Oh sure. Doesn't make PvP an end game :) But those characteristics don't make it an end game. It make it the most complicated activity in ED and by a big margin from everything else. For you it might be the goal you set yourself, others have other goals.

With regard to the reason Bowie started Tin Machine, I'd say mission accomplished :)

PvP is not an end game. End games are restricted to max level in RPG MMOs. You can PvP minutes after buying the game.

Isn't Overlord of Erevate (was something like that right?) a better claim to fame? :) edit; and I hate little kids ... so ...

Exploring since 3300 and never needed a heatsink in exploration mode. 'Exploring' CZs, well, that was different :D

I'd like to see planetary or space bases of some rogue factions with a somewhat elaborate security mini-game. And when you crack the code, you get a chance of some extraordinary module or a generic "performance injector" for one of your modules. It would at least add some reward beyond scooping up elements and killing T-9's in outbreak systems. Downside: After half a year, it's not going to be special or rare anymore ;-)

Well done Forum Member. Just be a bit less certain will you? Doubt is good. It will make you reevaluate stuff. Ahhh, a feel good story at the end of a crappy day, thanks CMDR Space Head. :)

marx replied to a thread Earth Like Worlds in PlayStation 4
Do note that NASA's definition of Earth-like worlds is much less strict than Elite's. Since we can't distinguish between them (yet?), NASA's ELW basically means that it's a rocky planet inside the star's habitable zone. In Elite, that would cover anything that's classified as a terraforming candidate, including barren worlds. If real astronomers used Elite's definition for Earth-like worlds, we would have no idea how many there are. Or very wide guesses at best. But the Stellar Forge has no set values for which ELWs must be reached across the galaxy. Rather, planets that ended up generated under the right conditions (basically, a breathable atmosphere) become classified as Earth-like.

Well, yes. As jump ranges increase, so do the farthest systems out. Oevasy SG-Y d0 is actually a bit more difficult to reach than Beagle Point, as you have to use synthesised boosts to get there. But even so, if you follow an established route, it's as you say, trivial. At the core of it, exploration is not a matter of skill, but a test of patience, a matter of perseverance. Other than the - increasingly rare - times that you have to find a route for yourself, it is trivial. (Note: I say it's becoming more rare because people discover more of the galaxy, not because jump ranges at times get bigger.) You do realise that the designers decided not to have over-specialised ships. If we had those, then we'd only have to ships fit for exploration (as per their descriptions), the Asp Explorer and the Diamondback Explorer. Thing is, for a long time the only choices you had if you didn't want to go coreward were the Anaconda and the Asp. That's out of 34 ships. My point was that it's good that we have more...

I think I could live with the RNG if it were toned down. right now, L2 and L4 rolls are pointless due to overlaps, and the variations can be so darn huge that a bad roll can really be a wildly different pice of equipment to a good roll. I've found myself often getting 8 or 9 "bad" rolls on a row, this is where the sliders are below the "centre" of the range across the board. I rarely get multiple "good" rolls in a row. In many hundred of rolls, I've never gotten a "god roll" on anything bar a single L1 power plant - which is near pointless when your using it to just rank up. I've made this suggestion before, but if they tightened up the variation so that right at the top, the difference in sec was a maximum of 5% between the best and worst rolls (per slider - as a percentage of overall value), it would actually be reasonable, as even a really bad roll would not be too far below a really good roll. Its very random. That is a *huge* variation. Z...

Fair enough, but even if we pick mid pack racers on the same bike/team, they'll still have different set ups. I ride on track days myself, and I always was amazed at how wildly different the settings were for other rides with pretty much the same bike otherwise. But note, this was a choice, and when I tired their settings, it simply made me slower. I like my bike tight and twitchy, not everyone does, though. Point is, I enjoy messing with settings, and spending the time to get it right - as I've said before, to me, it's a skill, one I find valuable. Randomly adjusting settings does not lead to a good set up. My point is, and always has been, I am happy to do the work, but when I finish the work, I want my cookie - the whole cookie, not just randomly sized bits of it. Z...

They don't need to be. I've said it before - it you can adjust your own sliders, then modding a ship to suit *you* exactly would become a skill. Sure, some may copy your fit out, but, ultimately, unless their style is the same as mine, and they think like I do, it won't be as effective for them. Right now, there is no skill, it's just time and luck. Z...

Ah I see. I was in argument mode you see :) Very much agreed. The advantage that material for material exchange has is that the different materials are easier to compare in value, but it is indeed solving a symptom.

At 50g a piece I wouldn't blink an eye buying 100 materials which would amount to 5 million. What's an average cr/h rating you can do if you want to make money these days? Now think of the effort involved in gathering 100 pieces of a material. Do you see how the effort you need to put in gathering 100 materials is completely disproportionate to the price you will get for it?

I'm not disagreeing with your post, in fact I try to do as little engineering as possible so I won't have to spend 2 hours scanning wakes to get a couple of FSD roles to max out my range. When I get a roll I can live with I'm outta there. I'd be happy if a mechanic was introduced that for instance depended on what quality and quantity of materials you gather to determine the effectiveness of an upgrade. In that case the effort put in is on par with the result. As it is, someone can be rolling for days and get the same result as someone who rolls once and got lucky. But I'm also not seeing how your post covers mine off :) It's true that if you remove the source of displeasure, the issue goes away. But if engineers will be engineers, and the argument is made for material trading then my point remains.
