It does indeed do the job fine... It just isn't suited to some aspects of what it's trying to achieve... ie: There's times/situations when an alternative approach would give more immediate, friendly and accurate information as regards what you need it for. eg: Approaching a station in SC. I'm sure a direct/camera view toggle would offer some benefits in some situations :)

Time. There's never enough of it, right? Everyone always rushing with the latest hot reddit exploit, modding their jump range to the maximums, jumping around without ever really caring about what they're passing by. What if we could save some of that time? First off, what is really taking up so much of our time when we play Elite?

If groups of hot spots could exist :) Imagine if some only existed in OPEN for PvP purposes?

Ideally it would be displayed somwhere still leaving the existing hologram in place, but I can't envisage where it would be displayed (ie: there's no obvious space?), hence it toggling with it instead. If it's feasible to actually show a "camera" representation instead of a hologram all the better... As again this could be nice for things like planets too...

I would love all of those additions. It's just what you prefaced it with that bugs me.... Like, speak for yourself - the only thing that kept away from Elite for 6 months, was when I was getting >10 FPS around landable planets and I had to sit and wait for the fix included with the Passengers release ....I honestly thought it was my fault at first, having a now-antiquidated graphics card; I was very surprised when support told me that it wasn't my end! And truthfully even then, sometimes I just slugged it out. I think it's fine to ask that these items be marked as "Urgent Priority". It's another to accuse Fdev of doing very little to keep players engaged. I'll even admit, I too don't really care about space legs or aliens. But I know other players will and do, and it might wind up being something I try in the future.

For me, for mining to really move forwards, there needs to be some stateful aspects added to it. eg: You can find rare resource hot spots (in rings or on surfaces) and these are stateful. As you mine them (and get high amounts of the resource in question) their percentage is reduced down until zero, at which time it's gone... This would make finding such locations worthwhile. Do you bookmark it for later, mine it ASAP, do it with friends or alone, or give the location to the Mining Rats who will then give you commission for the information? Etc... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=258294&page=8&p=4007154&viewfull=1#post4007154

I don't think it's acceptable to design it around the niche of multicrew and give *all other players* the short end of the stick.... Then again if I had designed SLFs? - No "glass cannon" approach; balanced and well-rounded would be my goal, with interesting, practical qualities between the SLF variants - Launchable Sidewinders and Eagles (especially Eagles, dangit), reworking hangar sizes if that really is the issue (maybe keep the new SLFs, and only they can be launched 2 at a time, whereas the Sidey/Eagle are too big to have more than 1 at a time?) - No magic new SLF-only weapons/variants - SLFs would have outfitting options just like any ship, only lacking the FSD and being quite limited in hardpoint/utility/optional slot count - Large-pad ships could use SLFs to land at and interact with outposts, like a shuttle - Mining equipment for SLFs

People don't get in trouble for font colors :) I suggested he not use bizarre colors. I even went out of my way to send him a screenshot of the outcome and demonstrate it causes people issues. Beyond that if he continues to go out of his way to post hard to read (annoying) text, me blocking him is the next sensible option IMHO... You can only do so much before giving up...

Yes, but underpinning all these suggestions is the requirement for core improvements to areas of the game. eg: More involved combat scenarios, mechanics and background sim depth. For example, take the premise of blockades. If that mechanic was implemented into the game, then it instantly lends itself to the back ground sim to use, Powerplay to use, CGs to use and alien invasions to use - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/347257-PROPOSAL-Station-Blockade-Mechanics-(version-2)-A-means-of-creating-interesting-PvE-PVP-gameplay-(generally-and-for-PP-and-CGs) And a more involved mechanic of convoy escort/assault between nav beacon A and B, and again, we then have a tool that can be re-used in many guises. But for the past two+ years these grass root imptovement's haven't been invested in, and it's coming back to bite FD now IMHO - ...

I suppose I ought to mention, too, that Emissive weapon mod special effects can raise target radar signatures, and there's also ones that increase target heat and would thereby raise radar signature, but to a lesser extent in comparison.

It's to do with the range of your sensors, the arc of your sensors (both of which can be modded), the heat signature of the ship you've targeted, and the potential use of heat sinks which temporarily remove your heat (and thus signature) for a few moments. Look here for more info: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/286628-Research-Detailed-Heat-Mechanics TL/DR version is that ship signatures are not equal - for instance, you can expect Diamondbacks to be tough to keep on sensors.

I'm sorry, *what*? Terrara is your good example? The 2-D Minecraft/Maplestory crossover? *THAT* is your idea of a 'good game' comparable to 'the way Elite should be'?

For solo PvE, it just gives you 2 options to choose from and more back-up units...and that's it, as things currently stand....

Agreed.... But now after two+ years we're getting a bit accustomed to the resultant path...? Braben enthusiastic feature speak ----> FD design ----> Result in game

Could be interesting... Maybe significant clouds could effect scanners? eg: I'd like to see dog fights in asteroids with scanners behaving as per CQC. ie: Asteroids block scanner detection.

Generally any use of font colouring has a negative outcome. eg: People posing orange text means for many they end up with orange text on a white background. Or worse still white text on a white background. Can't we remove it to help prevent people from unwisely using it?

I've even PM'd him with an image of how it looks for people on different forum styles (eg: orange on white)... If he keeps posting in orange I'll just block his posts as I can't read them and it's just an annoyance :( Note: He's just been suspended or banned! Didn't realise using orange was such a serious matter! :)

Please stop colouring your text! Many people are running on different forum (colour) styles. EG: Orange on white is painful to read. TBH, the feature should be removed for this very reason!

I'd have to agree... Along with the many other QoL improvements. I'd have to suggest that I'd have to ask for a bit of a refund for the damage The Engineers has most likely for ever done to the game though... :(

Thank you... With "dedicated tasks" such as knowing how well you are lined up with an station, then a "direct view" (the hologram generated as if you turned your head and looked at the object) would give you far more accurate and immediate information than the current HUD elements. That said, the current HUD display is appropriate/best the majority of the rest of the time. I'd envisage if you could flick to a new "direct view" then the hologram of the target would look different enough (eg: different style/colour/symbols/text) to immediately let you now you're in this alternative view. And it's interesting you use the term "camera view" because if possible it might be nice to kill two birds with one stone. eg: If in this alternative view your current target was displayed in place of the hologram as an actual camera view zoomed in, that might be quite nice. eg: Being able to see a far off planet to some degree instead of a "faceless" dot. The only problem I'd envisage though is how well you'd be...

You forgot Number 6: Being unable to interact with outposts, aside from being told to go away. My number one gripe about Large landing pad ships.

See, that's the funny thing...it takes a good game to get burnt out on it. I think persistance is a valid complaint about the game; the only two things I can think of that have any permanence in the game, are putting your name on unexplored stars and planets, and special descriptions on systems in the Galaxy Map view for player groups who've laid claim to that system. Everything else does have an air of...impermanence to it. I'd like to see player bases...being able to designate a station as a "Home" station (with any number of ideas of what a "Home" station could mean)...the means to create - and destroy - stations and outposts, without resorting to CGs and being hand-injected by Fdev...though that, I think, would have to rely heavily on first establishing a well-balanced version of combat, which...is going to take time. And an Engineer rework. As for Steel Division: Normandy 44, remember I mentioned not liking games that don't let me play at my own pace...? :P I dipped my toes into PvE...

I want 2 launchable NPC fighters as well. If that's overpowered, then rebalance/redesign fighters around the idea that you can potentially have 2 of them. I've never liked the "glass cannon" approach anyway.

Mileage does indeed vary. I usually cannot stand games that conclude too early or don't let me take my time. When I play Civilization games, I refuse to play anything other than Marathon. And if I only have time for a short game, there's solitaire, pinball, DOSBox, Hearthstone...or Elite, since I can just *play at my own pace* without feeling rushed or like I have to get a checkpoint first. It's quite convenient if you ask me.
