    Cheers, didn't know they restricted cmdrs from landing. BTw, was fairly certain that cmdrs still sold mission cargo back to markets, how would that even work if they couldn't land? Just moving around to different stations?

    This is something we discussed way back in Beta, (For simplicity we'll stick to flying in a straight line) the thruster visuals and behaviour is correct FA-OFF, thruster behaviour should be exactly the same FA-ON, once the artificial limit is reached the thrusters stop firing. No idea why they left the visuals incorrect with FA-ON, flight model wouldn't change and it is all coded correctly for FA-OFF. Fuel efficiency is relevant, because our ships can set any thrust level and have zero change in fuel flow. If we could have that kind of tech in reality it would be a complete game changer, within ED it means our ships can fire all thrusters with zero consequence,

    Of course fuel efficiency doesn't determine agility. However, having a fuel flow that is static despite thrust output would be a huge game changer, you would be mad to state otherwise. I can say for certain that if in 2017 we had just the normal space thruster tech from ED, space travel and how space vehicles operate would be completely different. Fuel burn from manoeuvring thrusters is a huge limitation in how space vehicles currently operate.

    Hence the expliot, not something myself and many others ever did. Pretty much the same as most other exploits, you have guys sitting there mode switching and selling cargo back to the station, pretty much all the devs had to fix, that particular exploit only got fixed 2 years later with 2.4 :-/

    Do you honestly think the Orbiter would have been operated the same if it had unlimited thrust and a fuel flow that is not affected by thruster output?

    Was so much fun. Unfortunately Cmdrs selling cargo back to the market caused the devs to shut the whole thing down, the fail on scan also needed a bit of work. A huge amount of potential for smuggling gameplay, just needed tweaking... It's a shame exploiters have to ruin things.

    Dead in the sense that those huge payout/ fail on scan chases back to bubble are no more. You could still get missions out of Robigo, I wouldn't bother with the Sirius stations unless you are in the neighbourhood. I haven't been out there for over a year.

    Am not even sure what you mean by that, you want the ships to handle like they have today's primitive fuel hungry thrusters? Morbad, something I have brought up many times in the past. Since the late 1960's and the application of flight control laws (for example C* Law) Handling characteristics result from a number of factors when designing a flight control law: Safety,familiarity, Fuel efficiency People tend to go on about Kerbal space program, the big difference here is that sim is based on current tech, space flight today consists of finding the most fuel efficient way to perform maneuvers. If we had the same kind of thruster tech as in ED, flight computers, handling and spaceflight would be completely different to what we see today. in ED with unlimited thrust on tap, fuel efficiency doesn't even come into the equation. Any flight model would be available, all depends on what the manufacturer is trying to achieve. I would also expect software limited speed, I also doubt very much humans...

    As already explained, gravity will cause the ship to accelerate way past the software limited top speed (You can actually see the engines try to slow the ship down) Regarding the turbulence, really my only pet peeve with the flight model: It is not atmospheric turbulence, rather a very unrealistic attempt at simulating the thrusters struggling to maintain stability when at a nose down angle.. Absolutely no reason why the thrusters couldn't keep the ship stable, if you disengage flight assist and manually stabilise, the ship will stay steady. I guess the devs wanted to add some form of challenge to hovering on planets, so added an unnecessary fault in the flight assist logic.

Fat Tony's Festival of Racing - Provisional Final Standings THE IRONBUCKY TROPHY CMDR Aken B. made a late effort to wrest the Ironbucky Trophy from Cookiehole's hands, but despite a valient effort which improved his times both in both ship and SRV it wasn't quite enough and the open-unlimited Ironbucky Trophy goes to CMDR Cookiehole with his time of 1h14m17s. Meanwhile in the empty Cobra Classic Ironbucky Trophy, CMDR Bruski took "slow and steady" to new heights as he spread his Ironbucky attempt over three days, finishing with a time of 73h43m15s to take the Trophy.

    Completely defeats the point of FA-OFF. My only gripe with half of these 'Change the flight model' topics is that half the contributors don't actually understand the flight model, both FA-On & OFF. What you are essentially asking for is training wheels for FA-OFF, learning manual stabilization is the most basic part of that learning curve. Manual stabilization is also what gives FA-OFF far more freedom in manoeuvring over FA-ON. FA-OFF is the closest we will get to a newtonian model

    Honestly mate, best not to worry how others make credits. The exploits have always been around, the devs eventually come up with a fix, fully agree that the devs should be more on the ball with plugging exploits. 1.5 mill per round trip isn't great tbh, you can make a lot more doing system state trading combined with regular haulage missions. If you really want to max profits, stick a single economy class cabin in there as well, I normally pick up an extra 600,000 to a million transporting a few passengers going to my cargo destination.

    Is that so? It seems like it's always been mostly like that (before XBox*) but maybe the end goal of ED being available for consoles is evident in the initial design? Perhaps not the swapping storing thing... I'm not sure of the history there! In some ways I agree but I also think you get a better service from independent products like that. Perhaps also more reliable?

    Okay, Fat Tony's Festival of Racing has now come to a close. Hope you all enjoyed the racing. :D The Lonnegan Brothers are just double checking all the submitted runs, provisional final tables will be posted around midday galactic time. The submission forms will remain open for another 24 hours for anyone who began a run before midnight and any adjustments to the final standings will be made once all entries have been received. Sorry it didn't work out, I was looking forward to see how your Ironbucky time compared.

    Just finished watching Rusty Dogs stream. He was in a Dropship, I think the other two ships where a Cutter and Cobra. They where able to destroy the Thargoid ship using a combination of MC's and Missiles, took a while but they did it in the end. @ sollisb - They are pulling ships out of witchspace out in the Pleiades.
