On balance, probably space legs. I'd very much love atmospheric landings, but being able to move around as a person as opposed to a ship opens all sorts of game play options, and adds a deeper layer to the sense of presence in the game. Of course I would like both in time.

Been there. Way back when SMAC was based in Morrina, we won through a see saw series of wars only to have a CH dropped out of the blue, supporting the faction we just overcame. But within hours the Devs had responded to our post about it, and organised a counter CG for our faction. It's the sort of thing that can happen when there are many departments working in silos, but FDEV usual sort this stuff once they realise what has happened.

If this ship was sent out as an early warning system, then any others could be in any direction. I'd find it more likely that other such ships would not be in that area, but rather more directly spinward, trailward, rimward, upward, or downward. That however would be a truly vast search area. I would think finding other beacons and messages might be a better way forward.

Being able "in seconds" to nominate a better anarchy faction candidate is only possible through your extensive embedding in the area. It it takes a huge amount of time and detail sifting to come to an understanding of a region. I got VR recently and discovered a wealth of information about AEDC and wider Alliance systems in a half hour in the GalMap. But that's because I care about the systems. I've fought alongside my team for particular assets. I've attacked our enemies, investigated our neighbours, and visited our friends. But unless you devote time to bookmarks and lookups and chatting to others working the region, it's completely opaque from the GalMap.

I Probably wasn't clear. I'm not talking about player tools. I'm talking about tools for the Frontier loremasters. The PowerPlay map is an example of the public facing version of a thing I am imagining. Imagine like a proper loremaster. Like a DM/GM. Someone unconcerned by the details of the code, but who needs excellent tracking and visualization tools to be able to manage a responsive narrative based on what's really going on. Super granular detail when needed. Big picture overviews when needed. But it none of this would have to be developed to a bug-free, pretty, in-game, public facing thing.

The research out in the California Nebula is definitely dodgy. But it's not part of the current Palin /INRA projects. And it doesn't look like shipbuilding. I think that plot point has been shelved for the time being.

Yeah, but data visualization is the key. Databases are ugly and opaque and I wouldn't wish such a thing on Brett C and co. No im thinking more of the AEDC's influence tracker that outputs a graph. Ive seen map tools that show CMDR hot spots. Im thinking of GalMap filters that show minor factions. For example I can get a list from Facebook of: Jewish mothers of teenage boys who like bacon.

    Really? Those naughty Alliance CMDRs.

So uh, why should Sol be "of course" God-locked? Although I too would like some detail. My understanding of the rules of PMF injection, is that there had to be a faction of that Allegiance already in system. Either that rule was relaxed, or the dev at the coalface missed rejecting the application. Again, Frontier community managers need better Tech and Tools to parse requests and understand the BGS impacts.

I accidentally the whole thread. Passed out a lot of rep. There's a theme worth picking up here: Tech and Tools. Each of the major player groups have developed tools to record and analyze their strategic situation. I don't know that Frontier have done the same. If Brett or someone wanted a picture of what has been happening in an area, who was doing what and when- it would take a lot of effort to generate that picture.

You kind of don't play Battlecruiser, it kind of plays you! Now Give me an update to the original I-war and I will be as happy as larry! (And I don't mean the one with the leisure suit!)

I have my own method of calculating the standings and just ignore Fdev 2 points for every system 1 point for every favorable system -1 point for every unfavorable system My criteria simply is how far and how much a Power has spread his or her influence inline with their ethos. Population could easily be used in place of system count

Technically, anyone who has bought Horizons has access to the Engineers which a standard 'A' rated ship stands no chance against. But this is the time available issue. There are people who want to skip the lower ships so they can get in with the the thargoids etc, and the ability to buy the ship will give them access to that content. The main problem is that you'll have the same issue that we've got with quince, you've missed out on some of the more fun content, and to be honest, people who do that are really just cheating themselves. The run through the lower ships I found to be most interesting and rewarding when I did it on the x-box. For the bigger ships, I think the effort put in sometimes doesn't match the reward (or the feeling of satisfaction when you upgrade) once you upgrade, but that's a game balance issue. I would not be OK with people buying in-game credits with real-world money but maybe be open to people buying some models of ship but only E-Raters. Ship modules and Engineering upgrades...

So, in summary;- Squadron 42 isn't coming this year and if we're lucky we might get a video about it at Christmas. Alpha 3 has been delivered to a select few but they're leaking that there's a few problems with the release and there might not be a general release for CitizenCon Next week. If so then it's business as usual; I'll ignore it, even though I backed it, and wait until they produce something to play. I'm having too much fun dodging thargoids anyway. ;-)

Nope, nothing wrong with your Fruit Based Podcast App. However, most of the hosts (myself included), have been struck down with Man-Flu and been unable to put out the show, so far. Please bare with us while the Lemsip and Lucasade (an ancient scottish recipe that will cure anything) kicks in.

And don't forget to check out the Vehicle Combat System Rules. I hear they're quite good. :p

and if I was using my x52, then those are amateur numbers (Although I thought when someone said fly to the back of the station, I thought they meant fly to the back of the docking bay). Might have to do a quick Top Shift on it to prove it too. ;-)
