Thread: Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Last Gasp (06.01.3304 - 14.01.3304)

Neat! this one is going to be a lot of fun for the route planning specialists.

Intent to race. I'm really looking forward to this one.

If I had 25 minutes to live I would be really foolish trying to race around outposts in a medium ship.

I'm still planning to race in The Nomad, but this one might push me over the edge into the DBX club. I do love docking at outposts though, and I'm more familiar with the single medium pad locations
At least the start/finish isn't an outpost - it would be a bit of a sickener to arrive with a few seconds left only to find the pad occupied. Lol.

"Miss Grind? Sorry to bother you but there's something in Galnet news that I thought you'd like to see"

Irritated, Delia looked up from the mountain of paperwork she was reading through and glared at her secretary.

"Really David, if it's another story about Aegis or fake news about this migration to Colonia then I'm just not interested"

"No, it's something a little bit more unusual than that"

Delia sighed, dragged up the latest news feed and started listening.

"This is nonsense, an issue of Galnet News falling through a wormhole in time? I really don't have time for this tosh David!"

She reached out to stop the broadcast.

"Wait ... fast forward to 3:14!"

As Delia listened a smile slowly spread across her face. When she got to the end she briefly clenched her fist in a smal gesture of triumph and whispered "attaboy Bump!".

"Thanks David, it seems an old friend took my advice after all".

Ugh. Stupid planetary orbits... stupid Stellar Forge not leaving objects fixed... Going to submit a support ticket that planets move too much!
Failed two runs because my destinations got obscured by a planet or star moving, which would gut the time to divert around them.

1st run I had it happen, and didn't think i'd lost much time, but it happened again, and I just turned o2 back on at that point.
2nd run was going very smooth, I should've had time to take off from the penultimate outpost, warp and do the last planned one, and (very tightly) get back to LHS 142... as I take off there's a fat-bottomed moon right in front of me, mooning away. I target the primary star and SC to de-obscure my destination, but I could see it wasn't going to hook up properly, so just headed back to Vo with a very comfortable 1:44 left.

So yeah completed a run at least, but I theoretically should be able to squeeze in one more outpost.
Have to see if I can try again later this week...

Nice (unlucky with those obscured jumps). Submit that run so I can get it on the scoreboard (you can submit as many runs as you like so no point in not submitting and it's nice for others to have a target to beat).

I initially planned to start getting deprived of oxygen this morning, but I ended up getting deprived of blood instead so test runs have become Sunday's business. In the meantime, official intent to race:

    Cmdr Aken B.
Regulation Hauler - Lemon To A Gunfight
Unlimited - Diamondback Explorer - Bucket Of Bolts

    - If I only had 25 minutes left to live I would ...carve the epitaph on my gravestone:

"Here lies Aken Bosch: it started as a nap, things got out of hand."

First run/trial finished with me turning on life support 15.7Mm from Vo dock. Plan to redo the same route so I get something submitted, then if I have the chance to try a totally different strategy.

On the positive side i'm enjoying my first flight experience with the hauler.

*grumbles about having to work every weekend*

First two attempts yesterday made it clear that my plan was overly ambitious.

    Back to the drawing board.

It seems a few people may be in this position, no entries to display at the time of writing. I gather Mr Barnum has gone back to bed for now.

Oooooh close one .... I feel a "Very Last Gasp" trophy coming on (although in what colour remains to be seen)

Ouch, that sounds nasty ... nothing too serious I hope!

    Fly safe commanders!

Absolutely not, it was half a litre but it was also a voluntary thing. Or at least, they kindly asked some days ago if I was available, I was just yesterday. Being a donor it happens from time to time to get a call from the local blood centre when they are low on stocks, and when you are an O- you are more or less seen as this:

But hey at least they didn't take my car!

I've still to do initial dry runs on the "race course" (even if there isn't any), again delayed this morning because...I forgot to charge the edtracker , I took the time to complete another thing I was doing...currently encoding ...

Right then you lot, got something you'd raaaather be doin' than marchin' up and down the galaxy (with your life support turned off) 'ave you?!?!

YES! AkenBosch ... what would you raaaather be doin AkenBosch?
"I'd quite to like to go and give blood" ... WOULD YOU NOW! Right - off you go!
Everyone else happy with my little plan of marching up and down the galaxy.
Raiko: "I've got some exploring I'd quite like to do" .... RIGHT! you go an do your exploring then!

Bloody Buckyball Racing Club ... don't know what it's coming to these days.

Right, sergeant major marchin' up and down the galaxy!

  12. #42
Hey now that you mention it, there's indeed a book I'd quite like to read ....ok ok, disengaging life support as we speak

Seriously tho', don't know about you but it always goes this way for me...look forward to the coming holidays to disappear from society and sink an hour or twenty to catch up on your favourite hobbies, end up doing literally everything else but that...

    Some hours later....

...a rough plotting has been laid out and a preliminary test run has been made. What happened next will shock you!

I almost died. Almost! Can confirm, gasping sounds are still there.

  14. #44
Okay, trying to get this thing right is reaching push pin and yarn levels of plotting.

I love it when I start searching my closet for those kinds of supplies.

i can confirm people are polishing their boots to a lovely glacage at this very moment!

PS: Top Tip - after taking a break from ED ensure that you Nvidia drivers are up to date prior to relying on video evidence for your screenies
