Noob question from a long time player about lasers

Shields are harder as well as recharge faster with 4 pips.
Engines perform better as well as recharge faster with 4 pips...
So do pips to lasers increase the MJ output as well as recharge rate?

I did a search but couldn't find anything pertaining to the topic.

I don't believe so. In my experience, putting 4 pips to weps just means you can fire them for a longer period of time.

I'm not sure of the answer but a follow on question for me is: what does 4 pips in SYS do for me?

    Longer lasting shields.

Yeah, 4 pips in SYS make shields more resistant to damage, but as far as weapons go, their damage output isn't affected by pips, only the recharge rate of the capacitor.

The point is that pips in weapons just means cooling power for the weapons, not energising power. That''s why you see "thermal overload" on the redded-out weapon in the HUD when the pips are drained.

I believe that the higher your weapon capacitor is, the cooler your ship will be too. So if your ship overheats when firing weapons, more pips will tend to keep your ship cooler indirectly as well as the obvious benefit to firing longer.

I thought the laser weapons would stay the same but wanted to verify it.

I have noticed the cooling aspect of 4 pips to weapons. It really manifests itself using certain loadouts.

And certain ships. Some ships have great cooling and are not as susceptible to overheating, even if you fire lasers with low WEP capacitor. Some will cook you alive.

Pips to WEPs simply means you can fire the lasers for a longer period of time before the WEPs capacitor is depleted.
