Seize this opportunity and fix the 2 exploration scanner module situation

FD said that with the exploration update they won't have "module racks" that would let you put multiple smaller modules into one larger slot, fair enough. However, they also said they'd probably just remove the basic and intermediate discovery scanner entirely.

So why not seize this opportunity? Here's how it should be after the update:

    * Basic Discovery Scanner. Has all the planet-finding and scanning technology planned for the post-update ADS.
    * Advanced Discovery Scanner: All the functionality of the basic version, plus the new scanning drone feature.

There, problem solved, while retaining some amount of progression for explorers form the more basic equipment to the better gear, and everyone saves 1 module slot in the process. This would be a boon both to the largest ships which have to spend two class 3 or even class 4 slots on the scanners, making this far less wasteful, and the smaller ships where the number of slots is always very limited.

    That is a useful change,
less module creep = more happy players.

For me the progression you mention is almost irrelevant. I'd say just merge ADS/DSS to one module and do away with B/IDS.

Plus change a C4 to a C5 for the DBX

And it's probably vastly easier to implement than the "module rack" that has been proposed numerous times.

Great idea, but it has to be consolidated into a single class 1 slot. Otherwise, you'll screw over the Sidey's out there on the rim of the galaxy.

Depends, FD still has the limpet rack outstanding which we need.
So they still have to lay down the first stone and then just copy paste.

    That was the idea.

My idea is not a modular piece of equipment where you slot in sub-modules. More like adding the functionality they are implementing into the new DSS, but putting it into the ADS. That saves us all a module slot for comparitively little development cost. A compromise, in essence.

How about just making the scanners into utility mounts so they don't take up any precious module space at all?
Or a fully integrated part of the ship like the landing gear or cargo scoop so as not to take up utility slots either?

Maybe only have the above fully integration feature for dedicated exploration ships, but for multirole ships they're still optional modules?
With the freed up optional slots in the exploration ships converted into restricted slots that only allow for repair limpet controllers or AFMUs?
