Well, let's put things in perspective a bit. Elite: Dangerous released on Dec 16, 2014 - that's just over two years ago. In that short amount of time we got a lot of updates, including landable planets; for some perspective, on threads speculating what season 2 might be, a lot of players were openly saying that planet landing is just too massive of a feature and they never believed this would happen until at least 3-4 years down the road! If we compare the state of the game then to what it is now, even if...

I've done 6 months, 12k systems on DWE and got some 270 mil or so (or was it 240? I'm too lazy to check atm :D), if memory serves, and I don't exactly scan every rock - I always scan primaries, HMC's that seem to be in the habitable zone and are potentially TC's, all WW's and ELW's, gas giants only if they're close when I've jumped in or if I think they might be water / helium giants. I also grab anything that's in scanning range right after I've jumped in. But ice balls, rocky ice, hmc's and gg's way out...

You have a point in that his genre does not exactly attract the mainstream audience, but I wouldn't understimate the financial potential of it; just look at the ridiculous amounts of money people were, and are still willing to throw at Star Citizen just for a chance at getting a good entry in the genre. The thing is, the technology to really do this genre justice has just really recently become available, and doing it all is quite labor intensive, but on the up side there is a lot less competition than if...

While I'm certain Elite is a labor of love for Braben and at least some of the development team, don't make the mistake of thinking it's more of a pet project than a business, because it's not; latest figures I've heard suggested they're actually doing quite well financially, which is really good because there is absolutely no way this game would continue being developed, or even kept live on servers, without it being profitable; maintaining an online game that doesn't generate profit would just be too...

Telepresence was necessary in order to make multi-crew accessible and not clunky or even impossible to use when out exploring (the irony of this is, had they done this the other way, there would likely be explorers complaining that this is yet another feature they can't use). This is one instance where gameplay has to take priority over immersion, and frankly, parts of this community haven't painted themselves in a good light by going on a whine fest about an update that isn't even in beta yet, just...
