    Newsletter #189

All the latest Elite Dangerous news

Welcome to the Elite Dangerous Newsletter, the place to find all the latest from the Elite Dangerous galaxy.

This week we celebrate the launch of Elite Dangerous 2.4’s open beta, show off a range of radiant new paint jobs that have entered the store, and follow a Commander’s ambitious 730 day journey into deep space.

As always, you can hear the latest news and updates directly from the development team on our Forums, Twitter, Facebook, Community Homepage, and right here in the newsletter every week, and we're always eager to hear your feedback.

    On the Horizon
All the latest for Elite Dangerous: Horizons

The 2.4 closed beta saw thousands of Commanders take to the new version to test and review the update before it hits the game. During this time, the development team were hard at work looking through your reports and getting the build ready for our next phase – the open beta.

We’re delighted to be able to confirm that the 2.4 open beta is now live, and we’re asking Commanders from every corner of the galaxy to jump in and test the latest version! Please make sure to give us your valuable feedback via our dedicated beta forum, and to report any bugs in the beta bug forum. Please remember that 2.4 will play out differently to previous updates.

The Return, our 2.4 update, will continue to develop over time, which is why the 2.4 beta won’t include the Thargoid content coming in 2.4. From the start of the 2.4 update you’ll be able to interact with the Thargoids, an alien race that humanity has not encountered for centuries. As the update progresses you’ll research new technologies and unearth long-hidden mysteries, as the galaxy is faced with The Return of this ancient and powerful force.

Opportunities to meet the Frontier crew

Fantasticon is an annual science fiction, fantasy and gaming event hosted by Fantastic Books Publishing in Hull, UK. The event will be taking place on the 2nd and 3rd of September. It’s a great place to meet Commanders and enjoy a weekend of fun!

We will be in attendance and getting involved with all of the activities throughout the weekend. Our very own Zac Antonaci will be hauling some extra special cargo in the form of exclusive codes that you will be able interdict and hold him ransom for. Alternatively, you can simply find him and say ‘Hello!’

On Saturday night after the event, there will be a late night gathering of Elite Dangerous Commanders at the Britannia Royal Hotel in Hull. All Elite Dangerous Commanders attending Fantasticon are welcome to join us for some free drinks and good company to reflect on an awesome day.

Mission Farsight is an ambitious, long-term mission from Commanders travelling to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, circumnavigating the galactic rim and then turning toward Sagittarius A* before returning home. The Hermes is currently on Day 237 of its journey and has had a little help along the way. The Fuel Rats' very own CMDR Unifex and CMDR HighwayWarrior have assisted with some close calls.

A number of commentators have offered assessments of the current Thargoid situation, including Professor Cora Shaw of the Palin Institute, who expressed hope that Aegis could answer some of the outstanding questions. Journalist Kelvin Masters, meanwhile, speculated that a Thargoid attack could be imminent.

The Kamadhenu Chapterhouse of Inquisition has announced plans to establish a series of starports between the core systems and Colonia to make the daunting voyage a little easier. The Chapterhouse has placed an open order for various commodities for the first of three planned starports.

A spokesperson for the Kpelidoog Empire Assembly has announced that its plan to build a new Wells-class Carrier has received the wholehearted support of the galactic community. Hundreds of pilots took to their ships to deliver construction materials to Hipparchus Terminal, the organisation’s base of operations.

Secoya Emperor's Grace has announced that its appeal for luxury goods has been enthusiastically received by the galactic community. Hundreds of pilots responded to the appeal by delivering commodities to Joy Port for this year’s Sigma Summit, a conference attended by some of the Empire’s most powerful individuals.

Captain Skoomer takes a moment to reflect with a poem, accidentally broadcasting it across his comms channel.

We were all excited with regards to the Solar Eclipse on 21 August, but CMDR oljanks thought that perhaps our alien friends might also have been excited!

See you in the black, Commanders
