So David Braben says one thing to the stock exchange and a YouTuber who doesn't even work for the company says a different thing on an internet forum. Absolutely got it! :-)

You misread it. He didn't say sold. Braben dropped the word "sold" from his ED numbers a while back. That way he gets to big up the number by including the 250K+ Arena copies he gave out free on Steam and in Xbox bundles. Let's see the numbers to back up that claim. Until then, 2.75m genuine franchise units total is completely covered by the 1.1m-1.5m known game sales, plus average one Horizons/decal/book/whatever per player. And the significance of that is almost all ED franchise's sales since 2016 have been low-value cosmetics DLC etc. with actual game sales down to the trickle seen on the Steam graph.

Yes. That's what "franchise" means. Plus it includes the ED franchise stuff FD licenced out to other companies such as books, 3D ship models etc. Anything else would have been hiding sales from the stockmarket, which is seriously not kosher, especially with so many FD managers/directors trading private shares recently. Yes. That's why Steam shows so few game sales and FD accounts show so few $$$. A lot of those unit sales are paint jobs and $1 cosmetics bought on the dozens by ED hard-core fans.

OK, clear. The only numbers evidence we've got says 1.1m to 1.5m base game sales. That's 1.1m from Steam, plus whatever of the Frontier store 400K-odd were not registered on Steam, plus 8000 PS4 and 1000 Xbox from the UK retail charts. There are definitely console download sales to add, but we don't know how many.

Where the evidence that base game sales is as high as that? The Steam figure is owners not sales and yes it does cover steam keys. Explained here. http://steamspy.com/about

So they claimed... after having priced it at 20 on Kickstarter. They never mentioned DLC. No idea how you worked that out. For the biggest chunk of sales for which we have figures, FD earned only about 6.50 per copy after Steam 30% cut and taxes etc.

Anyone trying to make a case that a unit produced and sold under the franchise (whether cosmetic or not) is not a "franchise unit" is simply being dishonest. Not to mention unconvincing. Would Frontier really have needlessly and inaccurately underreported the franchise unit quantity to shareholders by secretly excluding cosmetics?? Of course not. Frontier has already said there ain't going to be a season 3.0. Look at the fact that only a tiny proportion of ED buyers bought-in to season 2.0 and you'll understand why.

Perhaps reread what you wrote? "So they would be very comfortably above base scenario." That base scenario goes to Year ending 2017. Not 2018. Sorry, but that link to a backers number that is six times what Frontier declared is just a link to someone's imagination. If you dispute that, show a screenshot.

Perhaps try reading the reports I linked with more care? None suggest this faking comes from leaving the machine always on. They show just leaving the machine on until end of day is enough for ED to fake the play time and player quantity by 10x. Well done for funding Planet Coaster.

You'd lose. 75,019 is not 200 - 300K. And that's even before the fact that figure is fake. Your imaginative inflation to 150,000 likewise falls short. Elite Dangerous's faking of the Steam player stats is widely known, e.g. "I have played elite about 1 hour (from steam) BUT steam show that my playtime is 91h" source.

We're talking about Horizons and Frontier never said Horizons would be a multi-year project. They sold it as a 'season' strongly implying it would be delivered inside one year. It is now approaching two years and Frontier will hasn't said when they'll deliver the finished goods.

Those numbers sounds like complete fan fiction to me. I will bet you have no evidence to back it.

No it doesn't. The financial year in the Frontier projection that Jools quoted is explicitly stated as "Year ending 31 May 2017". No it didn't. Frontier discontinued the backers tracker six months before launch. And at launch Frontier announced a backers number once sixth of the number you claim. For Xbox, the Xbox store https://marketplace.xbox.com

I'm not surprised Sony didn't expect good sales. Sony marketing completely ignored it. Two weeks earlier they ran an E3 showcase of 50 upcoming PS titles. No mention of ED. Microsoft was the same on ED's Xbox version. They did announce it once during development, but after seeing it, they never showed footage at their promo events or even put out a press release. But it would be surprising if Frontier had expected such low sales. They wouldn't have spent the money to develop and publish the port if they had foreseen it would sell only a handful of copies, get bad reviews like the 6/10 in Official Playstation Magazine and then have to have its price dropped to shift it. I'm sad they didn't make the forthcoming gameplay fixups before the PS4 release. There are no second chances on consoles.

I think when our ships can fly we should meet and work together, for the betterment of the Empire and of course our holdings.
