My favorite quote from the article: This is a prime example of why David Braben is my favorite human being in software development. He is using his platform not just to entertain, but to expand the minds of people who already have a passion for space. The intuitive understanding about the structure and size of the galaxy that almost all Elite players have is heads and shoulders above what the average Astrophysics undergrad knew with the internet of 20 years ago. And for anyone who is interested, here are Maxwell's Equations: ^^^ These are a cornerstone of classical physics and modern engineering that made everything we know today possible. I think my favorite result of which was a prediction of the speed of light as being determined by the speed of propagation of the electromagnetic field.

The race is now into its third day and both leaderboards are filling up nicely and several CMDRs have submitted multiple entries improving on their times. More are out on the course racing and trying to get a time they feel is worthy of submission. Times are getting tight already and there have also been a few docking mishaps, although an alarming (for flight control) new technique is finding favour amongst some competitors of using the walls of the airlock to slow down upon approach. So far this has not resulted in anything more than a few scratches to the station entrance but it is a technique to watch - how helpful might it yet prove? . The Adder Special class continues to attract first-time Buckyballers with its appeal of a cheap ship on a short course - and everyone seems to be having fun and gaining an appreciation for the Adder and a few tricks about fast supercruise approaches. CMDR Kietrax got his run in just too late for yesterday's leaderboard update but he slips The Black Pimple neatly into...

You are correct - in the book its an M2V star but at 5511k Syreadiae JX-F C0 is a G type, and the book has an ELW for the second planet but in game ithe first planet is terraformable while the second is neither an ELW nor terraformable. But if you assume it's not a discrepancy then how did the Zurara get to its eventual resting place with the power gone and the crew dead....so applying occam's razor I think it's far more likely to be a discrepancy.

How many Thargoids does it take to read a book? Do you each read it and then pass it onto the next tharg, or each take a page, read it then share the knowledge via the hive mind? The latter must make it difficult-you'd need a lot of spoilers. :D

We never left! ;) We just hid behind our invisibility beacons so you couldn't see us!

Groan! :D But it's looking to me like The Club is an aspect of the true Dark Wheel Don't think we're going to be able to prevent a xeno war. We might be able to befriend/ally with the Oresrians (this time) and just fight the Klaxians with the assistance of Oresrian technology exchange, or else we fight (with reverse engineered old tech left over from the war) the Oresrians and the Klaxians! First thing we'll need is a Goid IFF to distinguish the two! and while you're talking about "the truth is there for all to see"- I'm pondering about the beacons deployed (but we've never found any) in the FRift etc at ELW, and wondering if they were not beacons but masking technology to prevent those planets showing up on ship scanners in order to hide them from any pursuing/exploring goids. Have we ever had any suggestion of any such technology in Galnet etc? edit: don't suppose anyone had the presence of mind to do an eyeball search in Zurara system for undetectable planets?

Here are two that I found during the field trials for my new Federal Corvette, the Pierre Aronnax. I'm planning a very long trip in this ship so these are likely to be my last for some time, unless I stop at an asteroid base / Colonia and sell some data during the expedition. The one in Slegeae also has an Ammonia World in the same system (planet 6). Stats for the moon of the one in Plaa Thua are included in the album. System name Planet ID Dist. from Sol (ly) First discovered by

No, the mission was a distraction. I enjoyed it, thought it was a good read and it put things into context; nearest thing to a discussion thread is the FRift thread.

According to Premonition the whole Guardians thing was just a distraction from something else that The Club didn't want Canonn to investigate!

A quick PSA this morning: for any pilots who may be accumulating fines, there is an Interstellar Factor available at Bushkov Dock. To those who may not be familiar with these, you can find them under the 'Contacts' tab of the station services menu and they can allow you to pay off all your fines as well as claim bounty vouchers, although they take a 25% cut on both. It can be better than risking a scan by the authorities, or taking a long trip to claim a bounty, though. . Some impressive times have been received overnight! I still want to keep to one board update a day but for now I'll let it slip that there are four CMDRs in total who have managed sub ten-minute times in Unlimited - all in different ships! Fly fast!

It isn't just the system bodies that I was wondering about. For some reason Peregrina sticks in my memory, which is sufficiently unusual in itself to pose a question mark. Just wondering if it had cropped up in any CGs etc-perhaps storyline clues we'd missed? edit: one too many brandies last night-need some assistance thinking until second/third coffee kick in!

There are two approaches I take with the PP on an exploration vessel: 1) Take the lightest PP that meets the ship's power requirements 2) If the power requirements are easily met by the lowest class A-rated PP (as often happens with 2A PP on small ships), then reroll grade 1 shielded until achieving a result that improves heat efficiency as well. If power requirements are very slightly short, then rerolling grade 1 shielded until a power capacity bonus occurs is also an option. . In case 2), it is also possible, albeit rare, to have a reduced mass from a secondary effect. I have yet to get a roll that improves heat efficiency and power capacity whilst also reducing mass, though - I have several power plants on small ships with two of those three. . I find that for larger exploration ships, I need to overcharge a downsized PP for best results. How much overcharge depends on what other equipment the ship needs to run with. My Python currently runs grade 2 overcharged, whilst my Anaconda uses grade 3 and...

I'm just re-reading Out Of The Darkness and finding the details are familiar against recent in-game reveals: two Thargoid species in a war etc. Has anyone investigated Peregrina system? I remember it being mentioned in Galnet as having a station affected by UAs. In the book Oresrians built a base there on the gas giant "Eurynomus", and there's also mention of a moon "Undine". Just wondering how far FD implemented the story.
