Has the tiny field of view on your monitor stopped you buying a monitor? Unless you've got a 65" screen at 3 feet, the field of view in a rift is greater than most peoples monitor/TV... Z...

Goemon hits the nail on the head: Original question that was addressing was: .. which seemed to be leading to the idea that bounty hunting *in general* hurt anarchy factions *specifically*, which is not correct. Bounty hunting *specifically* targeting *only* wanted ships from an anarchy faction will hurt that faction (and help the other factions). But destroying wanted ships belonging to non-anarchy factions will only hurt those factions, and have no effect on the anarchy faction (in fact, it will help them)

There was a time... You could by overcharged, focused, efficient etc. weapons from the station outfitting screen (if you were at the right station). It only applied to weapons, of course, but I totally agree with you, and still scratch my head at the removal of these weapons and having them replaced by Engineers. Z...

Give this man a cookie. a big one - with chocolate chips, and anything else he wants on top. Totally agree with the ranking with engineers. It just makes sense that you'd gain rep by doing missions rather than having them make 30 items you end up throwing away... At the end of the day, though, it's still that final dice roll that really triggers me. I spent 8 hours looking for mats to try and get a better FSD roll a few weeks back (I already had a few of them). 40 - 50 odd rolls later... I'm no better off than I was 9 hours before. Seriously, this is the sort of thing that makes me want to punch things - and I ask again, how many of you, after a week of work, would be happy for your boss to roll a dice to work out your paycheque? What about those of you that are students? After a year of hard work and study, your final mark was decided by a few rolls of a 20 sided dice? I'd be willing to be that answer is no one. I mean, for heavens sake, I've even had a great roll turned to crap by a heap of...

Just to jump back a bit... Morse and binary are two very, very, very different things. - Morse is a character encoding system. Binary is a base-2 numbering system. - Binary has two symbols, 0 and 1. Morse, believe it or not, has four. Dit, dah, character separation, word separation. - p/P in morse is dit dah dah dit. p/P in Binary doesn't exist. This is because Morse encodes (some) data. Binary does not. - Seriously. p/P doesn't exist, nor does any character in binary. "But we got encoded messages from binary in the videos!". No you didn't. You got the binary numbers, grouped them into a different base number (either hex or decimal) then looked up an ASCII chart to see what characters those numbers represented under that encoding system. That's one encoding step (english characters -> numbers via conversion to ASCII) and then changing the base of the number system you use to represent those numbers. It is true Binary can be *used* to represent everything. But any combination of numbering or...

Whilst I'm certainly not a mod, and wouldn't pretend to be (and I never do this type of thing), can we please keep the beige-discussion to another thread? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/362836-Do-we-have-a-ETA-on-the-cure-for-the-beige-plague So far this thread has been full of a lot of good ideas. The beige-issue is something that many of us feel is a problem, and it certainly has had an impact upon exploration - but we certainly don't need to derail this thread with that subject.

I gotta admit, I'm actually extremely disappointed with this thread. Disappointed because it has taken me nearly a week to even notice it. I wish I had come across it a lot earlier! Anyway, I want to add my voice in agreement with the vast majority of things that have been said in this thread. I also want to add that Exploration videos are the most difficult videos for me to make nowadays. Largely, the reasons for that have been listed by other people in this thread. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy putting together such a video - and I know people certainly like watching them. However, it takes significant time, and I often have to really, really push to find the enthusiasm to continue exploring. I terms of gameplay, the main problem for me is that time-invested is rarely worth the outcome. This a multilayered problem: Lack of meaningful gameplay systems

Totally. This has pretty much always been my line of thought why the UAs use morse and transmit(ted) human names for celestial bodies... because trying to decode an alien encoding into an alien language would be virtually impossible. It'd be like trying to work out how: SDFSAH##224SF@!!@# equals 456MAGNAWEFAYGHYS% (pro tip, it doesn't... if you want to understand how this feels, base64 encode some output from /dev/random without looking at the original binary. Decode the base64 and try to verify if it's correct or not...)

In a way I agree, but this game is breaking new ground in multimedia entertainment. I've never heard of a game where the accompanying forum threads are also a key part of the process. I don't have any problem with the game puzzles inviting /requiring players to use third party tools to assist solution of the in-game puzzles. But it would be much better to get more directly within the game, more narrative, more puzzles....so that more people can be involved in addressing those puzzles and get the enjoyment that entails. I really hope that 2.4 and 3 gives us a better mechanism to achieve that, and that FD have got a good set of writers to create those story arcs with a strong management process that ensures we get them. At times I think that FD are trying to create a new form of game, with a ten year lifespan, but are limited by the design thought processes that were learnt in the creation of old style fps or sim games. edit: whilst browsing I came across this. Although it's subject is Star Citizen (& you...

I can't speak about why *thargoids* would use morse, but there's lots of good (modern) reasons to use morse. - It's virtually impossible to jam a morse transmission - It's transmission power requirements are very low - It's simple, and lends itself to be quite robust to errors For transmitting device(s) located in the middle of space quite possibly for very prolonged periods of time, these are all very desirable qualities. Ps. Looks like i have some reading to do thatchino...

I aim to please, or at least mildly amuse! The only thing by him that I remember liking was the Imposter. It was televised in UK in black & white when I was a youngster, might even have been an episode of the Outer Limits, with Ian Hendry (I think) as the main character.

Yes, it blocks it, and while a conflict state may only *appear* in one system for a multi-system faction, the "None" state is a red-herring... the conflict state applies for all systems that faction is present in (thus why when in War/Civil War, you see a gradual drop-off of influence in other systems, as the same restraints i.e only combat actions/bonds increase influence, apply to all systems) It's best not to think of war/civil wars and elections as separate things, even though functionally they are quite different. For the purposes of going pending for any of those three they are all "conflict" states and will block each other in pending/active/recovery. So, to answer your question: No, civil war/war won't go pending in System B while the target faction is in Election recovery in System A.

In the ED universe Morse has become known as Federation Blink Code; it is still used. why do the UAs use it is the question. Clearly the goids and Feds have some specific quarrel (unless you subscribe to the hypothesis that they are just fed misdirection & are actually the result of antigoid weapon tests), as evidenced by the large number of fed ships that have been attacked. So the question also spawns further questions-are the goids using FBC to warn off the feds? Do the goids believe FDC is used by all human factions or just one? Is the use of FDC intended to attract just feds/any human ships to investigate/acquire UA & disseminate them around fed installations and thereby cause them corrosion damage while simultaneously mapping human installations for the goids? Is that ploy a subtle way to get feds/humans in general to harvest MAs and spread them around fed/human installations? (is there an insidious theat in MAs?)....

    Hey man,

Just want to say thanks for taking up the mantle with the new Rift mystery thread. That has to be a ton of work organizing and posting everything onto the front page, and must be a PITA trying to keep tabs on the thread and keep it updated. I don't envy you! I know most of us Rifters have said thanks on the forum already, but I just wanted to reach out

    Thanks again!
