I'd be happy for CQC and Time Trial races to only be for actual fighters (ie: as per CQC currently and slfs). eg: Not Eagles etc... However, as regards entering CQC, time trial or fighter based missions, tasks or CGs, I see no reason why not to simply "spawn" there via the holo-me appear in the ship, in the right location, done! Keep it simple/immediate... eg: See a mission for CQC? Undertake it and immediately holo-me into the CQC gameplay. See a mission for a time trial race? Undertake it and immediately holo-me into the fighter at that location... See a mission to protect a ship with a wing of fighters? Undertake it and immediately holo-me into the fighter at that location... etc...

But you can do other stuff too, the lottery is included, not the whole thing. If IRL you bought 1,000 tickets you would increase your odds of winning something, but it would be a poor 'get rick quick' strategy. Same with the game. Just because others choose this path doesn't make it compulsory*. *And if you want to have the best PvP equipment, I think you should put the effort in, just as others have, just as you (presumably) put the effort into improving your skill.

Someone parked a spaceship on your front lawn & tossed you the keys. It's up to you what you choose to do with it. I like driving. Anything. I drive the same roads everyone else drives, but for me it's fun, it's a challenge not a chore. The roads are no different to the ones everyone else uses, only the way I use them is different.

Had CQC been put into the core game in some guise, imagine a reskin of it being used in Powerplay, where an outcome is dictated by combat at particular location. The combat is simply some combat scenario of attack/defend an area/station/ship etc etc... Even if we simply consider standard CQC in the game, missions could pop up offering you a bonus if you complete/win X matches etc... Hell, just run a CQC CG! You'd not want to split up the events too much. I'd suggest non-engineered (stock) and engineered events.

This is a huge failing IMHO with CQC. All that development time/effort spent on a stand alone game, when it could instead have started injected mechanics into the core game to be leverage elsewhere. eg: Undertaking a mission to fly a fighter patrol from a capital ship. ie: Utilising CQC fighters for other types of gameplay. FD would clearly need to develop NPC fighter AI that you could fight against, but if we assumed that was done, there could then be a version of CQC in the core game that would then have the means to offer PvE combat too! Having CQC as a stand alone game, instead of injecting that type of gameplay into the core game, was a big mistake IMHO. Imagine in the core game being able to undertake a mission/task and immediately holo-me into a fighter, at a location, ready to undertake it... And this could anything from a CQC type PvP fight (as per now), to a CQC type PvE fight, to a fighter patrol/escort type mission of a myriad of types...

Right, right. Goofy buggy business in goofy buggy buggies and all that, so this is likely something more for support to sort out. No questions there. I guess having not seen the video still yet for myself – honestly, seeing the droppings of context isn't how I get my jollies. So, permit me that. I'd just like to see ways in which us players can interact with each other serve to be more rewarding and altruistic. I'm not a psycho, and I don't play this game as one either. There is an empty seat in my fully combat loaded Vulture exploration ship, and I'd honestly love to be able to take someone back home in it if they needed me too. I would suck it up hardcore and take someone all the way across the galaxy in one play session if need be, something which I would never do for myself and on my own behalf.

I was suggesting things like this nearly two years ago... Combat Arenas Dedicated zones where PvP is promoted. Rebuy costs would be covered to some degree too. With the event of CQC, I see no reason why it's mechanics couldn't be employed in such arenas too - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=110531 (Such areas should be few in number, probably in a single dedicated system?) Time Trials Offer courses which CMDRs can try and do in the shortest time - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=110009

This whole thread could have been avoided with a simple change in tone: "Fdev, can we please have a combat CG this week?"

I've had a fair amount to drink tonight. I'm all for who can pee the furthest. Behind this bit 'o belly pudge I may be presenting dwell abs of honed steal, hardened in the furnaces of hell fire and sung on the anvil of mighty giant dwarfs ringing true. By the way, this is probably the best Frontier staff post I've ever seen. Thank you for surpassing my expectations. ... Just so and to clarify and make sure you know I mean what I'm saying: I'm not posting this as some kind of weird irony or anything like that. I really like when people are more human and down to earth, whatever that means, but I hope you know what I mean. I haven't posted in this thread so far as I really couldn't care less what the OP things, honestly. Nothing against them and their point of view; I just have my own, if you know what I mean. Drama threads, dirty laundry, greasy wheel, and all that, if you know what I mean...

If you're having to board-flip or are only getting missions you don't like, you're in the wrong system or at least at the wrong station/working for the wrong factions. Big hint: don't follow the Reddit bandwagon. Sites like Ceos/Sothis aren't half as good as your every-day, "normal" hub systems smack dab in the middle of the bubble: all you need are lots of factions serving the superpower you want to work for, a few stations that aren't more than a couple thousand LS away from the jump point, and if you're lucky a focused destination system for the missions you can collect there.

If you're using wireless internet, don't. If you can't get an ethernet cable to your router, use powerline adapters. I have TP-Link ones, they were literally plug-and-play, no software or finagling required beyond a single button push on each adapter. Mind you though, the connection can get spotty if something like AC turns on - but there's a workaround: make a .bat file (open a notepad file, put in the text, save as a .bat) with this: ping -t -l 1 <your router's local IP address, example: 192.168.1.1> What this does is ping your router constantly, removing the time cap that normally comes with using the 'ping' command, and also downsizes the packet size to a single byte - so you're literally just maintaining connection to your router over your powerline by pinging it every second with a single byte, which I presume prevents the signal from being lost in the 'noise' of other things in your home turning on/off.

You'd think shields would just have a Core Internal slot in all ships, since everything seems to indicate that, from a design point of view, the message is "Always have a shield on." Even if just one to prevent bump-and-scrape damage. I mean, that's the idea I've embraced, since landing *perfectly* in a shield-less ship still made me take damage and I just wasn't comfortable with that.

Question in title. Does anyone know? (Yet another tidbit of rather vitally-important information that seems impossible to find...sigh.) I've been using SLFs for the first time and been enjoying having a 'buddy' with me in my Corvette, but to my dismay I recently learned these pilots also 'steal' half your combat experience. So with my next 'big goal' being to reach Combat Elite - I need to know: if I get my NPC's rank up to Elite, will it continue to steal half my experience after that point, or will I start getting full experience per kill once they hit that threshold?

I think part of the point behind CGs is to get players to do things outside their comfort zone. Personally, I'm not a fan of mining, yet I've been enticed to mine for a few CGs. I did actually enjoy it, even though I seldom mine w/o a CG involved. Personally, I'd like to see some completely different types of CGs, not just trading or combat. How about having to fly to a neutron star, sample the jets with some new exploration gear, charge your FSD, and jump back to the bubble, to turn in your jet data? Or how about a CG which requires the use of an SRV to perform some action that you can't do in a ship? I'm sure we players could come up with some good CG ideas that are quite different from what we've been doing lately.

Man, those new weapons could have been such a cool new addition to the game, forced us to think about yet another resistance type and made themselves fit within the current pantheon, but instead we got: X module for y content and y content only at the expense (rather than in congruence with) everything else. Such a missed opportunity!

So, I'd like something good to come of this conversation other than just pointing and laughing, as it were. What are your thoughts on rescue mechanics and should this be something Frontier implements, time and viability permitting? :)

    Hi there Malc' :-)
Hope all is good with you?
I don't play anything like s much as I used to. Because I don't enjoy it that much. Can't get into "Engineers" ....too much RNG action for my taste.
    Hope you are doing well.
