Drabble Short Story Contest - #281 - BONDAGE

A Drabble is a story of exactly 100 words. Come read this batch of stories and vote on them. If you like what you see why not join us next week with your own Drabble?

    01 - Frank - Return on Investment

Ben liked the ring races a little too much. He was thrilled be the spectacle of the small suped-up fighters flying through a series of rings, and betting on the outcome of each race to the detriment of his wallet.

His new master looked over Ben's body that'd been ravaged by decades of drinking in gambling dens, not seeming disappointed.

Even as he was commanded to follow he couldn't resist watching a bit of ring racing on a hollo-telly, "Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the start of the Sidewinder racing season brought to you by The Association of Slave Traders."

02 - JetsonRING - Not what I think of when I hear "Bondage"

When the ship blew up and ejected her escape pod Molly had not expected to find herself at the Achenar slave market.

The CMDR who “rescued” her had explained, not too unkindly: “Where do ye think slaves come from?” before chaining her in the brig with the other "rescues".
Apparently escape pods without rewards placed for their safe return are routinely sold to slavers to offset a CMDRs expense of rescuing "abandoned" escape pods.
New slaves are supposed to be happy with their lot given the alternative of suffocating in the few minutes after their escape pod’s power runs out.

    03 - Edith_The_Hutt - Holding

The undergrowth cut bloody scratches into his legs as Alex fled towards the spaceport. His luck had held, the overseers had followed his slave collar, tossed into a grain wagon; it’d bought him few hours to get this far, he just needed it to hold a little more.

The pilot was too busy rolling tobacco to see Alex’s rock speeding towards his skull. Alex pulled the body into a nearby ship and changed into his victim’s flight-suit. He flicked through the ship’s registry, learning his new identity.

    PILOT’S FEDERATION LICENCE
    Commander: J. Jameson
    Rank: Harmless

    His luck was holding.

    04 - JetsonRING - Wakey, Wakey . . .

Jalyn was terrified out of her mind awakening from RemLok induced sleep to the realization that her “saviors” were the dreaded insectile Thargoid invaders.
But after a hot shower, a very thorough physical examination and a hot meal Jaylyn thought to herself “it isn’t so bad” as she was escorted down a long, very clean, almost sterile hallway where other humans, clean, fed, freshly clothed like herself were performing menial tasks, sweeping, carrying boxes and pushing carts though none of them glanced up at her or met her eyes.

Then she was walked into the kitchen . . . and the screaming began.

    05 - JetsonRING - An-Ti-Ci-Pa-Tion . . .

Docked at Melville Station, strapped tightly to the big, collapsible wooden “X” chained vertically to the deck of his ship,
CMDR Orencia groaned as he struggled to control his breathing.

He blacked out momentarily as the whip opened another long, red cut across his back.
Orencia had thought he could handle the actual strikes from the beaded cat-o-nine tails,
but it was the interminable waiting between blows that was the true anticipatory agony.

He just wished she hadn’t erected the cruciform right in the canopy window. He groaned again as alternating waves of agony and ecstasy coursed through his body.

    Rise up!
No more need we kneel in servitude as abject supplicants begging for favour from our betters.
Rise up and strike with righteous blows the shackles of oppression which have for too long clouded our minds and hearts.
Throw down these false idols of wealth and privilege, abused by the self-entitled to inflict humiliation upon the long suffering and honest members of our community. Cast out the demons of snobbery and status, for too long used to taunt and deny the unfortunate of time and place.
    The time is now.
    Arise and claim your birthright.
    Cobra VI for all!

    07 - phong - Fab Four Re-assemble!

Maia Werdisma studied the communique.Quarter rations for the foreseeable future? This meant trouble, for sure.Summoning Basildon to her cabin, she began to count.
By the end of the third week, the tension has mounted considerably. Wild eyed, haggard, the crew eye one another with covetous glances tinged with suspicion, and guard their meagre hoard jealously.
Discipline slips, fights erupt, punishment is applied, discipline restored.
At dawn, the Aquarians will begin shedding their clothes and demanding entrance.Grim faced but determined, they await the onslaught stoically, uncaring of their fate.It took a while, but a bond has formed.

Question Should the Drabble contest be allowed to fade away?

Wow, as of 02/26 not a single vote for any of the stories. Maybe people do want the Drabble contest to go away . . .

    Well done Jetson.
Never mind all these lah-di-dah philosophical questions. What's the topic?I'm starving

Well, given the recent update from FDev regarding the lack of new content over the next 1 to 2 years, how about:

    Anticipation

In Anticipation of Things to Come

It's 2055. Jeremiah eyes a minuscule medallion of steak labeled “750 calories” inside the locked display case and does the math:
Three of these are half his personal weekly ration.
Between Betsy, himself and young Hamlet they receive a weekly ration of only 13,000 calories.
He takes small solace in the fact he had given Betsy a child before the Negative Population Growth law went into effect.
Some days he hates himself for feeling guilty about bringing even one more hungry mouth into this quickly starving world.
Wiping his eyes, Jeremiah moves on to the display of "synthetic" meat.

Don't think of it as just the two voters. Think of it as 100% of the votes <grin>

Congratulations JetsonRING! This polling thread has now completed its purpose. Time to move back to the main thread

Do I need to copy/paste my drabble into another thread or can you handle that for me?

EDIT: Never mind. Took care of that. o7

Like we say in the USA: Didn't like the results of the election? You should have voted!
