I find it interesting how much deeper the colours are from above although I have no idea if that is an effect of the graphics engine or is reflecting some real world phenomenon - on the way to this nebula I did notice the same thing with NGC 3199 as I approached and then passed it.

So...ladies and gentlemen, my day (possibly my whole week) has just been made. I've just found a Ringed Earth-like world around a Neutron Star. Anyway, enjoy the eye candy:

    The planet itself:

    From the rings:

    Within the rings:

P.S.: If you don't think it's orbiting a Neutron, take a look at the gravitational lensing in the galactic band

Not as glorious a discovery as an ELW with rings, but the shape of this potato made me laugh. I had fun taking my SRV for a ride. And a climb. Down.

Ever seen a Capitol ship under construction?

Our little Aisling is playing with construction sets it seems :-)

A 7.1G ringed planet lit by an amazingly bright star, black hole and Barnard's loop from behind

Ooooh, what a place to set up a secluded getaway down on the surface. Imagine the views!

I found some more nice scenery while loitering around:

Posted these over in Screenie(s) but perhaps here would be more appropriate ...

In and around the Veil nebulae ...

Probably off to the North American nebula next.

And a few from earlier ...

    Started out here ..

.. and then decided to push onwards to the Witch Head nebula. Stopped off for shinies at HIP 36234 ..

.. and then onwards to Witch Head, and very pretty it is too!

Following on from yesterday's journey to the Witch Head nebula, today I decided to just keep going, ultimately ending up behind the Horse Head looking back towards the galactic core.

    Yesterday ..

    A few from this morning's journey ..

And lastly, the Pièce de résistance ..

    Milky Way? check
    Nebula? check
    Asteroids? check
Ship parked in front of it all? check

When I entered this Planetary Nebula, the black hole at its heart caused the light-dimming to break...and there was a very bright star nearby. In short: It looks amazing.
