Single Player Combat Training without purchase

I've been playing Elite since near the beginning and I'm trying to get others to join, but I'm not sure if they'll like it or not. Is it possible for people to play just the training section to see if they'll enjoy it before buying?

You certainly used to be able to do so.

The bottom entry on the launcher menu - "Single Player Combat Training" - replaces the Play button with "Play Demo".

So give it a try, see if they can install that.

Let us know how you / they get on.

Of course, failing that, they can buy through Steam and get a refund if they don't like it within 2 hours of play I think - don't quote me on that though in case I misunderstood that situation.

Afaik it is less than 2 hours of actual playtime with steam and within a time frame of 14 days after purchase to request a refund. Actual play time is not necessarily time being in the game though, it counts from when one launched the game and will count as well the time, where the ED launcher is on screen, not necessarily being logged in and playing - launcher time is play time in this sense as well.
