You don't get it, mate. They (I, in this case, sort of) don't get the opportunity to earn (for what it's worth) the real Elite rank in the game. It's about players having the opportunity to earn something in the game at least, even if it is largely just an endurance trophy. Trust me, I wish it were more than that, but at least that is something. At least I can kind of see endurance being an admirable characteristic of explorers, in theory.

Putting it this way does: "surviving the unimaginable boredom that sets in once you realise just how many credits you need to do anything." Your words, not mine. Last I checked the grind, as described there, in EVE is potentially thousands of times worse than anything Elite can possibly throw at you.... Nonsense, this is clearly a sign you've simply burnt yourself out, but moving on. So basically you want Elite to be Mass Effect and you want to play as John Shephard. Great news! You should head over here: https://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-PC/dp/B00140P9BA

That's a poor attitude to take, especially when FD are many times better at taking in community feedback than many other gaming companies I could list right now. It does no harm to patiently remind them (preferably without burying it in reply chains to complain threads). __ Fancy that, huh? It's like all the doom and gloom translates to is some people burning themselves out and being noisy about it. Once in a while they even have some good ideas, but unfortunately I've observed that to not be common. __

I literally just explained it to you. Apparently you'd rather play an irritably-obsessed conspiracy theorist than be reasonable. __ That's exactly what I don't want, though. We may have to agree to disagree, but I've seen other games like World of Tanks take a similar approach to crew and...it's just not good. It creates an even wider gap between the "haves" and the "have-nots", and very often just results in power creep and further imbalancing the game. If we were talking about an Elite Dangerous that had a well-established balance to start with and did not have Engineers, it's an idea I would carefully consider. But that's it.

I'm looking for in-lore game mechanics, ideally, not a trophy, and certainly not one from you... ;) :P It should mean something to be "Elite" in the game. Sure, some players don't really care for that sort of game. This is just a casual arcade space shooter for them to unwind after a long day of scamming the elderly, or whatever it is they do that drives them to this kind of mentality. (I'm intentionally joking here, by the way, just so no one takes me too seriously.) Anyway, I'm not one of those players. ... But yeah, thanks, for what it's worth. o7

I have the Elite rank now, and by the time I get back from my current expedition, I will have earned it the traditional way, and without neutron star field farming nor cherry picking ELW and the like. Too bad that's no longer really a thing reflected at all in the game though. "Imagination" only takes you so far. At some point you need a little substance to fuel the fire, or you burn out, or don't even bother in the first place. What can beige do for you?

Still an issue then... Well, can't say I didn't try. → https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/325167-Does-Frontier-intend-players-to-get-Elite-exploration-within-a-week That was back in January, by the way.

I don't agree in this instance. Releasing buggy code is a coders worst nightmare. What was done here was to satisfy Frontiers bottom line. Instead of getting the release done when it was ready they pushed out KNOWINGLY what would happen to many of us here and simply didnt care! That is why I am so upset. They simply don't care about people who have been with them since the Kickstarter days. Been there through the uncertainty and put our hard earned money behind them. So what we have access to Founders since day 1. Being a Founder is meaningless.

Just spent about 40 mins collecting the Classified Scan Databanks I needed from farming a tourist location. It's truly dull and vapid and I hope FD never sink so low for ideas for gameplay again as this stuff!

I proposed ship to ship docking about a year ago to allow basic functions to be done such as fuel/material/cargo transfer, as well as things like AMFU usage etc... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=238907 note: This would also offer variation in mission start/end points to. eg: Collecting an item/passenger from a ship.

4-ish pages worth of replies ahead, you were warned! I presumed that xbox gets bugfixes at the same time as PC, same as major updates, but you are likely right, thinking on it more; it could take longer for the Xbox team to sort the Xbox things out, which is downright unfortunate. At the same time, the Xbox issues right now seem to be different from the PC ones. Which isn't good, of course, but regarding the subject of unplayability, it's two separate things with PC and Xbox. And I do hope the fix comes soon for you Xbox-ers, cause from what I've seen in the bug report forums and so on, it's a real PITA! __

Story wise... why would CMDRs be trying to kill them all?

Oh, great, I can transfer the ship I'd normally use to fly out there myself or the beginner's multirole ship. For almost twice the cost of the actual ship itself in both cases. In other words, horribly pointless and not convenient in the slightest. Totally fine. And I'm totally not dripping with the thickest of sarcasm right now. It's not Big 3 ships I'm thinking about, it's the entire fleets of ships that players often have - one ship for every job, or just for vanity's sake. But with such restrictive transfer prices, it's not just a bad idea to move to colonia, it's counter-productive and actually wastes your time for nothing in the long run because you'll spend more time making the money back than you would have if you just moved each ship there yourself manually.

From what I understand you can only buy the lower range of ships out there.

Um, this isn't true. Container ships and semi-trucks get paid to deliver more in bulk. They usually, in fact, are paid *less* per-item because they can make so much more on simple bulk. They make enough profit to even cover trans-ocean distances and *still* have such low per-item prices that it's cheaper than just making the crap in your own country. It's why truckers are still paid mere pennies on the mile, despite how core that service is to modern American infrastructure, and it's why most producers sell everything in bulk and let distrubutors handle splitting things down into selling individual units (where they make their profit). On-demand entitlement culture has never been described so accurately. Pro-tip: ennui won't set in if you actually bother to take an interest in what you're doing instead of focusing on "CR/hour" like Elite is just getting Runescape fishing to 99 all over again.

Yep. Going to interesting to see what unfolds given the limitations of the engine. Ie: Multiple instances and limited gameplay depth/scenarios available.

I've spent the last couple of days looking for specifically Silicate Vapours on a small (~400km) body, looking for signs from the vid ThudPucker helpfully provided above. No joy, but I did find a couple of the tiny blue POI circles (just rocks). I'm just over half way up the Carina arm (on my way to Beagle Point) & they were the first POIs I've seen in probably 20kLys or more. If FDev make it easier to find these blasted things before I've managed to find one myself I'll be a little disappointed (in myself). It'd be nice to have some tools to make this task a bit easier, but the simple fact that they are definitely in the game & I just haven't found any gives me motivation to continue to explore. If it were easier I may have found more stuff but maybe my urge to explore would have faded. So I press on, raging against the night but somehow finding peace in the search. I WILL find one ;)

Not sure what your point is? I'd envisage the most important thing is to construct an environment which is conducive to good gameplay. Where it offers intesting varied PvP opportunities, with cause and effect. And where - if you choose to go down the path - psychotic behaviour has ramifications in keeping with such behaviour. The game is lacking in all these areas at the moment IMHO. PvP is hardly orchestrated and has precious little avenues for meaningful content and outcomes. And anything from illegal destruction through to complete toxic behaviour is all but ignore by the game due to shallow crime and punishment system. If you really don't think there's room for improvement with these areas, I'd be surprised...

Yes it does... Because supposedly The Pilots Federation has "a zero tolerance policy regarding dishonourable behaviour among its members..." As such, from a logical point of view, and indeed a less toxic game point of view, it would make sense if a CMDR behaved like a psycho, it didn't matter if they did it in system X or Y, their reputation with the The Pilots Federation would still be tarnished - https://goo.gl/s0wIe2
