Ah goddamnit, lol. :) I was sniffing around someone's post about Horae etc.. Just assumed there must've been two other satellites like the usual triangulation puzzles. Guess this is a new type of puzzle FD's going to start using.

Thing is, there's quite literally nothing "between" the two systems.

USS, unless you target them, are only on the Contacts panel when you are within 1,000Ls of them. If you were 600,000Ls in space, your speed was likely over 200-300c, so that gives you 3-4seconds from seeing it in the right info panel to actually seeing it on the contacts list, before it disappears. It's best to do USS hunting at no faster than 50c

I already told you: the rules of this thread are not Canonn rules, they were agreed upon by the contributors of this thread and are supported by the mods. Canonn has little do with it beyond many people here being members. The debate about posting beta content here gets rehashed with every beta release so feel free to chime in then. The debate about "file-dipping" is closed: as others have pointed out it's against the EULA you agreed to when you installed the game and it is therefore against Frontier's rules for this forum. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/251032-Forum-Rules-and-Guidelines-(23-May-2016)?p=3895612&viewfull=1#post3895612 - - - Updated - - - Normally the thread starter can ask the mods to lock a thread. That's some sort of authority ;) Not sure if it would work in this case with this being the 8th continuation of the original thread. - - - Updated - - -

Err. Have you read the thread topic title? "Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn" - Bolded the relevant bit for emphasis. The last 8 threads before this (or at least; the ones that exist once The Canonn named itself so) have been the same. Before Canonn had their .science domain, these were basically their group threads to coordinate effort. Now, they've got their website and stuff... so maybe there's a question over who maintains "This thread"... and that's definitely fair. Maybe Canonn *don't* own this thread anymore (so why the hell are people expecting them to keep it up to date? ). And that's fine. But like what Han Zen said... the fileposting isn't a Canonn rule here. It's a forum rule. Go fill your boots on Reddit if you like?

In Beta, the amount of rep gain *seemed* to scale with the amount donated. *Seemed*. I haven't tested it yet, but I did make comment about it somewhere in the beta forums.

Just curious... anyone else noticed the UA's now have a different sound on the SRV scanner? Whereas they had the dull "chirp" noise like any other cargo previously... they now have a low "bubbling" noise... something to know if you're going to be combing deserts for this stuff. Also,, lol, just went to one of the "crash sites" when I observed this... dropping out at the marker literally puts you on the wrong side of the planet... had to manually nav there and ignore the shipwreck marker. EDIT: Also, funnily enough... I remember surface-salvage is almost never "illegal salvage", so I put this to the test... sure enough it worked.

For what it's worth, while I've not found any listening posts, I went to both Horae and Alaunus,,, didn't find anything within 1,000Ls of any stellar body.

A brief google/forum search (unless my search-fu is weak) didn't turn up much... unfortunately NPC bounty hunting is so populous it's hard to find info on this. Can someone take a moment to remind me how bounty mechanics work when a player kills another player with a bounty on their head? I was under the impression that for large bounties, the amount returned was capped at something like 2m credits? So for example... if I was wanted for 20m (somewhere in the galaxy besides the current system) and someone KWS'ed me, they should see a bounty for (something) on me... will that be 20m or the cap limit of (whatever it is)... and when I die, I'll respawn in (a station other than the one I had the bounty in) and only lose 2m to rebuy fines, with 18m still on me, but dormant. Does that sound right?

For what it's worth, FD assures me my forgotten CG will run for the week, starting 27th April. Goal is to ship various weapons and the like to a station and turn it into a military economy (changing the actual station appearance isn't possible)... essentially "Retrofitting an old mining station to help fortify the frontier against growing galactic instability... because we all know whatever happens, it'll hit the frontiers first". It cites the various current goings-on... and I can assure you it'll have no bearing on the current plot because it's understandably too difficult for group CGs to have bearing on the plot. Speaking of, does anyone have that old bounty poster which includes me as a "Bio Terrorist" on it? I'm planning a bit of a bounty hunt during that time...

I don't think these have appeared in the live game yet. They triggered when you were idle in space for a while, which is a mechanic that's been around for a fair length of time.

Here's the deal with files and beta. (Oh btw, I'm not part of Canonn, and never have been) You want to look at files? Go ahead. You want to get "spoilers" from beta? Fine, do it. You want to decompile files? You're in breach of the EULA, period. But here's the rub. Don't try and make judgements about what's going to happen or is happening in Live, based off filenames or beta information. Remember when people thought UPs would be found on the surface of planets because of the "Ancient Probe POI" in the scenarios? Well they spawn in space outside ammonia worlds, and better yet, the "Ancient Probe" is just an everyday procgen POI. GG looking at files. Remember when people argued against me claiming the UA emitted morse, because there were no morse sound files other than what nav beacons emitted? Good job guys!

Personally, I find it too inaccurate. It relies on player updates, and for my own faction it's very inconsistent. e.g the most recent info is 10 hours old for one system, 9 days old for another, 5 days old on average. Systems can change ownership in that sort of timeframe. I prefer to just sign out in a friendly station and check galnet daily for issues (e.g it'll say "Faction X is preparing for an election in Y system against Z faction" if there's a pending state I didn't know about), and periodically check the system map for an influence update.

Using beta knowledge is absolutely fine, just not here. There are channels on the Discord and threads in the beta forums for discussion of beta stuff. We don't talk about beta stuff here because there are people who don't have access to beta (or do but don't use it) and don't want any surprises ruined, and also because beta stuff can change and that could lead to confusion down the line. This decision wasn't really a Canonn one (personally I'm not against beta talk here), it was made by the contributors to the thread. Game files are outside the game. They're not part of the story/mysteries, they're not part of the lore, they're a way of taking an end-run around the challenge of discovering stuff in game. Put simply it's cheating, no different than editing save files back in the days of the original Elite. Now, if you want to cheat and it only affects you then I don't see any problem with that. But if you talk about it then you're ruining the surprises for everyone else. You're reducing other people's...
