What Danubezoe said. The Palin Meta-Alloy CG went belly-up because it was the first time FD had done a "sell commodity" CG where the commodities couldn't be purchased off the market, and they completely booched the numbers. FD have also booched it the other way before, making CGs that finished way too quickly, during which they tweaked up the numbers to give more tiers or higher goals. FD have control over this, and they've done a poor job of this one. I've never said Explosives shouldn't be part of the CG goal. You are absolutely correct that it makes sense. What *doesn't* make sense is that the CG whose primary description is to seek Thargoid is best satisfied by.... not shipping Thargoid items.

I've seen that too... day one there's usually only one CZ in the whole system :/

Honestly, that would "check out"... I recently lost a war, and that's the only time I've seen missions generate, and I have vague recollections of another war I nearly lost, and on the day we dipped under we saw missions appear. I think you might be onto something there.

Nope. They do vary in price a small amount, but only like normal commodities. They're worth 200-300k each depending on the item to sell so great for money, but poor for CG contribution considering how difficult they are to collect/ship.

This isn't about money at all, and I'm going to come out right now and say without doubt shipping 1t of thargoid materials won't do anything of the sort like you suggest. There's simply no precedent, again, it's just appealing to the gods which is an unarguable point. The CG could pay out no individual credit rewards, and all contributions are donations with no reward, and then you'd only get people participating who want the CG to succeed. The best way to do this would still with plain old commodities from markets and not touching the Thargoid mats.

No arguments here. Not really relevant. Instead of market-available goods, they could've asked for Unknown Artefacts/Probes. Both of these are available without Horizons and offer the same logistical challenges as US materials. No arguments here, except they should've done it as two separate CGs then divided by the type of goods, or as MadDogMurdock suggested, make the CG require particular amounts of each type. Only one thing matters here. Total volume of target goods shipped. So of course people will pick the thing they can ship in thousands-of-tonnes an hour volumes over the 50t an hour variant, because the former helps the CG much more than the latter. Which is dumb considering the focus of the CG is on the latter goods. If your goal is for the CG to succeed as good as possible, there is literally no reason to ship the Thargoid materials.

Yes. The CG for that was to haul Meta-alloys. As these are as time-consuming to get as the Thargoid materials for this CG, but FD set the goal levels for a "typical" trade CG where you would typically haul hundreds of tonnes of goods every few minutes, we didn't get very far... plus the entire event was a logoff/logon-fest, because barnacle sites only spawned 2 meta alloys at a time. It feels like they've "thought of that" this time round by introducing the standard market commodities as relevant to the CG, but all that's done is made it pointless from a contribution-perspective. Some players shipping explosives are already at 12,000t shipped, and yet the CGs have only just past tier 1. This is fine, day 1 and all of the CG, but considering you might get close to 500t of the Thargoid materials shipped if you spent an entire day collecting them, you can see how pointless that contribution will be to the overall success of the CG. From what I can tell... the global rewards are the availability of the...

Oh don't worry, I had my eye on this during the Beta, I didn't really see this situation change. But I agree holding off a week might be an idea.

So I've just done a quick circuit and while I can't speak for Elections on this one, it looks like Civil War might work fine, but War is pretty busted. But again, I'm not sure how.... So, here's the boards for two factions in civil war. This is fine, and how things should look all the time in these states IMO. Meanwhile there's two multi-system factions at war, Callici Empire League and Xelardi Silver Corp

Oh yes, that too :) I want to make it clear... having the requirement to ship things like the explosives, computer components etc. *is* fine... but with the way these CGs are set up it completely diminishes the effectiveness of delivering Thargoid materials in terms of contributions to the CG. EDIT: In lieu of that actually being something FD can do in the game, that's why I suggested the two CGs split down the line of one CG for bulk, market-available goods, and the other for *only* thargoid materials. It's not really about what other people are doing; it's that the setup of the CG completely devalues the contribution of people shipping the CG's namesake materials.

But this continues to be my point... why have a CG literally titled "Engineer request for Thargoid Materials" when the design of the CG (both of which are already "successful") means the most meaningful way to contribute to the CG is via market-purchasable goods which can be brought in at ridiulously higher volumes? It's a really dumb combination of goods to have in a CG. When I got this CG put up a while back, I thought long and hard about the types of goods being shipped, the "roleplay" story aspect and the way commanders might go about it. It's not listed on that article but the goods in question were: Nerve Agents - Hard to find, but very high profit margins. Battle Weapons, Personal Weapons - Relatively abundant and good profit margins, but likely to go out of stock. Pesticides, Hydrogen Fuel - Very easy to find, but poor profit margins. This might not sound too different, except when you think about the markets these goods were available at and how players would interact with the CG. The...

So... this harkens back to a concern I have about conflict states and missions in general. I think the generation of conflict state missions is absolutely bugged... but I don't know how to prove it. My faction is in something like 11 systems and we've had multiple wars getting there. I have rarely, if ever, seen Massacre missions when my faction has been at war. The *only* time I've seen them, they've been in different systems to the conflict, and even then they aren't consistently in the same system. Usually there's missions for my faction typical of a "none" state. You can tell the conflict missions aren't generating because the wording on them isn't right. "data deliveries" in war states are "Strategic Data Delivery" or somesuch, while "delivery" missions become "Wartime Delivery" missions. This wording simply isn't there. But guarantee, if a faction is only present in one system, there'll be conflict missions there for them if they're in conflict. Maybe I'll put some more effort into...

That's kinda my point. I already did that and made my millions when the US first dropped in game, didn't need a CG to do that... I just would've thought the delivery of Thargoid materials to a CG entitled "Engineer Appeal for Thargoid Materials" would actually be meaningful, but the design of the CG means it's not.

Ever since UAs came in the game I've craved a CG to ship the highly corrosive unknown materials. I've even submitted two CGs; first got rejected for being "too close to" an upcoming CG (which was the Meta Alloy CG that gave us CRCRs... personally I think that's wildly different but w/e), and the other after all the materials at US were found just didn't get a response. People talk about the challenge of long-range hauling, but in my opinion it has nothing on the challenge of long-range hauling dangerous cargo. Without CRCRs, any more than 20 units in the hold can deliver a killing blow to your canopy, putting you on the clock. You can dock and repair sure, but all that introduces more time for your cargo to hit the hatch and jet into space, and also decreases the efficiency of your run. My record is around 50 with no CRCRs at the moment. It's really fun stuff. So my heart lit up when I saw today: ENGINEER APPEAL FOR THARGOID MATERIALS! Hooray, I thought, my hopes and dreams have arrived. I read...

Are these CGs tonne-for-tonne on the goods? I.e 1t of thargoid material is the same contribution as 1t of explosives? If so, what's the point of shipping thargoid mats? Seems a bit useless in the context of shipping thousands of tonnes of market-available goods.

Guys.... guys WHY HAS NOBODY PUT OUT THE JMANISSIGNAL! https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/59c3cb9dffff1a05c9770bdd It's a really big shame about the easymode options (explosives, computer components) for both CGs though :( ... and already I don't feel like contributing...
