Especially when we consider the 'Scouting Party' comment from Michael Brookes way back when.
On the other hand, the canisters of thargoid bits suggest it's recent.

There's some sort of damage on it which doesn't appear to match any weapon we've seen so far.

I wonder if the thargoid items are just an update to the site

Does barnacle forest provide materials for scooping? Is it much more than normal barnacle?

Do research limpets work on it?

If you scan it, the 'analysis' says "High concentrations of mycoid particle detected". It is difficult to scan (probably because of a bug); see Ecthelion's post (and mine below his) to see how it is done (NB we were not the first to scan it, but we explained how it can be done after trying to reproduce the scan): https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showth...=1#post5968119

Edit: The first screenshot in his post shows the full scan result.

That definitely implies it's a relic of the first war then.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

Ok cool, cheers. I'd just assumed we weren't able to scan it for whatever reason. Just finished reorganising all my ships and was about to leave Pleiades and head off to join the CGs, but might stop over at the crash one more time and see if I can get the scan to work.

ed: Easy as, got it on the first SRV roll over. Yeah definitely a bug, the scan point is 550'ish metres underground.

That barnacle site from look like the start of a site to me.

The crashed ship, I know this is out side the box, but it that an old guardian ship
I guess not with the scan results

I took some highres screens of the Scout while visiting it earlier this week (NB: 10240x5760 res - right click image and open in new tab):

If it is then there should be a lot more around the pleiades I'd expect.

Could someone please explain how the Barnie Forest was found?

It is quite a way out from the main star.... and even the presence of the Gnosis in system still makes it a stretch (even allowing for a trail of biscuit crumbs...)
Was it some tip off? or Beacons??

Somebody scanned a POI in the system and a bug caused all the system POIs to highlight iirc.

I was at the Barnacle Forest, and saw something jumping around on my scanner so I went to investigate. Landed there, about 4.5 km away from the site, was a System Defence Force Eagle. Unresponsive, just sitting there.

This does make sense. The only thing that makes me doubt the age is the presence of canisters of current materials (Thargoid Technological Samples, for example), the same stuff that Palin was asking for recently.

Why would an old ship be carrying canisters of current materials?

Of course there's no way to really date the materials, I'm just going by looks

It would be cool to see oldschool ships crashed as well.
Then again, it'd be a waste of good resources to make a detailed models to be an easter egg only. My money is on that we'll see these things flying.
