One thing that might help is a thing called Joystick Curves .. http://xedocproject.com/joystickcurves.html It's a cool bit of software that lets you set up response curves for the T.Flight Hotas X to get a larger range of movement for sensitive control around the center deadzone. There's a good video to help getting it set up here .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqzoJPCZM0w

Hiya, yes the final scoreboard can be found in the FX17 race thread over here ... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/382344-FX17-2017-Buckyball-Race-(first-one-back-gets-to-name-their-own-star-system!)?p=6014577&viewfull=1#post6014577

I've not received any further submissions, or had any mistakes pointed out, so the provisional tables are now final standings. The first post has been updated. Thanks to everyone who took part and congratulations to all the winners, I had a great time running the festival, next time I'll go for something with a few less leaderboards though. Special thanks to Alec and Sushi who's random forum comments gave the moments of inspiration that changed the Ironbucky Trophy from a name I'd thought up into the vicious thing it became. Also to the Reddit Elite Miners without whom I wouldn't have found Smeaton Port orbiting that evil little moon. :D The Lonnegan Brothers will be back at Weyl Gateway in the Alacarakmo system very soon hosting The Bootlegger Challenge Rebootlegged, which incorporates an updated version of the Black Riband. Until then it's goodbye from Fat Tony!

I love everything about this race, especially the artwork. And this bit: Can't stop laughing. :D Intent to race, I'll do it properly later when I can think of a battlecry and can get time to play and do a blot. I'll use CMDR Raiko in both events. I've got an un-named Imperial Eagle somewhere that I've never used (got added as a Kickstarter reward when the iEagle was added to the game) for The Squirrel, but what are your thoughts on entering in different ships? I'll be having a go at The Wyrm in The Nomad, but I'd quite like to have a go in an FdL or Python for Viking Raiding Party / Scourge of the North. :)

Hiya Chakras, if you need further hints, tips etc on how to get started (or do pretty much anything really) then check out the "Manuals, Guides and other stuff for new players" section of my Best of Forum thread over here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/321074-Alec-s-best-of-the-forum-(and-elsewhere)-thread?p=4997022&viewfull=1#post4997022 In particular, there's a nice little thread over there entitled "Soooo frustrated" which has some pretty good suggestions on things to do to get yourself started in the game. Also worth checking out just underneath that is "Codgers Elite Adventure" which is a really nice series of tutorial videos from a fairly experienced player who reset his save and then talks through his progression back into the game. Note: A lot of that stuff was written by PC players but it applies equallly to XBOX players (apart from specific key bindings).

It's just this really cool military installation near the main star in the LFT 1748 system. WARNING: if you get too close (and do get close, fly right through the middle of it if you fancy) then the military ships do sometimes get annoyed and come after you (I lost a ship there once). Terrific place for screenshots!

Interesting, I'll think on it. Keybuk ... you really think they ALL move? I mean, if they're ALL gonna move (and yes, I know in theory any megaship "can" move, doesn't mean FD will actually bother moving them tho) then there's not much point having a separate section, I just need to plough on with my "moving" links to the "flight operations" page as and where it becomes necessary. Don't apologise, you're doing a fantastic job of keeping me informed ... really ought to go and discover some for myself. Oh, and the INRA trip is well worth it. Do them in the right order. I'm on a VR tour of them at the moment (three down, three to go) and the mood and story progression as you visit each one is fantastic!

These now added. I think I might draw the line at crashed human ships - I know there are many (or at least used to be) that weren't fixed POI's - I can imagine there are hundreds of crashed ships dotted around the galaxy. I guess I already had these as of this morning (hadn't spotted they were in your list too). I'll add this last batch tomorrow.

I've asked the original race organisers if they happen to have the un-annotated version of that image ... we'll see.

Do you mean this one? Edit: sorry, I just re-read your post and spotted the word "without" ... hmmm, it's not my map ... let me see what I can track down.

last time i tested that (in 2.3) i could not see any difference between a single 22K cr bounty redeem and a 300k bounty redeem. while value might have some effect, strictly speaking in terms of influence gains you are best off with cashing in after each kill. USS bountyhunting around a station + docking computer ftw. diminuishing returns are hitting quite early, though. 12 bounty redeems are only ~25% more effective than 3 in a small population system. also note, that a res session can push your factions influence indirectly by reducing other factions influence via shipkills even after you have hit the soft- or hardcap on influence gains by boubty redeems.

This represents a fundamental flaw in Elite's game design, IMO. Ships are gated by rank, but there is no skill required to attain those ranks, only repetition over a timespan. Just like with the Pilot Federation ranks up to Elite, Naval ranks don't require any special skills or knowledge for players to attain. There are no tests to pass. No achievements to attain. Just do the same things over and over until you make a certain counter reach a certain value. Some people will piddle their way up the ladder, incrementing that counter here and there without paying much attention to it, until they look at their stats and notice "oh hey, I finally made Rank and can get that ship. Yay!" Others will set that ship as their goal and use every method possible to increment that counter as fast as possible, taking any shortcut they can. But in either case, it's all about making a number. Or two numbers, actually: one in rank, the other in credit. I agree with those that say the big ships should be the...

Not sure, but you should sell it at the Canonn Institute. They'll take anything for studying :D

Their reasons, as I'm sure you well know, is that they don't want and have never wanted stealth in the game. Certainly not in the conventional sense of stealth. Silent running has never been intended to be anything more that a short term reduction in heat signature.

Ouch ... you're a hard man to please! :p OK - ignore the snow and ignore the scatter rocks ... how about the general shape and form of surface contour, rock and mountain formations? Feel free to ignore ... I thought it was Bondrewd replying to that for a moment there! :)

That's brilliant, although it does highlight an issue I have with the game, which is how Landing Pads and the immediate surrounding area have damage reduction built into them. If you had of hit the ground, or even any other part of the structure at that speed you would have died instantly. In fact if you had of hit the ground at half that speed you probably would have died. But I digress.
