That's a topic for a completely different thread (i.e. it has already been running for some considerable time)....

You need more ship types. :)

I already applied for the Wacky Engineer job. I got the classic Frontier response. :(

Hmmmm. Anytime open players complain about how easy it is in open, the NPC's get ramped up, and are inflicted on solo as well. It works both ways. Here is something simple for you to understand: I Am Not Your Content. Shove us all into open, and you will lose enough players to make the game nonviable. No "majorities" are required. Just enough of them to sink the game. Enjoy the game as it is, you keep telling me when I get my empennage handed to me by it. It works both ways.

You should try aircraft. The annuals on our Piper were enough to buy an economy car, at the time. My Dad's friend had a Beech Debonair (first Bonanza with a straight tail). Flew like a Spitfire, in it's precision. Very powerful airplane. He could afford it, since he was a CEO. You have to remember, this was the Sixties, when General Aviation was in it's last Golden Days. Now, the cheapest Cessna is $300,000 USD. You don't want to know how much it costs to maintain, hangar it, etc, etc. And you have to fly 100-200 hours in the IFR system to stay current. There's nearly thirty thousand dollars, by itself, minimum. Now, imagine what the ordinary guy thinks of the lowliest Sidewinder owner...

That is one way of approaching it. A different way might be to allow substitution of materials / elements / data for others in the same "group", as I proposed here:

These are pretty good, in my opinion - and the low "stick-out" makes them unlikely to be broken off when sticking out of an accessible USB socket:

How many of those vaunted 3 million units are alt accounts? :)

CD sourced audio would only require 1411(.2) kbps of data throughput, uncompressed (i.e. WAV). My FLAC library averages c.894 kbps. USB (even 1.1) would be fine - anything else is overkill from a purely music playback perspective.

Try maintaining a Jaguar, with a V-12. :( Or, even an MG. Volkswagen Rabbits (Golfs) were coming on the market, and were better cars.

After I got out of the cockpit, I would pull back on the steering wheel, from time to time, as I approached V1, or an obstacle in my way. :)

Simple. Turn The Mistress loose for about 48 hours or so, and see if you think it's too easy. Then, go to CQC, as you wait for Frontier to pay the AWS bill for too much under-utilized server space. :)

It rather depended what one was doing and where - it also had much less to do - and there was only one path to Elite and that required combat. This game has three paths to Elite and only one of them requires the player to fire a shot at anything. While this game is a sequel to that game, it contains so much more.

Along with the infinite lives and the ability to only lose what had been gained since the last save (that one could revert to at any time)?

A different approach might be to look at the K/D ratio for a player against NPCs (which should also probably take ship disparity between CMDR / NPC(s) into account) - the higher it gets, the more likely the player is to encounter an NPC with AI, ship and loadout that should offer a more challenging experience. The reason that Combat rank is not a measure of player capability is that, even if the player continues to destroy lower ranked NPCs, their Combat rank will (eventually) reach Elite - like the previous games, Elite rank is a measure of endurance rather than skill.

I want to blow Cochrane Station (Itza) to particles with a Unthinkable Torpedo. Docking request denied, due to no space, shows the need for a full Coriolis station there.

Robert is correct. The Distributor is key, in the number of boosts that can be performed before recharge. A max (overcharged) power plant is assumed. Dirty Vs. Clean is a source of dispute, but either will help.

It will be interesting to see if Frontier share that opinion. Which apparently affects a tiny fraction of a percent of players - who are being contacted individually. It would seem that Frontier don't want to just "cut them off".... Other than total franchise units sold we don't know the demographic split between Horizons players and those who only own the base game - to suggest that Horizons players are in the majority, while plausible, is an assumption.

Regardless of the price of the software, the increased hardware requirements for Horizons may price running it out of reach of some existing players - it is not at all difficult to have sympathy for those players. As to Mac players - they have no option except to play on a PC - another financial hurdle (and not everyone wants / has the skills to run BootCamp on their Mac). In instances with only one player - more than that and it gets "complicated".

Not all players - those without Horizons (and those who cannot run Horizons) don't have access to any Engineers at all. It's unlikely, in my opinion, that Frontier would choose to alienate these players by making the game too difficult (in general rather than avoidable difficulty) for vanilla ships.

Yet in the previous games the player had "infinite lives" and could choose to restart from any save game that they had stored - not in this game though - endurance is the correct word, as that is all that was really needed to gain Elite ranking (unless one was playing self-imposed iron-man).

A side effect of making NPCs, in general, more challenging in Solo than in the other modes is that, coupled with the ability of players to form Wings for mutual protection in the multi-player modes, that would make Solo the most difficult mode in the game (as the vast majority of the galaxy in Open and Private Groups is exactly the same as Solo, except where opposing players are encountered). Ironic really given that Solo / Private Groups are often referred to as "easy mode"....

A familiar name from the days of MWO 2014 or 15. Are you still playing that?
Anyway, best regards and good to see you sir!
May the High Guard ever be at your back, and may you have your own Ashanti High Lightning to bail you out from the evil Elite Pirates. (I just saw that that rule book would cost 17 Euro now. Gulp!)

"Are you people working under the assumption that playing Elite is meant to be fun?"

"The elite dictionary does not have the word sympathy in it but has about 500 definitions of stupidity"

The contempt with which the game treats it's players is not accidental. It's by design. The game hates you, that's just the way it is."
