take me a minute or two just to line up, and now it's like there's a magnet that nixes the side rotation + centrifugal acceleration. Likewise, the landing speed conditions for surfaces seem a bit more forgiving. But yeah, maybe I am just more use to my new hotas because lining up for the mail slot is easier now too. Could also be because I was using a X52 Pro before, ha! Yeah that could explain it. That stick is very clunky and inaccurate by comparison.

    Just checking, is FA off easier now? I remember it being a bit hard. The Isonona video inspired me to try once again to go full FA off, and it seems like no big deal anymore to fly through canyons, land on planets, scoop cargo (off planet surfaces even), or dock at a rotating station with rotational correction off as well. I use Hotas and Pedals as well. ThrustMaster T.16000M FCS + MFG Crosswind Pedals. Stick is for Pitch + Yaw, Pedals are for Roll.

    While I sincerely hope that the OP's quote of SJA was in reference to the run of the mill NPCs we encounter in Human space, I suspect that this is yet another adaptation of the Thargoids' AI and that they will be getting some cool new moves. Luckily I am parked in the Pleiades so I can enjoy this new marvel first hand either way. Tbh, I haven't been able to kill a Thargoid solo since the last round of updates with the dodging Cyclops and more aggressive Thargon swarm. If they are being buffed even further, then the Thargoids will definitely become a Wing-necessary event! Which is fine with me, because I am sure I can find a wing if I need to in Aegis Core or some other Thargoid fighting group.

    I think the mycoid virus was tested on humans. From Vaccine 2 log (emphasis mine): "They've given us material the weapon has been tested on, both organic and inorganic, human and nonhuman." There is a little doubt as perhaps it was tested only on inorganic human matter. But if that's the case then this was a pretty misleading statement from a scientist who should be in the habit of speaking more precisely.

    The Thargoid scout was found due to a bug that revealed navigation markers for all special sites in a system when you scanned one special site (IIRC). That would imply that if there was another wreck in the same system it would probably have been found the same way. So I think the human crash site seen in the trailer is probably in another system.

    Yes, I don't like it either. I'd rather that the stuff in the trailers was not in game as it appears in the trailer: that it was just an example of what can be found. I'd also prefer they found some way of varying the individual assets they use to create these sites rather than different bases containing identical models (same applies to the Guardian ruins and the Thargoid wrecks). It bugs me that every INRA sign has identical text and has fallen to an identical angle. It bugs me that the mycoid tanks have the same stains in three different bases. It bugs me that the same break occurs in the same piece of wall of dozens of Guardian ruins. Etc. I'm probably being unrealistic given FDev's size, but I wish they'd found a way to procedurally generate some of this stuff.

    I am torn. Engineering vs Thargoids is likely to make it very difficult to balance the fights for all players and hence force Frontier to enact auto-leveling of the Thargoid AI difficulty. It would also just add a grind without adding gameplay that couldn't be better added by other things. If they do allow AX weapon engineering, it should only be under the conditions: - only to add secondary effects - only if the increase power is NOT RNG, but instead gives PREDICTABLE power increases. This is the ONLY way you could keep the fights vs Thargoids balanced.

    Yeah but to be fair, the OP was asking for advice on a Corvette. The Cutter can slot an extra flak cannon and boost to 470+ so it's not quite the same thing. I've watched your videos with the Cutter and it's quite a bit different. Not necessarily easier, but the Cutter just has a different set of issues/benefits. Imo, the Anaconda might be the best of the three, if you can mod the engines and hull well enough.

    Probably more likely, the two pilots tried to out run the Thargoid, and when the EMP hit them it acted like silent running on a ship at long range. Hence the Thargoid wasn't picking up any threats on it's radar and just left.
