Thanks for your valued input commander, after I've typed 10,000 words on the subject in this thread alone, you've completely convinced me with this undeniable truth, I'm off! o7

ok, screw it, I'll bite, again... Here we go... This is just wrong. I want to supply the data that I get THAT I DON'T NEED to people who hate doing the frustrating base runs for CIF. In return I think it would help out miners to sell off their TUNGSTEN THEY DON'T NEED cos they got it as a side effect of mining whatever else, cos I hate mining, that helps everybody, no? See above.

I think you're right, but not just about the cloud in use. It's more likely to be about the canonical owner of player accounts, which are Xbox accounts and proprietary Elite Dangerous accounts owned by Frontier on PC. From what I can see, these are only shared on the first discovery field of each system, and I guess that these are just plain old text data without a reference back to the originating player account backend (consider the inability to query your first discovereds). If the gameservers used directly by sessions are indeed required to be on Azure for Xbox, then that's indeed a whole other world of pain to unify. Refactoring the player account model, taking into account different platform backends, their customer account models, and how those handle DLC and Game Extra purchases, would give the backend team no end of fun and games. I do something very similar in my day job.

Selfish? I'm done with you. It's like arguing with a potato. All you can say is it'll ruin everything, it'll ruin everything. No established MMO which has gold sellers has been ruined by the way. Night night. Ruined and destroyed I tell you! lol

If I were them I wouldn't do anything about it either, until I was at the bottom of what must be a very long 'to-do' list. I say,! Rejoice and care not for this broken 'feature', let it languish in the UI, unloved, unheeded, a victim of its own disgrace. :) What might be worth campaiging about though, was that Sandro once suggested that it might be possible to make mats drop more frequently based on the pinned blueprint. If that happened (which I don't think it should), then it would not only suddenly have a purpose, it would have an IMPORTANT purpose and still be broken. :( So let's make sure that doesn't happen, eh?

May I make a qualification there... I don't feel the grind is that bad, nothing should be achievable easily, however, I do agree with you that nobody should be forced to grind at activities that wear their spirit down (like mining and prospecting does for me). Therefore there is a need for me who enjoys base runs for data, to swap my data for tungsten which I hate gathering. I only make this qualification because I don't think engineering should be easy, it should reward more investment over time, which it currently does and still would after they implement this material swapper thing, which will help a lot, but not stop you and I clamoring for guilds, banks and auction houses, cos unity, capitalism and interaction of gameplay styles are all missing from this game atm, and are what brings life to a universe.

The Feds (by the way I'm not aligned, I'm just into kicking some Tharg butt (sorry mighty Tharg, you shoulda added a syllable somewhere, obviously I don't believe I can kick your butt!)) are the only ones actively out there looking for them though, right? It's an assumption that the Feds made the first hostile move, an easy one, but an assumption nonetheless. Sherlock Holmes would disapprove. This is a mystery, nothing should be assumed that cannot be proven or disproven. :)

You're right, that seems more likely, what a dictionary they chose! I have sympathy though for FD, it's hard to change systems like this once established without undoing everything that's been 'achieved' to date.

Christ no, do not want. If they could code an 'always on' OPTION then fine, OP is happy and I'm happy but as an actual change to the display that would be forced on us? Nope.

I'm truly dumbfounded (figuratively, not literally obviously) that you would hold these opinions. I can only assume you've had some kind of horribly negative experience with some MMO sometime and you blame player economies for that. We are going round in circles, I keep addressing your points you keep ignoring that and repeating the same ones. Because I DON'T see it. If nobody ever told me that this was happening, I wouldn't know it was happening, because it has ZERO effect on me and my game, because of the way Elite has been designed. Unfair advantage!? You cannot be serious. Someone who bought a geared up account with a billion credits has an advantage? How? The sweet sound of his ship popping while my hull is still at 100% will soon relieve him of any satisfaction or feeling of achievement, fingers crossed he'll leave the game for good after that humiliation. YOU still don't see that credits are not an advantage in this game. I only got 30m in the bank in game right now, but I have a BUNCH of top...

Yeah, I've read it myself previously. I would have asked anyway though because that first post is almost 2 years old and within that kind of timescale you would usually have expected some changes to these kind of mechanics in an MMO, especially when there are 574 pages of discussion following it. It's like googling for where to find certain engineering materials - loads of the results you will find pre-date the introduction of high grade USSs and as such are worse than useless. I tend to assume that anything older than 6 months isn't likely to be current.

I have no doubt it will work, but as others have said, it's curious to blanket blacklist and except with a whitelist, for the obvious and already stated reason, that the asterisks actually draw attention rather than hide... there's a word for something that does the opposite of what it was designed to do, but it escapes me now. Anyway, the usual practice would be to allow and except using a blacklist, requiring cmdrs to change their name at next login in the case of reports, and POSSIBLY adding something to a filter IF it was deemed likely to happen in future. Just my thoughts on that.

Before that video, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. After the video, I'm guessing trying to put 60 missiles up its rear end (they shot it in the back while it was minding its own business for christs sake) probably did the trick. I think we need to be careful not to fall foul of a human failing that is also one of our greatest strengths; seeing patterns (even when they aren't there!)

Kind of, but I bet it was a special snowflake that got the word mentioned in the OP into the filter. I doubt (but don't find it highly improbable) that anyone thought think it would be a useful default word to add on their own, without anyone saying anything. I know it well and still wouldn't have filtered it by default, even for children's content, other usages are too common.

Why, thank you, it's... Um... 1363 years old though, does it still work? Maybe fdev will introduce lead for synthesis. On the bright side, the thargoids can't disable it. Win!

Ubisoft is French? I never knew actually, I hate Uplay so bad I will never buy another Ubi game, The Division was the last one, and I do have a fond memory of that game (I randomly got teh best legendary weapon in the game from a public loot chest the same day I level capped, which was just, beautiful), but I never want Uplay in my life again. I think I hate it more than iTunes

    1) How are ED's missions dailies? Do you get people logging i nthe server en masse at a particular time to get tehir dailies done when they reset, emptying the AH before and stocking it up after?? This is such a strange thing to say, I wonder if you're just disagreeing for the sake of it now... 2) WHAT? Are you talking about setting a bot to fly away from a star find a USS and drop in!? I don't even wanna know what you think it's going to do when it gets there, just that is virtually impossible in Elite without an API, script access or something like that, and it would still be very tough, WITH those things. 3) Yeh, it's already happening, so they don't consider implementing things that could make the game better, because they're scared of something that is already happening, happening. Riiiiiight. I never said these things wouldn't happen at some level. I still maintain it's worth it. As one poster very eloquently put it "Other MMOs have people in charge of banning hacker accounts, why couldn't...

Was a top level WoW guildmaster, main tank and raid leader myself, can't rep you more at the moment, sadly. I quit WoW cold turkey one day. We had just downed the two headed ogre boss in heroic blackrock during Cataclysm, can't even remember his name now, damn that fight was hard, took us two weeks. Everybody cheered and it suddenly dawned on me that after 2 years of tanking at the highest level at least 3 hours a day and 12 hours a day on weekends, I had achieved what I wanted from the game and I never logged in again after that day. Ah, the fantastic memories though. :)

Not exactly, Elite has a headstart in this area (it doesn't have a lot of true MMO abusable mechanics, like dailies, raids, loot, mining nodes aren't fixed, they're random etc), but yes I do have a lot of faith in FD over those other companies, because they are bloated political institutions, FD has the ability to cut a lot of red tape, due to the organisation it is, and no offense to the Americans, who are wonderful, but we Brits aren't nearly so political when it comes to implementing stuff, we are far more do it and iron out the problems after, rather than perform a risk assessment on the risk assessment before scheduling it for 10 years from now IF nobody has any objections (overstatement, but you get the idea, FD is far more autonomous and has a far smaller playerbase and therefore fewer special snowflakes to cater to or who would upset the apple cart), PLUS, we as Elite players are a different audience and a different kettle of fish compared to CoD players, he average of WoW players, etc. I do get what...
