    I think you're missing the gist entirely. I'm not making a simple IDS vs ADS argument. I am saying that the best scanner mechanic would be a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT one with infinite discovery range (for sufficiently bright objects) that was manually operated and gave a level of details based on: 1) distance (physical angular resolution limits) 2) quality of equipment (speed and size based angular resolution limits) 3) skill - the ability to focus machinery like a camera and pick the optimal frequency ranges to match the signal emitted by a particular object This scanner should also work on any stars that were visible in your local sky.

    I'm not really sure there's a solution to most of this - there's still nothing to stop someone joining your crew and sitting there doing nothing, instead of helping. There's not much can be done other than 'be careful who you let on your ship'. Would it be better on Mobius, or another such PG?

    Well lets be fair. Combat mechanics of PVP have received probably the most attention of any aspect of the game to date. They've gotten the lion's share of the patch notes for every major release. That being said, yes the actual reasons and theatres for PVP activity are exceedingly shallow, and virtually invisible. Thus far, (apart from Salome) PVP events have been almost entirely of the community's making. I would love to see real ship tracking mechanics for hunting down wanted/notorious players, less buggy instancing, consequences for clogging, and community law enforcement mechanics to keep malcontents in line and living in the shadows rather than dominating the scene. Also perhaps some kind of galaxy's most wanted list, and galaxy's hottest bounty hunters too. If they combine this with a more rich and varied Power Play that actually had human incentives in mind, and/or created a BGS sim were people could align to minor factions to fight off super powers, go to war with each other, and just...

    I think you're seeing a reasonably well-known cargo duplication bug when sharing an instance. Also - as far as I know: no the unknown ship won't go nuts at you for having Guardian tech. In all the hyperdiction and unknown site visits events people have generated I'm sure there have been other CMDRs with Guardian tech who've had the exact same, non-destructive, contact :)

    Pretty much, but I would go one step further. The act of honking and point and wait mechanics are more like eating flavorless styrofoam packing popcorn. What's really sad is that the absence of any interactive gameplay where greater depth of exploration = greater CR rewards, people have been conditioned by object-based reward values to think of some systems as being amazing and more valuable and others. When in truth, some low value tiny mass "500 CR" iceballs are among the most beautiful and fascinating back drops for Exploration. But currently there is nothing to do once you get there except collect a 500 CR paycheck, snap some picks, and move on. But... Imagine a game were ice balls were as interactive as a Haz Res for a miner or a trade CG filled with blood thirsty bounty hunters for a pirate. Where the rewards in CR per hour extended to match the more in depth gameplay, so no one felt they were short changing themselves by sticking to any system they choose to spend extra time in. And...

    It does seem a bit twitchy alright. You can counter it by reducing the pips to Engines, or else turning off Drive Assist. That makes the acceleration more gradual (but with the side-effect that if you kill the throttle you don't brake, you just decelerate gently to a halt).

    Someone was reading between the lions, and found a Panther. Not sure how much ED detail we're really going to see at this event. Much of the 2.4 content is 'secret', the subsequent releases are core fixes/changes that I'd imagine will evolve over time. It could be a long way off before we see any if the big, headline features we want (visiting atmospheric planets & gas giants, exploring our ships, EVA, and surface first-person gameplay etc..etc..)
