unknown. if you can come up with a test, whether specific state buckets apply faction wide or not, and whether they need to be countered in the system they come from (if they do), or not, please run it and share.

Then perhaps it's not so far fetched if SC goes belly up that Frontier might want some of the scraps .... I seriously doubt it as it would most likely cost more to make it work (with ED) than be useful. Chief

I'll jump ion tis discussion as one who has used a Docking Computer up until the last two weeks. In which time I have been docking manually. My major concern, though I look as carefully as I can, is either getting run over by another ship or running into another ship unexpectedly. I would simply like some kind of proximity alarm that let's me know if a ship is on a specific side of me. In example "Danger Proximity Alert Left Side". Visual cameras would be nice also. But perhaps I going over board there even though more and more cars have these today. Chief

Bought by Frontier Interprises ??? Just kidding ... I have been reading your (all of you) posts and you all seem fairly level headed. At least in the realm of it. I was wondering how many of you have bought into SC? I know I did even though I had/have suspicions that it will never come to fruit. Much like Oleg Maddox vision of the NEW IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. His dream was so big that it was finally abandoned and he was drummed out. Maddox and Roberts share similar ambitions but I'm not sure SC will even see the light that CloD saw. Now I am not bad mouthing anyone there as I bought into it purely out of curiosity with my eyes wide open. Perhaps just so I could talk about it if you will. But on my personal observation if the Alpha of what, four years, is any indication they are a long way from a finished product. If I am proven wrong, that's fine. But honestly I do not see it. 3.0 may be a game changer. But as it is it's kind of user unfriendly to me. If you play me in ED you'll find that I am one of the...

I kind of think this is already in game. I've spent a lot of time in and around the Pleiades, but never once been hyperdicted. Also never shot at a barnacle or a UA. Can't be sure, but it feels related.

with 40 mio you are pretty much in the gap between vulture (10-25 mio) and FDL/FAS (80 mio+). that said, i recommend spending your 40 mio on 3 ships: a) a viper mkIII or eagle, to learn the basics. eagle if you want to learn more (as it can't tank, isn't fast, so you have to think ahead), viper if you want to learn easier b) a courier or DBS. courier if you anyway have the rank, DBS for learning to use fixed weapons c) a vulture. best tool for the job, might get boring fast. but a very serious pve combat ship, which can take down any target.

i guess that will be a "repair limpet controller" - but the lightweight modding works on any limpet controllers afaik (no, i have no shielded prospector limpet controller, as much as i miss it!)

what i have seen looks like anti-thargoids weapons, not like anti-thargoid defences, so will be most irrelevant to me most of the time.

... well, i have a class 1D lightweight collector limpet controller down to 0,1T for my speed courier (as that is hard to get below 40 m/s ma scooping speed).

I don't PvP in Elite, so grain of salt, but basic tactics seem to dictate that if your goal is to fight specifically "against FdLs" flown by those in the "serious PvP crowd", you need to recognize their main strengths - the speed and agility to dictate the terms of a fight - and either negate it or use it against them. I can see how someone not wanting to fight can use that against them to create an avenue to escape, but given the PvP environment in Elite (no real in-game goals or anything, just brawls), I don't think you can use their speed against them. So I'd focus on negation - long range weapons, engine disabling weapons, maybe drag weapons. As it currently stands, I think the Corvette is a great ship for fights that don't really exist in Elite. It's great at controlling a specific area. But until content is released that actually makes it worthwhile for players to control a specific area, your biggest strength is negated by game design, and your biggest weakness is amplified by it.

depends on a) which ship you fly for exploration. the jumprange hit due to mass is significant on a courier, and neglectable on a conda b) are you going anyways for a close up (me, if i only scan shinies)? - fast is your friend c) are you going to scan all moons of a gasgiant? - fast is your friend d) are you scanning a lot of bodies with a higher mass (me searching for pristine rings)? - longrange is your friend

there is this old list: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/272830-A-List-of-Less-Obvious-Engineer-Modifications-for-Exploration-Vessels .... which is missing lightweight life support, lightweight sensors, lightweight heatsinks, lightweight plasma slug railguns, and fast or longrange DSS on it.

Having posted a number of times requesting these two specific things, I am really, really excited to see them going to be added in. Woo! I do hope that when limpet systhesis is added, it's done via mined resources (the kind you can sell as a commodity), and not just collectable materials (the kind you use to restock ammo). I know you can get both from mining, but you can only mine specifically for the commodity variety, and I think it would be great to open up combat-support roles for miners or repair-oriented, miner-supplied ships at deep-space repair docks. I'm really excited for the variety of scripted and emergent gameplay this will allow. :D

I think you're misunderstanding the randomness. As others have said, asteroid content is not random. Beyond that though, there is a factor that's far closer to being truely random here, and that's the player. It's "technically possible" for a player to enter a ring where half the rocks are 95% painite and still never find a single painite - because the player choice in what to mine is functionally random, given the huge selection of rocks and directions to head in. An element of randomness and technically possible stupidities are always going to be a factor in anything, because of the human factor. Designing to statistical probability creates a lot more interesting and true-to-life gameplay.

I think the exact opposite. Hull repair should be out of combat, and limpets should be just as easily killed by point defenses as they are now. The ideal for this for war/civil war state systems and combat isn't just a healship in CZ's, it's opening up entirely new gameplay types. You can have faction-specific "Dry Docks" near active conflict zones, where the fighting ships need to travel to. This opens up "dock defense" mission types, where you defend your damaged combat ships and the T-ships repairing them; "dock assault" missions where you take out your opponent's infrastructure; interdiction missions where you hit damaged high-value targets trying to limp back for repairs; resupply missions where miners, haulers, or even fuel-scoopers work to keep your dry docks stocked; more interdiction where you intercept the other faction's convoys, and way more. Properly removing hull repair from combat massively opens up new gameplay opportunities.
