Hello Bo, when could we expect news about tickets ? With some friends we would come but need to prepare the trip by train. So with a little acknowledgement it would help us to manage train reservation in advance to save some money !

    Nope it was Gamescom (source).

The 3 major trade shows are E3, Gamescom and TGS (Tokyo Games Show), which is where most companies make their announcements.

Wasn't completely sure. I know they did show a lot of stuff at EGX as well.

A Canadian event, especially in Toronto would be fantastic!

I suppose if you look at the upcoming releases (2.4 sounds a bit like a 'soft' release, insofar as it's being released but much of the content won't be known to the public until certain events are triggered; and the subsequent releases focus on the core game rather than splashy new features), they're not exactly ideally suited to a big, games-floor announcement.

It's probably far better that these upcoming features are announced to a narrower, more targeted audience; such as an ED-only event somewhere.

Ah, so you guys will still be there, but just without much Elite news, right? What can we expect? The same size and style of last year's Frontier gamescom booth? Since last year's focus was more on PlanetCoaster anyway.

Because I only bought my Gamescom tickets mostly for meeting you guys again (Especially the magic community management trio: You, Ed and Zac. :D

Elsewhere in style or elsewhere as in not Elite: Dangerous?

Yes but a significant improvement of the core game could bring many new players. Therefore an important communication will also be necessary

What I gather no show for regular booth is due of FD saving it all for special 2.4 event - similar to ED launch event - which most likely will fully introduce Thargoids, wave goodbye to Horizons and will explain way forward. Which makes sense. Yes, attendance matters, but what matters mostly is media focus and in regular trade shows FD is drown out by other news from other devs.

I presume that this event is the one mentioned here:

“We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players.

“We’ll be sharing more news on that content and our road map at a very special event coming later in the year – more details on this event will be released in the weeks after E3.”

Sure, any change/improvement could bring in new players. But I think for gamers less familiar with the game, they're more likely to be drawn in by splashy, visual improvements. First-person combat. Flying down into a gas giant. Landing in the middle of a sandstorm.. SRV combat etc..

It's a tougher sell if you're showing off improvements to the crime and punishment system. Fixes to the BGS. Integration between Powerplay and the BGS. Some new mission templates, such as escort missions ("what? You didn't have escort missions already?") Removing the infinite discovery scanner and adding gameplay to find stuff. All badly needed - but not quite headline news to entice new players.
