    Non-Human Signal Sources (NHSS) in area of Maia / Asterope / HR1185 (not Merope itself). There seem to be many. You will encounter 1 or more. Deploying weapons / approaching is not advised, be prepared to run.

    Type 5 and 7 - not sure if content are different - info about encounters. Threat 2 appears to be a source of UP (Unknown Probe) / TP (Thargoid Probe).

    NHSS Locations

    Mainly around Maia, Merope, Asterope. Possibly within the usual UP range (up to 150 Ly from Merope). None found in Merope itself.

    Modules

    There is a Research Limpet to collect samples from Thargoids - appears to be available from Founders World in Shinrarta Dezhra, also Brestla 'at the surface port', Schlegel Keep in LHS 3980. These collect tissue samples which can be sold. They are corrosive.

    Thargoid Types

    It appears there are different marking on the Thargoid Ships (ref)

    The Thargoid ships display sets of numbers that change. These are octal numbers which map to ASCII codes. These are sets of three letters that can be rearranged to say 'HULL STRESS FACTOR UNCERTAIN'.     What are they interested in?

    They ignore most foodstuffs, Soontil Relics etc but will scoop Slaves and Imperial Slaves, Escape Pods. They attack Ancient Relics (and possibly you, if you carry them). Also attack if you carry thargoid stuff (TS, Meta-alloys, UP)

    Systems Unlocked

    None - HIP 22460 permit is unchanged. Regor / Col 70 etc : no changes in permits seen

    New Missions

    People are seeing missions with large payouts to ship Thargoid stuff around Maia region (Darnielle's is mentioned). The goods are corrosive, be fast, and expect your canopy to be blown!

    Changes of Names

    Unknown Artefects / Unknown Probes (and probably others) have been renamed - UA are now Thargoid Sensors, UP are now TP (Thargoid Probe)

    Changes in Thargoid Surface Bases

    None reported. Thargoid devices working same as before. Only difference is that when you scan the Uplink point in the base (which you can do from outside) it reveals barnacle sites in the system in the Nav panel. Which is how ....

    Note that after you scan the Uplink you will be able to see Barnacles across the whole system by just pointing your ship at them:

    This does not work if you target the planet! This means you can 'sweep' your ship over the orbital path to check for barnacles, similar to the way you can find Ancient Ruins.

    New USS Content

    Now with Empire / Thargoid encounters (link)

    The Thargoid Probe Has Been Fixed

    Several weeks ago I was conducting phenomenology of the Thargoid Probe (formerly known as the Unknown Probe). I found that it was not functioning as reported in previous investigations (by CMDRs Wace, Kal, and others). Basically the Thargoid Probe’s tightbeam signal was not reporting the octals that encode the distance to Col 70 FY-N C21-3. To be more specific, it was failing to do so around bodies without a reported atmospheric pressure, such as airless moons, airless planets, and even gas giants (CMDR @kal reproduced my findings). I had submitted a bug report with my findings:

    So, naturally, I wanted to find out if this had been addressed by the fdevs/Thargoids in 2.4. I am happy to report that the Thargoid Probe now functions properly:



    It’s good to know that the device is now functioning as intended. But at the same time I am a bit saddened because we thought we were onto something new and unique, something we could leverage to find other Unknown Structures. Ah well =)

    Any station that has rearm will supply limpets
    Advanced maintenance in station services
    Cargo rack to carry them needed

    I added links to search Eddb for the new stuff - let me know if they don't work - though remember modules can go out of stock. Some reported locations don't follow expectations - the base on Brestla appears to be a Colony but has the limpet controller - all others I see referenced are Military, so I've just put up a link for Military on the FP.

    Just had my first encounter NHSS(5) - in sector Pleiades Sector QO-Q B5-2. It had 8 sections to it with lots of little fighters(?) flying in a circle around it. I have video captured with it being my first encounter. It didn't like the look of my trade cutter when I scanned it, so I ran away.
