The puzzles were elaborate, but FDEV flubbed the implementation.

    My arguement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov%27s_gun

If there is a puzzle that must be solved by analyzing the sound spectrum of the probes, there must be a means to analyze the sounds in the game prior to the puzzle being found. FDEV should have found a way to implement the 'scanner' such that is was useful for something mundane, but secretly intended for the puzzle.

Bringing this back to the Thargoid menace: I worry that FDEV has not thought this beyond the first level of interaction - killing scouts and fixing stations... what happens if humanity (totally) loses? what happens is humanity (totally) wins?

What happens is what FD wants to happen.

They are the game master. They have full control.

    Remember this isn't actually real.

Come on you can do better than that. And you know its true that most people rely on gimbled

Fighting scouts just requires AX multicannons and a good combat ship.

AX multicannons are not unlocked, you just have to... buy them.

For the interceptors : the remote flak can be bought directly, and gauss cannons are unlocked in like one evening session, then you can buy as many as you want.

So I just don't get it : 1 evening session and everything you need is unlocked/can be bought directly, yet it deserves the word "grind" ?

Some people really need to learn the sense behind the words they use.

How do you know what you need? Like from a naive ingame perspective. Without external research on the meta. I.e. just playing the game. If you actually want to try out the weapons first.

Everything is easy for captain hindsight.

Initially however, and presumably this contributes to people just noping out of guardian content, everything is just extremely obscure and without any tangible reward. And unless you're captain hindsight it's gonna be grindy. I had to unlock all 3 guardian fighters only to find out that I liked the last one I unlocked best.

But, what is gained by "requiring" any unlock/grind at all to take part in the Thargoid "narrative"? - Why twist player's arms to Engineer ships or spend "an evening session" unlocking? ie: Why put pointless hurdles in the way of "content"? Suerly the content itself should be the worthwhile bit, not the effort simply to participate?

The Thargoid content should be a clear solid invasion mechanic. You should be able to see what's happening, where, ideally by something like a Powerplay type interface. You should be able to sign up to the gameplay of your choice by undertaking tasks (as per Powerplay) in areas to affect the outcome.

At the moment, even after years to prepare, and now a year+ into this "invasion", content is fenced off (yes, Engineering and a even just a nights session is fencing it off), of minimum interest and depth (we can interact with it how with years to get mechanics ready?), and questionable in your actions actually being of any real benefit and outcome.

And an example of not needing hurdles to participate in the Thargoid invasion, and gameplay with more variety and depth - Consider if over the years leading up to the invasion assets such as CQC added fighter based gameplay had been invested into the core game. So right now we could be signing up to missions/tasks (with NPC or CMDR wingmen) to work in wings of fighters defending assets (eg: protect a damaged ship being repaired) or escorting assets (eg: escort a convoy through an asteroid field) against for example Thargoid scouts. So quite literally, you take up a task, and you holo-me into onto a platform or capital ship in a fighter, and you're participating...

At the moment we need to dedicate effort to getting modules, outfitting modules, before going to specific systems to find USS, to drop into the mini-game of your choice, hopefully with your actions/effort having some meaningful/measured outcome.

ps: Hopefully there's some sense behind the words I've used

Anyway, I stand by what I say. Fixed weapons really aren't that hard to use.

Maybe if people played the game instead of posting here demanding crutches then it wouldn't be a problem.

In any case, turrets are availble.

" I used to use gimbal like you, then I improved my skills and avoided the arrow to the knee"

sorry, I did actually rely on gimbal for a while, but then after actually stepping out of my comfort zone and not being lazy I found fixed is the only way... once you go fixed you never go back

In relation to the Thargoids, I wouldn't mind gimballed AX multi's and perhaps seeker missiles (AX pack hound would be AMAZING!!!) the rest can remain the same, the only turret that works is the AX multi (set to target only) the other turrets won't fire unless you have multi crew, so they are effectively lemons and DO NOT BUY!

    See highlight...
AS I discovered when I traded a cheap joystick for one of higher quality=greater precision.

Fixed weapons were impossible to use then and now I use them on every ship I own.

Cheap joystick for me = fixed no go. I can't imagine anyone using fixed weapons and a silly game controller <shudders>.

I am on ps4, started with the dual shock, then got a hotas. I then unlocked gauss cannons and practiced shooting scouts with them.
I am now a better player than i was.

Gauss guns? heck unlock plasma cannons.. load a corvette with those, team up with some like minded players and blow thargs away in 1 full charged shot.

Or unlock a guardian fighter just for fun... Hint with this one, when at the guardian structure... find all the power pillars first... then use the SRV to bring them all up at once so the base spawns all its skimmers in one go.
Scuttle back to your ship... then take off and plink at the skimmers until they go pop... then you can land again and power up the structure safely while collecting lots of bits.

But I want to know why the bugs are attacking worlds surrounding Sol and the core worlds of the federation and doing squat all in imperial space..... have the filthy imps done a deal and betrayed humanity....

Thargoids in the bubble seem to be chasing ships carrying Thargoid sensors. This implies they could be being actively (intentionally or maybe not) drawn in by humans.

I'd be looking at Fed megacorps before Imperials though. Entities like Sirius Corp are likely trying to do underground research on their tech, despite their knowledge that it's drawing the Thargoids in and costing millions of lives.

Or that human cost is a perk, or the point.

Sirius and other megacorps are it though, the Empire is too self-involved and enamoured of their own petty squabbles.

I'm sorry, I thought we were having a discussion about why no one cares that the bubble is burning.

When there is a goid CG that draws 1300 or fewer players (usually far less) out of the entire player base on a good week - it is clearly FDEV's plan to burn down its own game. (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing for the story.)

The human race just isn't gud enough to survive because our Ram Tah's couldn't figure out how to gimbal weapons, or make AX/Guardian weapons effective against human ships. We definitely deserve extinction.
