Allitnil certainly has the experience, but I haven't heard his ideas on exploration revamps. Erimus just listed his ideas a page or so back, and they are genius. They don't necessarily require a change to the existing base mechanics and would dramatically enhance the experience of exploration.

true. The only advantage of the T-9 is that it costs about 200 Million less to outfit in trade mode and can use a C8 biweave for super fast regen. However, the shielded cargo capacity is nearly identical, and the jump range, shield strength, weaponry, module protection, boost speed, agility, hull are all weaker to MUCH weaker on the T-9. Still love the T-9 though, mostly for the amazing (wasted?) cockpit, and the feel of flying a massive-behemoth that actually feels like a massive behemoth ship. Really hope they use the reuse the T9 cockpit on the T10 defender, or something similarly awesome. :)

You could be right. I only remember it being a bit of a surprise when it was announced. I do remember MB posting a link to a database he created that players could type their commander name into, and it would list all the systems that player had level 3 scanned during gamma and pre patch 1.0 - this gave an indication as to who would get their name on what when the discovery tag mechanic was added in the upcoming patch. Edit : A bit if trivia... After it was introduced there was also a bug that put your name on every single body in a system just by pressing the buzzer, so the surface scanner wasn't needed, nor individual planetary scans either.

I don't recall them being asked for. They were introduced around 8 weeks after gamma started and were partially retroactive (meaning that some of the earliest discoveries were never credited to those who were first). IIRC Michael Brookes made a post out the blue in January 2015 mentioning they were introducing discovery tags in an upcoming patch. Although they could have been mentioned in the kickstarter? It was such a long time ago! :D Heh, thanks for the vote, but there are a lot of old timers still lingering here with a wealth of ideas to throw at FD. :)

I agree with this. The foreknowledge this playerbase now has, with the recorded histories, mapping projects, videos, historical blogs and third party apps would make a reset pointless. Everywhere of significance would be tagged and bagged within days. We can't recapture the mystique the galaxy had in the early days with a blanket reset. It would need a whole new gameworld and mechanics for that I think. I love the idea of hardcore Elite. :) Elite: Deadly. Complete with a fog of war that has been mentioned. Only when you have reached a specific region of space is that regional map opened up to you. Agree also that first discovery tags are something that could be left behind with Elite Dangerous, and not be a part of Elite Deadly. On one hand, yes its nice to see our names in game for achieving something, on the other hand it can often put a dampener on visiting some far off place only to see a thousand other names there (Formidine Rift is a prime example. It loses that little bit of mystique...

As much as I like Obsidian as a person and an Elite newscaster, I would prefer to have a more technical expert like Erimus to be a player adviser to Frontier. Obsidian is a great YouTuber and promoter, but Erimus is an Explorer's Explorer with unsurpassed knowledge and experience and quite frankly a richer and deeper source of ideas for mechanics.

This is something I have been wanting for a long long time. I think it fits in perfectly with the current high wake jump boost mechanics, and imo should be applied to every kind of boosted jump. The bigger the boost, the more difficult the "interdiction type tunnel" should be. I would even be Ok with having a 20kLY jump range as long as the interdiction tunnel was vitually impossible to beat and failure meaning being thrown 20kLY off course and severely crippled ship, possible completely disabled if the AFMUs are too badly damaged. White dwarf binaries should be quite rare for a variety of reasons. 1) WD precursors are not all that common Pop I&II: B,A,F and Pop II: G 2) stars don't age at the same rate, lower mass stars burn slower and live longer lives on the main sequence (hence Sirius B was initially higher mass than sirius a) 3) stars in the future-WD mass range expand when they die, and this mass can accrete upon the companion star potentially altering its lifespan, or causing it to go...

I would go with something like this for combat: https://eddp.co/u/fnVF1qxJ You can use this shield build with any kind of build though (trade/blockade runs/bounty hunting/etc). The beauty of it is that the regen is so fast that all an NPC needs to do is run out of WEP for a few secs and you almost don't even need the SCBs. It can take quite a lot of punishment, even going toe to toe with the biggest baddest ships you'll find in a high CZ.

I agree 100%. Furthermore, I think the entire scan/discovery/jump/route-plotting mechanics need to be thrown out and started over from scratch so exploration is more hands-on and travel itself requires actual planning and benefits from group effort. Going anywhere humans never been before should feel like edge-of-the-galaxy exploration does. If this means throwing out all previous data, I'm more than fine with that.

Seriously? I'm using iTunes 12.6.2.20 in my PC and it works OK. I haven't updated the iPad to 11 yet tho. Are you saying that stops what I've just described from working?

My guess is that the effect will be a bit like what happened in District 9 when the black goo got sprayed into Van De Merwe's face. How cool would it be if you looked down at your avatar after being attacked with these weapons to see a big "prawn" claw where your arm used to be?

I have "manually manage" turned on in iTunes and thus can simply drag the downloaded PDF from whereever it landed on my PC, straight over to iTunes and onto the "Books" section for my connected iPad. Having done that you'll find the PDF under PDFs in iBooks. Alternatively, if you email the PDF to yourself and then read the email using the iPad there'll be an option to open the PDF in iBooks.

As I understand it there are actually two ways of adressing this issue (it's to do with nvidia not outputting full dynamic range and you not being able to change that for the VR headset). One way is to simply use an adapter, the other way is to temporarily plug your monitor into the socket you'd normally plug your HMD into, then use the nvidia settings to turn on full dynamic range, then swap the connections back again (note: I may have these things the wrong way around but that's the gist of it). The downside with the latter approach is that you have to do it every time there's a graphics update.

Grab the PDF (get it by clicking on the floppy disk icon when in reading mode on page one) and then add that to iBooks on your iPad to read it.

Also, the Type 6 has to have one of the best paint packs in the game (Turbulence ) and it's unique to it. Why can't the same pack be rolled out to the other Lakon Type's? The Type 9 would look amazing with this pack!

No idea why this thread is so quiet but just wanted to say thanks for posting these answers! I know the community often leap in and create these threads themselves but it's brilliant to see an offiicial one and I really hope this trend continues in the future. I missed both the livestreams so a quick catch-up like this is really helpful. P.S. were these images taken from the Steve Kirby livestream (or are they player generated)? (I found them mentioned tangentially in another thread)

Thanks, that's nice to know. I don't know much about the man (despite naming my son Geraden) so that's reassuring. LOL, fair enough. I like my pirates to be dandy lotharios so Succorso fits the bill.
