Title:- Can you really expect an engineer to read your mind

Hermes went on an expedition, but first he had to kit up his ship..
He went to his engineer and asked him what he suggested.
"Well depends on what you want to explore" his engineer said.
    "Everything" Hermes replied
"Everything, you mean you going out for a long time???"
"Nope, just enough to get me a few million"
"Hmmm u need of course a detailed discovery scanner, a Advanced discovery scanner that will cost you about 1.8 million to buy"
"No problem, just need a good jump range now"
"Well might I suggest a A rated FSD"
    "I don't know"

I'm afraid I got some bad news for you Phong.

Her nickname isn't Kathy. It's Kat, and she has a lot of curiosity.

The full quote for the snippet I used for my title is "My dear, find what you love and let it kill you."

When justifying her decision to meet El Guerro she ironically describes it as "the opportunity of a lifetime."

Of course I don't state explicitly what happens after she's finished packing. Maybe she got the interview and got back okay. Maybe her boyfriend persuaded her to stay. But the intended reading of my Drabble is that she copped her whack.

I didn't win but theres no theme for this week ARGGHHHHHHH there can be only one theme

    1. Drabbles must be 100 words exactly (Excluding the title)
    2. Over-use of-hyphens-to keep your word-count at 100 is very amusing but probably not a great idea.
    3. Keep it as clean as you can to suit the family forum rules here, so no frogs attached to anatomical parts.
    4. Only the first 20 entries are guaranteed a place in the (usually weekly) poll.
    5. 1 entry each, you may write as many drabbles as you want, but it is assumed that your first drabble is your chosen entry unless otherwise advised. But please mark Drabbles that you don't want entered as such.
    6. If your drabble is under or over 100 words you will have a chance to correct it before the poll is erected, at this point, your drabble may be DQ'd if other drabbles are available to take its place.
    7. Drabbles must be set in the Elite Dangerous universe (as loosely as you care to make it).
    8. It should try to meet the theme in some arguable way.
    9. If there is more than one theme you must match at least one, but can gain extra votes if you meet more.
    10. It's all for a bit of fun, so enjoy yourself... Enjoyment is mandatory!
    11. If you win, you get to submit next week's Drabble topic, so make sure you post it by 3pm GMT Monday. Or else chaos will ensue and who knows what will happen...
    12. You must big it up and get the Drabble Show over 100 viewers, that would be amazing.
    13. Every winner can be the owner of up to 1 abrakadrabble mug.
    14. No animals were harmed in the making of this series (Simoof is not an animal)
    15. If we get over 25 entries, the potato will host it nude.*
    16. The Title must also now be under 100 words (not including the title to the title)*
    17. Extra points for Kow-tipping.*
    18. Futuristic Kung Fu is not allowed to question the rules, change the rules or even know what the rules are.
    19. Nick Kershaw is the real singer of 'Never Gonna Give You Up'

Sometimes it's difficult to know what constitutes exactly 100 words. Our arbiter is
It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong. Its count is the law.

So submit your drabbles in reply to this thread, and the first 20 will be guaranteed entry into this weeks poll, and read out on our live Show Friday night.
Entries close at Random O'clock on Thursday evening (or sometimes if we have 20 entries earlier). All Drabbles submitted up to Friday Afternoon will have a good chance of being read out on the live Drabble readiing show.

New winners each week now wins a prize ...

the diary of a drunk pilot

    Commanders log
    Entry 156
I'm currently exploring with team HOT- SPED and we are positioned in the centre of the galaxy. Sagittarius A is a stunning site but its not really that much of an achievement since there are so many tourists here.
It's off to the top of the galaxy next then on then we're on our way to Beagle Point. Its not going to be easy but it is sure going to be fun just also as we keep our cool and don't fly into any suns but with 88% hull left i'm starting to panic a bit.

    Cool as a Cobra

The CMDR in the ‘Conda interdicted my Cobra Mk III. I surrendered. Easier, somehow. Sure, I was running illegal missions in the Old Worlds, but no need to panic, I had this covered. FA off and a boost turn before the pirate even got a lock on me. I’d targeted his shields, and keeping tight to his thrusters, shredded them. True, he could have high-waked out, but maybe he was panicking now. Then I took his power plant. Then he went bye-bye boom.

Well, that’s how I played it back in my mind, in retrospect, kinda how it shoulda happened.

    No time to panic.

Jumped to the next scoopable star. Hold full of cargo. An easy run.
Done it so many times, I know the route off by heart.
Skirting along the edge of Pleiades. Old tales of horrors, unseen by my own and several generations above, flit through my memory.
‘Fuel scoop retracted’. I pull away, turning for the next system.
    Everything goes dead. I can’t move. I can’t scan. I can’t Identify.
Canopy windows filled with flower petal shadows.
Coldest of chills grips at my heart. Sweat slicks the suit against my skin. Mouth open to scream but no sound. Life flashes.

OH God will someone please 86 that curry

Darkness enveloped him as he cautiously journeyed the corridors of Hutton.
Face undeterred and beadlets of perspiration forming on his brow.
The corner circumnavigated, he collided with an upturned Psymons briefly delaying his progress. The objective was critical.
Ever onwards he marched, pulsating blood vessels breached his forehead, lungs heaving under desperate breaths, rectum tightly secured.
The Door breached, he targeted the free cubicle ahead, and rested pursed in the opening of the chair of evacuation.
“That was an amazing curry, questionable contents” he uttered
A detached voice called “Farts, I’ve only just finished cleaning the floor in here”

Is it too late for this entry?

    Double-Plus Good

Judge Carvam-Hall looked on panickedly as another witness was brought before the senate committee.

"Hello Mr Skiprat. You've been brought before us as an expert witness to explain some of the terms used in Carvam-Hall's yearbook."

"Devil's Triangle - Three students get together to sing hymns to oust the Devil.

Bouffing - Helping little old ladies across the street to get to church.

Renatta Illuminous - It's a word which is used to show the admiration and respect the judge has for Renatta."

After leaving, Skiprat pulled a wad of cash from a bag to check it was all there.

    The missed deadline:Don't Panic!

Explosions ripped through the hull, armoured plating glowing before dissolving into shards of shrapnel as bulkheads collapsed, spewing forth its ejecta of damaged equipment, ruined cargo and all the incidental ephemera needed to sustain life for the long journey through the vastness of space. The pilot of the first rescue vessel to reach the scene of destruction described his feelings of absolute helplessness as he watched bodies, still blazing, hurl themselves to a quick death by explosive decompression rather than suffer the agonies of incineration.Shuddering and moaning ,the Ark of the Narrative continued it's plunge towards a fiery end. +++++++ edit: I see i already have an entry in,so i'll withdraw this and restock on candles.

    Tharg the Poorly

The sirens went off like a flatulent tramp. Tharg the mighty had finally entered Dongkum.
Waves of hard tentacled ships pounded on Hahns ring
punching a hole through the back doors, vacuum sucking off the residents in a single moment of ecstasy and pain.
Ones who'd remlocked up being scooped deep inside the bowls of Thargs ships.

    And this was the mistake.

Tharg turned his attention to Swanwick.
    The human ships nervously waiting.
Then an explosion, another, boils formed on Thargs fleet oozing before exploding in a see of green gunk and tentacle.

Tharg Panicked, he had caught an STD...

I thought I posted this last night

    oh well

I think maybe it's time for a few rule changes

    1. Poll to go up Friday after the show during the vote potato bit or at least some point friday maybe mid-day?

I think our biggest problem is people only think drabble show late thursday and Friday lol. Maybe monday if they're winning the poll. But the cut off time should be say mid-day Friday?

    2. If the winner hasn't picked a theme by Tuesday a theme will be picked @ random.

    3. I blame Midden for all this

  14. #2924
Maybe the way past the problem of people not picking the topic until it's way too late is to get them to show what their choice of topic would be for next week as they submit their entry. Just include their choice at the end of their Drabble.

I know that this means people might judge their winners on their choice of next week's topic, but it also might result is some more interesting topics.

And if someone doesn't put a topic at the end of their Drabble, then we don't have to wait to know that it's going to be a free-for-all week.

    Panic At The Disco

"You'll go far, son", my Da' always said. I tightened my grip on the plunger in my right hand and watched as a brown dribble of someones rejected vindaloo ran down my other arm. Sanitation operative (3rd rank) aboard the discovery class Xeno Chaser 1 probably wasn't what Da' meant, but it had certainly taken me far.

The piercing alarm of an emergency jump into witchspace pulled me from my revery.

I looked at the still swollen bowl of waste in horror. There was no time to finish or leave before the gravity spin brakes hit and the jump began.

    p.s. not my fault!
