    Horizons Highlights: The Engineers
The Engineers was launched last week at no additional charge to all those who own the Horizons season pass, and already we’re seeing some beautiful screenshots and videos.

CMDR Zindae was surprised to find this crashed Diamondback on a planet’s surface. You can also see the cracks and marks in the planet surface around the wreck.
Plotting a route to Beagle Point just got that little bit easier, with the new bookmarks system. CMDR Gienkov has his route sorted…
CMDR Klassic found this ‘poor little Condor’ floating alone in space… we can only wonder what happened here.
According to CMDR Allerose, the New Huge Weapons are super effective… look at the mess they’ve left behind!
CMDR Paul Loachman visited Farseer Inc… he took this lovely panoramic screenshot.
Obsidian Ant uploaded this video detailing the FSD upgrades available via the Engineers.

New Ship Bobbleheads In Store Now!

Xbox players can buy the Bobbleheads through the Xbox in-game store using Frontier points bought on xbox.com.
Elite Dangerous: Horizons on Xbox One Out Now
Elite Dangerous: Horizons adds a raft of amazing new elements to an already vast game – seamlessly extending gameplay to countless gigantic and scientifically accurate planetary surfaces, and unleashing players to fight, scavenge and explore with the high speed Surface Recon Vehicle. On land, players can discover valuable resources, experience deadly combat encounters, raid bases, scout crash sites, and cooperate with other players on the planet surface and flying high above.

Players will discover the enigmatic Engineers and unlock a world of customization options that will change the way they fly, trade, explore and fight in the Elite Dangerous galaxy. With hidden bases on planet surfaces across the populated galaxy, each Engineer has a unique personality and history, and they just might choose to help you with their custom weapons and specialized modules… for the right price.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons Commanders on PC and Xbox One will receive further expansions at no extra cost as the season continues. Future gameplay updates will debut for PC and Xbox One simultaneously, bringing new activities and new ways to play on both platforms:

    • Ship-Launched Fighters, allowing larger spacecraft to carry their own short-range fighter craft for attack and defense.

    • Multicrew, allowing teams of Commanders to assume roles aboard the same ship.

    • Commander creation, giving a unique appearance to Commanders’ in-game avatars.

What’s more, Xbox One Commanders who purchase Horizons before the 30th July will also get access to the Cobra Mk IV in game. This early incentive mirrors our pre order incentive previously offered to PC players. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in selected ship yards if you have access and will require in game credits to purchase.

The Elite Dangerous: Horizons season pass for Xbox One is available digitally through Xbox.com and the Xbox One store as an upgrade for existing players for £19.99 ($29.99, €24.99, 1,489 RUB), and for new players packaged with Elite Dangerous and Commander Paint Job pack as part of the Xbox One Commander Deluxe edition for £39.99 ($59.99, €49.99, 2,999 RUB).
NPC AI and other updates, tweaks and changes in The Engineers
Last weekend some key issues came to light with Elite Dangerous 1.6 and Elite Dangerous Horizons 2.1 The Engineers, so we wanted to explain some of the changes we have already implemented and will implement in future to improve our Commanders’ in-game experience.
One of the most hotly debated topics in the community since The Engineers (2.1) launched last week were, the AI and NPC changes. The aim of these changes were to ensure that there is a balance for new and veteran players, having behaviour that enhances the challenge for all in an enjoyable way. We didn’t hit that balance, because of some bugs and a number of other reasons.

We were able to quickly remove almost all Engineers upgrades from the NPCs in game, which removed the worst symptoms and gave us time to investigate the problem – it turns out that a networking issue inadvertently gave NPC AIs a loophole, which they ruthless exploited, to merge weapon stats and abilities creating never before seen, devastatingly effective, Engineers-enhanced weaponry. How very sci-fi..

Fortunately for all of us, our dev team won this particular battle for humanity’s future. The AI in-game is still the enhanced version, and we released the fix for the networking issue in today’s 2.1.2 point update. We expect the intended, improved behaviours to become more evident – please rest assured that we will be keeping a VERY close eye on this to make sure it works as intended.

We also received a lot of additional feedback about the RNG element of the Engineers – which is addressed in a future point update - and about the non-existence of bi-weave shields (which was a consequence of a bug fix in a related area and were re-instated in the same server update earlier this week that removed the Engineers weaponry from NPC AIs).

All of the above, and more, was covered in forum posts by our Head of Community, Zac Antonaci, throughout the week – please check both of the forum threads below for details and any updates subsequent to this newsletter – we will keep you informed.

NPC AI, Engineers and Bi-Weave shields.

    NPC AI update.
    Message from the Pilots Federation
    Good news Commanders,

Due to the recent surge of unsanctioned and illegally modified weapons from the NPC AI over the recent days. The Pilots Federation have agreed to reimburse all insurance payouts made over that period (Between The Engineers (2.1) update and this mornings update).

The Pilots Federation would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and continued support.

    The Dangerous Games
The largest of the galaxy’s player factions are involved in a competition, dubbed the Dangerous Games, for the right to be recognised as an official Power.

To get involved in the Dangerous Game head over to the Naunin system and pledge your allegiance to one the groups by accepting their Community Goal! You can find out more about each group in the games by watching our Dangerous Games livestream VOD.
With the start of this event still some weeks away, a number of smaller factions have begun competing for their chance to participate. In the coming weeks, these factions will attempt to rally Commanders to their respective causes through a series of community-oriented events.

The first of these events requires pilots to fire up their mining lasers and gather gold for their chosen faction. The faction with the most gold at the end of the week-long campaign will be declared the victor.

    GalNet Focus
Welcome to our weekly roundup of news stories and events in the Elite: Dangerous galaxy.
The Diamond Frogs have announced that their appeal to help 63 G. Capricorni recover from the revelry of the Explorers’ Gala has been positively received by the galactic community. Huge quantities of hangover-recovery supplies were delivered to Skvortsov Orbital to help the system recuperate from what many are calling the best party the galaxy has ever seen.
The i Bootis Democrats, a Federal organisation based in the i Bootis system, has reported the discovery of an abandoned research outpost on Mitterrand Hollow. The organisation has issued a request for geological samples from Mitterrand Hollow so it can continue the original scientists’ research.
Ngolibardu Electronics Solutions has announced that its campaign to clear the Ngolibardu system of agitators has been a success. Hundreds of pilots responded to the appeal, taking to their ships to eliminate the criminals.
Recent reports indicate that a number of starports forced to suspend services due to Unknown Artefact-related interference have been restored to normality through the application of meta-alloys. This development – a testament to the hard work of the pilots who have delivered meta-alloys to the affected stations – will no doubt bring hope to those still affected by the technological plague.
    Pixel Bandits Event
The Pixel Bandits are celebrating the launch of Horizons on Xbox One with a planetary landing event. See the details from their forum post below:

“To celebrate the landing (teehee) of Horizons, we have a special one off event scheduled for Saturday June 4th, to rejoice in all that is good and holy. We will be hosting our inaugural event in what promises to be a much loved and increasingly popular race series. It’s a very simple premise, multiple participants, one track, one ship at either end.

The first person to make it from point A to point B wins. It’s that simple. After our first test run (Scheduled for Saturday June 4th) we’ll be looking to expand this event to a whole season, with multiple planets and many not quite so exotic locations. We are taking individual entries only for the first event, though we will of course be looking at team entries for future seasons

Sign up and come help us celebrate this wonderful occasion.”
    Community Goals Update
Greetings Commanders, and welcome to this week’s community goals blog. If you’re looking for a goal, the breakdown below should help:

    The Dangerous Games: Mining Challenge
MacLeod Hub, Naunin system – Earn Dangerous Games points for your favourite wildcard group by delivering mined gold to their goal at MacLeod Hub in the Naunin system.

    Bring Order to Mehet:
Schwann Dock, Mehet System – Hunt down wanted pilots in the Mehet system and hand in bounty vouchers at Schwann Dock in the Mehet system.

Community Goal: The Dangerous Games Wildcard Event Begins
The galaxy is home to countless factions, some boasting thousands of members and others comprising only a handful of individuals. Some exist to serve the galactic community, while others follow more antagonistic dogmas. For almost every creed in human space, there is a corresponding faction.

Recent reports indicate that the largest of these factions have gained such significant levels of power and influence that they are on the cusp of being recognized as powers in their own right. This development coincides with mounting speculation that the empire of Pirate Lord Archon Delaine, once the most formidable power in the Pegasi Sector, is on the brink of collapse.

With a paradigm shift looming, the largest of the galaxy’s factions have taken the unprecedented step of organising a semi-official competition for the right to be recognised as an official power. The name of this competition? The Dangerous Games.

Trinity Avon, a reporter for The Sovereign, elaborated on the nature of the event:

“There are five factions competing in the Dangerous Games: the Alliance Elite Diplomatic Corps, the Border Coalition, GalCop, the Interstellar Communist Union and the Social Eleu Progressive Party. Between June and July 3302, these groups will participate in a series of community campaigns, giving the galaxy’s independent pilots a chance to support their chosen faction.”

But these will not be the only factions taking part. With the start of the event still some weeks away, a number of smaller factions have begun competing for their chance to participate in the Dangerous Games. In the coming weeks, these factions will attempt to rally Commanders to their respective causes through a series of community-oriented events. Whichever faction successfully dominates its rivals in these ‘Wildcard’ events will enter the Dangerous Games, competing for the right to join the ranks of the galaxy’s most powerful.

The first Wildcard event requires pilots to fire up their mining lasers and gather gold for their chosen faction. The faction with the most gold at the end of the week-long campaign will be declared the victor of the first Wildcard heat. Naturally, pilots are also free to disrupt their rivals’ efforts.

Factions participating in the Wildcard competition are not permitted to give their supporters financial rewards, but authorities at MacLeod Hub have promised to offer above-market prices for Gold to help pilots meet the costs of taking part.

Remember, the Dangerous Games is about getting your chosen group into power, not credits!

The event begins on the 2nd of June 3302 and will run for one week.

    Bring Order to Mehet
Authorities in the Mehet system have reported that the number of criminals operating in the area has risen sharply over the past few months. Recent reports indicate that agitators have been attacking pilots travelling in the system, disrupting trade and generally causing discord.

To counter this threat, Mehet Ltd has placed a kill order on all wanted ships operating in the Mehet system, and has promised to reward pilots who deliver bounty vouchers to Schwann Dock.

The campaign begins on the 2nd of June 3302 and will run for one week. If the final target is met earlier than planned, the campaign will end immediately.

Seems like you spent quite a long time writing this post up Brett! Works just as well as newsletter, just not as pretty (although the header image in newest newsletter was very low res)

Hope newsletter gets sorted out soon to avoid time spent doing this

Minor observation, not sure any of the links are working.

Nice to see "Xbox One Commanders who purchase Horizons before the 30th July will also get access to the Cobra Mk IV in game" - perhaps the Cobra IV could (should?) be an ongoing inclusion in every future early purchase - for all formats - it might help assuage any grumbling discontentment re: the ship.

Good job on today's patch btw

Hello? This looks intriguing. Is there a new planetary landing settlement on Mitterand Hollow then? Is this some sort of CG (did I miss a Galnet article)?
