    The trouble is death is trivialised, so people think dying over and over is OK. Consequently they need money to fund this, and find that it takes longer to get and complain its too time sensitive. People are impatient. Elite is a classic drip fed game from the 80s where it took a long time to get anywhere. Transpose that into todays 'everything now' mentality and you get what you see happening. People complain that money is too hard to get. So you have Elites core pillar of its existence come under attack from people who want the best toys as quickly as possible. Most activities like exploring don't need huge amounts of engineering. FSD range yes, but the rest is fluff. ED *was* about simply making a living in a dystopian galaxy. Fuel was expensive, trade was risky. I went bankrupt in 1.0 and in desperation took on missions to make ends meet.     Yes, absolutely. CGs are obsolete mechanic and just a PvP/Gankfest honeypot in Open. But even if I wanted (for some wicked reason) to participate in a CG, Open would be the last place I'd look. Other Players are of zero benefit and rebuys or Repair costs have never contributed to a CG so far. Galaxy felt pretty dead in the thousands of hours I've been in Open and (not surprisingly) it's no different in other Modes. Seeing a few funny names is okay. But it is worth hundreds of Millions in Rebuys? Hardly. All the last times I've sent just a basic "o7" to other CMDRs in Open, I didn't even get a reply. Not even when docked at Jamesons with a dozen others. And even if, what's the point? I'm a lonely CMDR, so I don't have nor need any Allies. Not interested in jousting Meta fights or "challenges" (as in : how long can my Mining Type-9 survive against a Meta Corvette Gank?). Now... if ELITE was an actual MMO with everything belonging to it and done right... Then things would likely be different. Very...

    For the people wondering how their ship could sustain damage even with "low speed" realize your ship is MASSIVE, which means even a slow impact carries a huge amount of energy. Eg, Even an impact at 5m/s of a 2000 T space ship is like getting hit with 25 MJ (KE = 1/2mV^2) of absolute hull damage to your unmodded integrity. Why unmodded? In Elite the game doesn't seems to care how much hull you have when colliding with immovable objects. Hence the game seems to model these collisions as inelastic, which means that all of the energy is converted into deformation of the ship's core frame. This is different from two colliding ships where both objects are movable and of somewhat comparable mass. For the people wondering why their gear isn't buffering the impact, realize that if your gear isn't lined up with the terrain, then you're potentially damaging your landing gear / impinged hull. It would be like jumping into the air, flopping like a fish, landing with your legs at a funny angle, and wondering...

    It would be easy to get something like that in game quickly- and doable with missions. Example: Faction offers a rally race of sorts: you have to fly as fast as possible to nav points, scan them and move on to a destination. You get a time to beat and if you do you 'win' the prize. You could do huge variations in them: drug running as fast as possible, 'Buckyball' lite races, race sabotage (blow up racer in an anarchy system to fix a race for shady gangsters), and so on.

    I get a distinct feeling that Wing Missions will be so difficult that doing them alone would be borderline suicidal. I would expect the influence effect to match up with that.

    As Baba Ghannoush said, once it's kitted out it's wonderful bloaty fun with a great view. I never fail to giggle when I get told by ATC to get out of the way of large craft when an NPC eagle bounces off my shields.

    So more puzzles this week: Archons jump of + 3 could be down to him having an expansion attempt while everyone near him does not: but, why did Winters drop when she won an expansion, and ALD did not (who has an expansion attempt this week?) From this I can only guess that the weekly standings seem to take into account what your opponents are doing too. So, with Archon his nearest opponents either side are static so he jumps up massively, while at the top Winters and ALD jostle, while Mahons system number keeps him afloat at 1.

    IKR. I avoided getting one for a very long time, because of the bad press they get. Eventually picked one up to do a CG. I was very pleasantly surprised. More maneuverable than a Beluga and doesn't have a problem with heat. Perfect cockpit for a big ship. Was a pleasure to fly :)

    Transfer of starport facilities and installations occur through conflict, that being civil war, elections or war. Equalizing your faction's influence with another faction in possession of real estate will lock the two into a conflict. Both factions put forth their most valuable piece of real estate, if possible, onto the stake which the winner of the conflict takes. This is the long way, but ensures your faction will have fallbacks if they lose their biggest starport, usually the system's main starport. AFAIK, to expand into another system you need the main starport. If you reach expansion levels of influence, but are not in control of the system's main starport, a very lopsided conflict occurs with the main starport owner. It's sometimes called a coup. A faction already controlling the main starport cannot start wars with lesser factions this way, they'll move towards starting an expansion instead.
