I'm confused, unless I've missed something obvious, judging by your (presumably illustrative) screenshots you seem to be confusing "totally different" with "practically identical"?

Alec Turner replied to a thread [EVENT] Buckyball Racing Club in Dangerous Groups
All the advice that's being given out on the Armed and Dangerous thread led me to wondering ... who was the first person to figure out that it was faster to go straight out of the station until you escaped mass lock? (something we all take for granted these days). The reason I ask, and I'd love to track these down again, is that I seem to recall some very VERY early Buckyball Run videos where people were performing the most outrageous manoeuvres whilst exiting the station to basically pull a 90° turn in the mailsot so they could be pointing at their target system the instant they were outside. Madness!

EDDB is your friend here. Go to eddb.io, click Stations, in the "Station sells modules" box start typing "fighter" and then pick from the list that comes up for the exact fighter hangar module you're after. Enter the name of your current system in the "Reference System" box. Enter any other criteria you have (e.g. "Min Landing Pad" size) and then click the "Find stations" box.

It is a bit of an art form, especially in this race. Once you hit 5s you should almost certainly zero the throttle (it's not quite as simple as that but let's stick with that for now). Having done that, if you continue to fly straight towards your target you're still quite likely to keep accelerating to the point you describe where you're flashing past the planet at 1s with no hope of stopping even if you could manage to skim just outside the exclusion zone circle (rather than emergency crashing/dropping into it). Note: turn on the mouse widget in control settings - this gives you a dot in the middle of your screen that's really useful for aiming just the right side of the gravity braking/exclusion zone circle (also turn on orbit lines if you're not seeing that circle). So, back to our 5s approach. At this point don't aim straight at the station but rather slightly below it (try to spot where the entrance to the station is by keeping an eye on the station hologram on your HUD) with a view to arcing...

Slightly OT but can I ask a quick question about Lone Echo. So I tried Echo Arena at the weekend and the one thing I struggled with a bit was turning around. The tutorial has a lot of stuff about moving forwards and boosting forwards and stopping which was all fine but the first time I went into the arena and flew past the frisbee I then kinda looked over my shoulder at it slowly disappearing behind me and thought errr ... now what? I could of course physically turn around but I don't really like doing that because a) I don't have a 3rd sensor and b) end up with the cable wrapped around me. And I did find that you can push left and right on one of thumbsticks to turn around in increments but that felt a bit naff to me. Given how everyone is raving about the Lone Echo control model and how natural it is I figured maybe I'd missed something?

I'm not unaware of the conceit of complaining about my "worthless" 10 minute times! And as to what you quite rightly point out is the important question, well it's hard to look bad in an Imperial Courier IMHO but I'll let you be the judge of that :D

This all makes total sense to me ... I was definitely pushing too hard this morning. I should have just relaxed and gone for something steady rather than trying to push every last approach and landing to the absolute limit. In the Sans Serif I don't even really have time to re-request a single unfavourable pad allocation - it's basically drop from SC, boost, request permission, boost again (probably wrong), overshoot pad unless it's at the back and struggle to plant the landing.

Irrespective of Vive/Rift I don't really have space in the room where my PC is for these true roomscale games where you do much more than move your hands around, turn around and step to the side occasionally. Funnily enough in ED I have got out of the chair, walked around the back, laid down on the floor to look out the side windows and things like that. With some of the art/creative things like Tilt Brush, Blocks, Oculus Medium, Quill and Fantastic Contraption (the latter of which I haven't tried) it's nice to be able to walk around the thing you're creating and work on it from different angles. This has all worked fine for me in Oculus with two sensors (except I have occasionally lost tracking when my back is to the sensors which I have either side of my desk, or when I'm working with my hands right down on the floor). Actually, the only thing where I had real problems interacting with the experience was the Robot Repair thing in Valve's The Lab (where you have to repair one of the Portal robots). The...

I'd submitted my best effort of 11:05 on Sunday night when I decided to give it one more go and got in a 9:49. I still made mistakes (I think one approach was a double loop AND drop out 100km+ from the station, but the difference from my earlier runs was that I didn't try things that I'm rubbish at. I'm not very good at threading the needle during approach, but I can do a bad imitation of a Cookiehole looped approach (that's my normal Asp-X method) so I stuck with that. I'm not very good a nailing the sweet spot on the pad to stop instantly, so I made sure that I wasn't going stupidly fast entering the station - so I knew that I'd hit the building behind the pad rather than the back of the station. One thing that's taking getting used to in a fast little ship, is only having time to cancel and request a new pad once. Docking in The Nomad I can manage 2 or 3 cancellations and still have time to line up, so I can usually get a pad that I like, but in Stormrider I need to start accepting "anything except...

What, every time you get into the SRV go into settings and turn these options off and then every time you get back into your ship turn these options back on again? Nah, that sucks. This is definitely a reasonable feature request for the next round of QoL improvements and a good suggestion by the OP.

Realize, advocating for 2nd player accounts is tantamount to being pro murder hobo. The main reason that senseless griefing is as low as it is (and it is quite low by MMO standards) is because we cannot just jump on another character without buying a whole other copy of the game. Hence people who don't want to be hated have be good all the time, not just when they are on their white hat account.

Valve's original VR showcase "The Lab" is still terrific. Outside of SteamVR, the standing Oculus Touch experiences I can throughly recommend are Robo Recall (of course), The Climb, SuperHot, Tilt Brush and I've just this weekend had a go at Echo Arena and, judging by the quality of this multiplayer freebie (and also from the reviews I've read) I think Lone Echo is probably brilliant (but I haven't bought it yet). Oh and also, everyone needs to try Google Earth VR. It's not strictly a standing/room-scale experience but it is absolutely stunning!

So much this! Totally agree. In VR I really like looking at the panels to open them when in my ship (because there's enough leeway to also be able to look left and right without opening them) but in the SRV you're hemmed in so tight that it's impossible to look around without the damn panels opening (I think they also raised the SRV panel hotspots back in 2.2 or thereabouts which made this problem worse).

Would be great if players were given more levers and pulleys for sure. And more meaningful consequences to things like BGS actions, and better bonuses for being allied, bigger negatives for crimes committed, being in control of more systems, integrated colonization mechanics, population increases/decreases from immigration/emmigration/death/war/plague, etc. And perhaps most importantly, the ability to grow the wealth and power of a system, semi-permanently upgrade the station offerings and economics, downgrade it as well during rough times. The current BGS system has more depth, complexity, and inputs than many people give it credit. In fact, the woven threads of the BGS create a dance that is a thing of beauty. However, the outputs are so mild that it's often hard to tell when a system in a certain state without checking the system map, or the faction status in the system info tab. I would say that the BGS definitely needs bigger more dramatic swings, and even more levers, and more outputs. I...

I think my problem this morning was that influx of sub-10 minute times, it basically left me in a frame of mind that if the run wasn't perfect it wasn't going to be good enough - overshoot into a loop? not good enough; fluff the landing? not good enough; too long in a gravity well? not good enough. They would probably all have been decent low 10 minute runs (the only one I actually completed and checked was 10:21) which normally I'd have been reasonably happy with but man, the bar has been raised really early on and I've let competitiveness get the better of me. Hats off to Edelgard for a really challenging set of supercruise approaches - this is turning into a Buckyball tour de force!

Girls Best Friend “That concludes this evenings Gal-Vision Alliance News. We hope to see you all for the next broadcast and as always thanks for watching.” I was leaving the bedroom after changing and cleaning up a little as Shoshana finished watching 'The News'. It had been two or three weeks since the Thargoid structures had been discovered and around two weeks since they stopped being headline news. Sure pilots were still looking into them, they were still a big deal to some but to big media. Nope, they had moved on, looking for juicier more sensational stories. The only mentions in this broadcast were that Ram Tah had started to wrap up his research and reduce his payments at the same time. Also that an Ocellus starport had been sent out to the Pleiades to help with research of the structures. Of course to the general public all that meant very little and the initial interest had faded to an uneasy acceptance. “You've been busy this week.” Shoshana stated as I threw the towel I had been...

To the OP ... I can't really disagree with any of the comments for both headsets, as I've said before they're both great, it's a really good time to get into VR and I doubt you'll be disappointed whichever way you go. Do pop back in once you're up and running and let us know how you get on.
