    And there's no need for challenge to equal pew pew, either. Suppose there were stealth surface scan missions, where you had to remain out of the lines of sight of skimmers? Or ones where the data points were further apart, requiring crazy fast point to point driving skills. Or ones where you have to scan Key Code/Secret Passphrase from Location A, in order to sneak into Location B (Hmm, I smell a new mission chain type...).

    Yes, quite frankly this guy is clueless. He seems quite happy to repeat the same tasks, the exact same say, over & over again-& pretend its fun just because the payout was large. By making the same type of mission play out a little bit differently every time will make said missions feel far less repetitive and therefore less of a grind.....regardless of the payout. Tonight I got 1.4m credits for a surface scan mission which literally had no danger to it. To be honest, as soon as it was done I logged it just bored me to tears. That is *not* how I want this game to make me feel.

    Another perfect example tonight. Took a surface scan mission worth 1.4m the hope that the outpost in question would be brimming with hostile forces ready to leap on me as soon as I breached the trespass zone. However, there was no trespass zone, & only 2 defense turrets.....neither of which reacted to my presence at all.....even as I stole the data I'd come to collect. So just another boring milk run. Sad :(.

    This 'start menu option' needn't be a GUI element. It should be in game, dictated by the geography of the galaxy, and the difficulty level should be set by the player's choice in where they fly to. I and many others, in this thread and in other threads going back at least 3 years, have argued for more distinct 'political geography' in the game that dictates a wide range of challenges. In all that time, the only response from FD on this request has been the 'security level/wanted level' popup on activating hyperdrive. Any chance of them taking a position on this this time around? Amen. Most of the time, because I went into the scary system. Sometimes I want it to come out of its hiding hole and surprise me, too.

    To summarize, this thread seems to be unravelling into two skeins: 1) A request for a variety of surface scan settlement challenges, ranging from unopposed, to heavily defended sites that will challenge a wing of Commanders. 2) Making mission payouts appropriate to the challenge, so that their rewards are significant to the Commander completing the mission, whether a new player with a few hours in the game, or someone who's been playing on the same save since Gamma in 2014. -- 1) might require clearer signalling of the hazard related to the 'level' of the mission than commander rank and the '+++' rating of the location. It's unclear whether an 'Elite' mission implies that it requires an end-game engineered ship, or can it be achieved with a silent running small craft? 2) appears to be a derivative of 1). I wonder what the fundamental economics used by FD's designers to determine mission payouts are? Are they deriving them from the strength of opposition, or the distance of the mission...

    I remain convinced that Missions are the bread & butter of the game, so obviously it's the system I want to see improved the most. I must say that-glitches aside-the Mission system has undergone far greater improvements since launch than any other part of the game. Which is fantastic.

    Yep, not long ago I posted to the Suggestion Sub-forum that certain Factions should have natural in-system enemy/hostile factions-like Dictator vs Democrat, Anarchy vs Non-Anarchy Factions.....that kind of stuff. The idea would be that increasing your rep with one faction would always cause a similar decline in your reputation with that faction's natural enemy-with attacks on the latter faction just speeding up the rate of decline. These inter-faction rivalries could be further heightened by having various factions affiliated to Powers, so working for one power will off any factions that are affiliated to an enemy faction. Fingers crossed this is the kind of stuff we will see, post 2.4.

    Oh and this is what I came here for. Is there going to be any system in place to ensure variety in chains and wrinkles? In other words, to prevent multiple missions of the same type from 'wrinkling' in the same way? It looks samey when two missions are both complicated by opposition that manifests as two instances of the same ship type and rank.

    Couldn't agree more. Funny how those who are quickest to complain about the game being a "GRIND" are also the same people who complain about any suggestion to actually make the game LESS of a grind. Then, it's suddenly all about "don't hurt my 'Credits per hour' rate, Man!!!"

    You mean the in-box message? If so, then that'll be *fantastic* :). Believe me, Missions will be one of the only things I'll be testing, so I will definitely let you know the outcomes! Also, whilst you're here, I was hoping to "pick your brain"-if you don't mind? I was wondering if there was any plan to make some of the mission texts a bit less....generic? As an avid role-player, a more varied & contextualized description of a mission-by the mission giver-would really help to deepen my immersion. Also, are there any plans-post 2.4-to up the frequency and variety of mission wrinkles-especially for more high paying missions? Again, any answers you can provide......even if they come with the "No promises, no ETA's, no guarantees" caveat....would be greatly appreciated!

    Yeah, I have a dedicated mining Python specifically for RES sites. I used to mine the open rings, but now it's RES every time. Even as tough as my Python is, Medium RES is as high as I can go it alone. Have to have a wingman for High, and more for Haz. Those yields are so damn tasty though, and with turrets on the Python, I get to pick up bounties on top of the cargo. RES mining is pure sweetness :)

    Nope, not Elite either, just someone who wants missions to be exciting. Not that I'd expect someone who loves grinding to understand what fun or excitement actually are.

    Actually, just after 2.3, I found Skimmers had been improved significantly. They started to swarm you more & make very good use of terrain....oh, & wouldn't just sit in one spot. They need to be beefed up though, & they need to be much more aggressive.

    What the hell are you even talking about? I have only 4 relatively cheap ships & a bank balance of less than 25 million....oh, & I don't grind the game. All I want is for mission difficulty to reflect the pay-out, & for missions to be more interesting than a simple "fly from point A to point B-then back again".
