    What is the fundamental underlying issue people are having with purchasing ships? I'm still trying to determine a factual game breaking reason why. I can't find one. Nobody has presented any evidence that it would destroy the game. What it does is identify the underlying issue which is not the sale of ships but some people's perceptions of what OTHER people buying ships would be and their consequences. This is a legitimate argument. We basically have people admitting they'll ragequit because other people spent money on a ship to fly around a galaxy where you rarely bump into anyone else unless you want to. Where you'd still get your butt kicked because your ship isn't engineered for combat and will still take another 50 hours to get it kitted the way you like. Then you need to spend even more time learning your ins and outs of your new ship. You may not even like it and LOSE MONEY! 1) I was against ship buying. 2) Now I am not and it DOES WORK on other platforms without harming the game at...

    How would working for earned REAL MONEY so I an enjoy a ship without spending 50 hours gameplay doing mundane repetitive stuff? Then I can do it again to engineer the ship again. This game is NOT about ships. Its about doing whatever you want, trading, mining, fighting, participating in CG's, exploring whatever I want. Spending my money on what I want is something I can do, and quite frankly you don't have a say in it. That is the underlying issue here. Its a psychology of people not wanting other people to have fun. You can't have free ice cream!! lol You guys don't even want someone else to PAY for the ice cream!

    This is ok - many of you would not purchase ships. Let me ask you this then. Would you stop playing the game if FD sold ships that also could be earned by credits - but included kits / cosmetics with it? So you would stop playing the game simply because other people would be able to buy nice looking ships that still would require engineering etc. You would be against what other people are spending their money on?

    Pure speculation. People play the game for a wide variety of reasons. Since the game is pretty meaningless without a point, a content end or end of stories, end of battles... it can be fun for many people just flying around in a ship, doing whatever they want. I would spend money buying a custom ship but I 'd still need to grind to get the materials to engineer it. I'd still need to earn money. I'd still need to FLY IT to do the fun things in the game. So you are trying to say the GOAL and the WIN of the game is to grind your way to ships?

    How would a choice of buying or earning a ship "being forced"? When there are also a selection of other similar ships? If we see 100 ships in the game who cares. ^This... buying a ship is not paying to win. Even then - if I were "winning" solo in the privacy of my own home enjoying the game - why would others care about that? What this is all about is people wanting to control other people's experiences. All I want is a choice...

    DBrn47 good arguments. But the "greater good" angle for the gaming industry doesn't fly with me now. Like I said - I HATED microtransactions and I hate how DLC is released the same day the game is released. I HATE how I can't just buy software anymore, everything requires a monthly payment. I'd LOVE to reverse the entire trend but it just won't happen. It wasn't until recently when I purchased a ship from World of Warships that I thought to myself... this actually works. It was a good experience, it didn't hurt anyone, and I was able to give them money. I had played for a month or two without giving them a cent already. I could continue to rank up but for nostaglia and fun (since it was a historic ship) I bought one as a form of payment. I enjoyed it and IT COMPLETELY CHANGED MY OPINION of buying ships. Like I said about 2 weeks ago I would have never thought about posting this. But the buying certain types of custom ships CAN WORK in this game. I now it and I'd be more than willing to...

    To the OP no - it never turned out like I wanted. Not enough variation like an MMO on items. I'd like to shop at a station and have a chance at finding engineered parts with percentages and upgrades. Like if someone sells an engineered part they don't want anymore it should go into a pool to turn up at a station somewhere else for sale.

    So this is not about you... getting in any way inconvenienced at all or hurt by others buying ships? The actual purchase of the ships would only bother people because someone else bought them. See you guys are making my point entirely. This could be done entirely. The only people complaining cannot come up with an actual argument against why it would break the game or impact OTHER players. Generally when you have no argument most people will let go of the facts and just attack the person instead instead of the issue. This is exactly what happened here. The argument is won on a pure moral standpoint. I'll be willing to revisit the topic once someone offers up some legitimate reasons why it would negatively impact the people who refuse or generally opt out of paying and wishing to grind to get their ships.     Case and point. What are they winning? How is their winning affecting you if it does not affect PVP? This is all about other people trying to force what they want on others. This is the point of the whole thread. I knew it would boil down to the psychology of it. I've been against pay to win but that is only in competitive games such as first person shooters etc. Even then - is there some sort of competition between people to see who can get more credits than other people? Why would you care if someone else was flying an anaconda? You won't be able to buy federal ships unless you have the rank. It literally makes no sense why others would care if someone else gets another ship. That is exactly what this is boiling down to. This is like Johnny down the street's parents buying him a new bike. Jack says "hey thats no fair he has a new bike he didn't earn it". Meanwhile you both are still friends and ride bikes around the town. This is literally just boiling down to communism.     I could see a form of thargoid trading starting like this ... We find out what they want and need. Encounter them... jettison what they need. See how they react. If they take it into their cargo hold maybe they'll eject something in return for you. Enough of these "trades" maybe certain spots will be hotspots for trade with the thargoids. Manual trade but hey it would be the start of a relationship.

    Actual simulator like X-Plane have 3rd party people who design ultra detailed planes/jets to use. People pay $50 or more for these planes because of the effort and work put into them. Lets just say the refuse to make the panther clipper. But we all go in and say "we'll all pay you x amount" if you make the ship (crowd sourced). FD hires an outside company to make the model and animations approve it, tweak the stats and plug it into their system. Then put it up for sale, people get what they want, FD didn't need to do it and both parties collect the money. Devs get money, designers get money and people who wanted the ship get money. So WHO IS THE VICTIM HERE? Is this space capitalism or space communism?

    I'm pretty sure that if they ever did decide to sell ships once they saw their monthly revenue, they wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep at night at all the people who said they wouldn't buy ships and don't want it. Because ultimately people who want to buy them are getting them, adn they are getting the money. That is 2 positive things. One negative would be the people who don't want to buy t hem won't buy them. If they don't want to play anymore it doesn't matter either because they are not buying anything. I'm also 100% positive you'd all get over it and continue to play and not be so concerned about whether another person can spend their OWN MONEY HOWEVER THEY WANT.

    Big difference in features and gameplay between SC and ED. What they are trying to pull off FD wouldn't have pulled off in 5 years either with the same money. But building ships does not take that long when you simply plug them into your engine. Nowhere near as complex as a full game. It takes time yes but it would recoop costs and possible even increase their monthly revenue significantly enough to focus artists on ships to sell.

    Big difference between making a ship (art) and space legs. Making ships is a long tedious effort without a doubt and takes a lot of 3d talent. But it isn't anywhere near as complex as space legs would be. Making ships is just line the artists up and let them go. There would definitely be a market for it - and with the additional regular revenue it would afford the staff to increase working on newer ships, modify existing ships etc.

    I've been looking at the 1080's actually. I've had an I7 since they came out on a military grade board that supports SLI. So I just need a vid card. Thing is they are like $500 and in Canada the vive is another $1000!

    To clear the air - I have donated $20 to Star Citizen. I don't play it and I don't buy any ships. I think its crazy to buy ships for $1000 etc. That being said - they made a crap ton of money and they made a lot of nice ships that i'd love to see in ED. Why wouldn't you support the development and addition of 20-30 new ships? With the additional income it could increase the pace of development and fun for US the people who want to play the game. I absolutely am not saying I want pay to win because that is NOT what this is. I found several games where this format DOES WORK. I was always dead set against micro transactions from day one. But recently my experience has showed me that you know what - it CAN WORK. It DOES work in some instances. Can it be possible to work for ED?
