I am torn. Engineering vs Thargoids is likely to make it very difficult to balance the fights for all players and hence force Frontier to enact auto-leveling of the Thargoid AI difficulty. It would also just add a grind without adding gameplay that couldn't be better added by other things. If they do allow AX weapon engineering, it should only be under the conditions: - only to add secondary effects - only if the increase power is NOT RNG, but instead gives PREDICTABLE power increases. This is the ONLY way you could keep the fights vs Thargoids balanced.

Yeah but to be fair, the OP was asking for advice on a Corvette. The Cutter can slot an extra flak cannon and boost to 470+ so it's not quite the same thing. I've watched your videos with the Cutter and it's quite a bit different. Not necessarily easier, but the Cutter just has a different set of issues/benefits. Imo, the Anaconda might be the best of the three, if you can mod the engines and hull well enough.

Probably more likely, the two pilots tried to out run the Thargoid, and when the EMP hit them it acted like silent running on a ship at long range. Hence the Thargoid wasn't picking up any threats on it's radar and just left.

Pretty entertaining, yeah I'm not usually super impressed by isononas PVE FAOff videos either, but this one was PVP with fixed weapons + FAOff which is indeed quite impressive. Thermal may be the easiest fixed, but still he proved he can do it. Next up fixed MCs with FAOff. :D

Which really is a shame, as it renders industrial bases (almost) useless for outfitting a AX-fighter. As I mentioned in the other CG thread: Tiers above 3 are meaningless, because you want to have all possible equipment at hand. Tiers >3 would have limited this equipment to a base type no other special effects weapon is available -> pointless. With the recent CG not even reaching tier 3, the same is somehow true for the already achieved goals. Everything will be available at industrial bases - with the exception of the anti-pulse-thingy. It's a bit sad ... :(

The issue with those little rewards is that - if you don't get them - it feels like a punishment. Constant little rewards for continuos playing is a mechanic oftentimes used in free-to-play titles. It does work to keep players invested in the game ... but do we really want such an "artificial" (and potentially "cheap") incentive in ED? I am undecided (at the fringe of refusal).

Ed does in fact do live streams in PG with certain groups like Canonn or Elite Racers just to help instancing and avoid interference from griefers ;) But that's because there's something actually happening. A live stream of a CG just doesn't work in Solo/PG. CGs are already repetitive and uneventful enough when you're slogging through them in Open! Frankly, I'd rather watch a livestream of a DMV waiting room than a solo/PG CG livestream, where there is absolutely no chance of anything unexpected happening. Or just cut out the middle man and mix some ambien with whiskey and call it a night.

This. Additionally, the system is at the rim of the human bubble. In order to make a decent profit/ton (or get the required commodity at all), commanders have to fly to more distant stations (>60 LYs). This costs time and slows the progression. But the “CG burnout” definitely true for me personally, too. After approximately 3000 tons hauled, I just wanted to do something else (e.g. work towards my rank progress) - something that was possible as “by product” at the last AEGIS CGs, but isn’t this time.

No no no, Thargoids aren't responsible for those stations on fire! It actually was a failed communication attempt - their data transmitting communication lasers were adjusted just a little bit on the strong side! The Thargoid communication officer was disciplined accordingly and had to go to bed (comb?) without supper. Thargoids are fine people, really! Don't shoot them! (Nice finds, Cosmo, by the way!)

Bondrewd, you provide two interesting mechanics for "stone generation" on planets without atmosphere in your posts above. But aren't there at least two additional ones that would cause the "clustered distribution" of small and larger rocks you question: 1) What about thermic stress? Constant heating and cooling of rocks during day/night cycles and/or heating from one side (facing the sun) while the other side lies in ice cold shadows (there is no air to distribute heat) will eventually break bigger rocks and create smaller break-offs that will form scattered "nests". 2) Furthermore, secondary movements due to later impacts and tectonic events will "rearrange" existing distributions that initially might have looked like you explain in your OP. Both mechanisms might not be quick, but without other causes of erosion, those stones should have quite a bit of time at their disposal ...

My Corvette boosts to ~330 and I have zero issues getting 5+km from a Thargoid for a low wake egress. You just have to use their momentum against them, and fly smart. Btw, you can do the same thing in PVP to ditch someone who is marginally faster than you without high waking. You can't use 2 flak on a Corvette, so good aim is more critical taking out the Thargons. On the plus side it only takes a few shots from one flak cannon. On the minus side, my heart sniping aim is good but my ToT timing sucks. So I'm back to running out of missiles. Funny thing is, I think I was doing better without using flak cannons even with the AI/Thargon upgrade. They're time not spent killing hearts.

Ed's Revenge! Can't wait to see that live stream, should be good. Rubble... ship rubble everywhere. Adam Woods, very cool response: "what is fulfilling is... working in games". Nice. :)

The EMP isn't devastating if you give yourself breathing room before it goes off with a good boost + FAOff. The yellow lightning, corrosive bio-torp, or Thargon missile barrage are each way more deadly. But yeah if you get hit with an EMP from close range, and then whammy'd by any of these, youre gonna have a bad day.

That's an interesting take on the matter, and if true suggests the symptoms would be reversible. However, there are recordings of the sound, and frequency analysis shows it to extend into ultrasound ranges. So there is a physical real-world event tied to the etiology. The party that benefits from driving a wedge between the 2 countries, with technical expertise, and an espionage arm already in place, is obvious.

Slow down there whipper-snapper, we can barely contain a single Oresian scout ship, and you wanna go head 2 head with the Klaxian Armada? Let the story breathe a little. I'm sure we'll get there, but only after we've earned the ability to not be instantly vaporised. ;)

Odd, railgun videos have been appearing in my newsfeed as recommended articles too. The tech seems impressive, to be sure. Mach 7 projectiles, staggering penetration, small munitions size because no propellant, and of course greater safety an no cook-off.

Now that the US has unilaterally "decertified" the Iran deal in the complete absence of evidence, why would the North Koreans ever trust them? At this point, even a skeptic of war like me has to reconsider the probabilities. It seems more and more that US regime change is becoming necessary for global security.

If the ships were only cosmetically different from the existing ships then: hell yes. I'd definitely pay for cockpit customization. I really wanna remove that annoying pillar from the multicrew seats on the Corvette. It's an eyesore.

All the times where I said it was probably a bug, but such a cool one that these should be the high wakes we see left behind in game. ;)

Hmm, you could argue that Gimbals are artificial "skill" and gamey crutch as well. But I'm curious, what do you mean by "competent AI"? Sounds like you want to just shift the difficulty to dog-fighting tactics rather than aiming. But giving players Gimbals and making the Thargoids even more agile seems like a wash, and one that would make flying big ships against them infeasible. They've already increased their agility a smidge with the latest adaptation, and that alone is making targeting the hearts a serious challenge, with wobbly gimbals you'd need to be right on top of them to have a chance of hitting the hearts, just like with any module sniping. And sticking within 500m vs a high agility Cyclops is not something you can reliably do in a Corvette. Even my 536 m/s FDL struggles to keep that close. Maybe that kind of gameplay could work for smaller ships in the future though, if we ever see these little octagonal scout ships in action ;)
