Thread: List of Earth-like worlds, v2

List of Earth-like worlds, v2

To continue Glyn-ie's excellent work on his list of Earth-like planets, I've made an online spreadsheet with its data and, with his permission, taken up carrying the list forward. I'm currently working on an extended version of the list, which you can find here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

This also includes plenty of new information and calculations, for example: total number of contributions for each player, number of Earth-likes counted by star luminosity and type, and some others.
If you have any suggestions for more calculations (based either on existing data or data that's not too difficult to get), feel free to share them!

Now, the important information for contributing new entries:

I recommend using EDJP for making your posts. However, if for some reason you can't use it, here are some other options:

If you elect to do it manually, please provide everything that you can to make an entry for the "Data" sheet. Specifically, the following:
• A screenshot that includes text which shows that the planet is Earth-like, preferrably a system map shot with the planet info. Of course, any other shot that includes the "Earth-like World" part will be accepted, but the planetary info could be useful for future projects.
• The system's distance from Sol
• The system's galaxy map info, the exact star type of the star(s) in the system, in the same order and way it's presented in-game

If you wish to use a web-based form to submit planets, you can do so by going to https://goo.gl/forms/1NWyfDY3XqEpLzV13. If you'd like to add your entries into a spreadsheet yourself, please go to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing and request write access. After you add stuff there, do notify me please so that I don't accidentally miss it! Also, if you'd like to have your separate sheet there that only you can edit, let me know and I'll set that up for you.

Here's an example form to aid you in making your submissions:

Planet name:
Screenshots:
Distance from Sol:
Exact type of star(s) in the system: for example, K2 VAB. In case you aren't sure how to find this, check this post.
Your in-game name: CMDR if submitting multiple planets, no need to put it next to every entry
First discovered by: optional, in case it's not you

Alternatively, if you want to be very helpful and save me a good amount of work, then you can use the following template to post your entries in spreadsheet form:

System name Planet ID Dist. from Sol (ly) First discovered by Contributed by System star(s) type Ringed EL? Moons Screenshot URL
system planet distance discoverer contributor star types ringed moons insert URL here

To use it, copy-paste and edit the following code:

System name
Planet ID
Dist. from Sol (ly)

Ringed EL?
Moons
Screenshot URL
contributor
star types
ringed
moons
insert URL here

(I'm not going to ignore entries that don't use this exact form, it's just here to make things easier both for you and for me.)

Also, if you happen to have the system's coordinates (which the game stores in the logs since the release of Engineers, and can be viewed with third-party tools like EDDiscovery) and include them in your submissions, I'll add that too.

Notes on the sheet:
• Incomplete submissions will still be listed (on a separate sheet), but will not be used in the calculations.
• If the "Contributed by" entry is empty, that means it was contributed by the first discoverer.
• Only Earth-like worlds are counted, water worlds or any other planet types are not.
• Earth-likes in inhabited systems at the time of their discovery do not count. To qualify, the system must have allegiance type 'None' on the galaxy map.
• Once I've added your post to the list, I'll notify (and also thank) you by adding rep, if I can.
• An explanation of how the rarity score is calculated can be found in this post.
• If you find any errors, please send me a PM!

Useful stuff:
• In case you somehow missed it above, MattG's EDJP is an application that'll help you make your ELW submissions much easier
• MattG has created a map of the procedurally generated systems from the list, which you can see here.
• based on CMDR EfilOne's and Jackie Silver's work, I've created a sector map of ELW-s in procedurally generated systems, which you can find here
• RMORTI has been writing an extensive guide to the Earth-like Worlds of Synuefe, you can find the thread here.
• An earlier version of the sheet, no longer being updated, can be found athttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Credits:
• Glyn-ie, for creating the original list and also for suggestions on this one
• MattG for lots of things, including the map mentioned above and providing help (ideas, troubleshooting) with the rarity score calculation
• Jackie Silver for his work on decoding the proc. gen system names and helping determine approximate in-sector positions for them
• Albreicht, for helping with maintaining the list for some time
• SpocksOddSocks, for helping with maintaining the list and looking up the regions of the non-procedural systems
• Myser, for some editing and testing
• Nicomak for fixing some distance errors and typos, as well as the first ELW maps and coordinates for over one thousand systems
• drkaii for writing up the list of nebulae
• thadius856 for plenty of help, including looking up heaps of missing coordinates and screenshotting systems found via EDDB
• For their help with filling out entries on the extended list: Akira Masakari, Allitnil, Chiggy VonRictofen, Col. Frost, Guywano, Matt Graham, Spock Oddsocks, thadius856
• Everybody who contributed entries to the list - see them on the "Contributors" sheet!

See the "Misc" sheet for the post number of the latest update.

Thanks for letting me know about this. As I said in our messages, you really don't need my permission but it was very cool of you to ask.

It'd be good to see how it develops in the future. I'm interested in seeing how the exact frequencies of the specific star types turns out myself.

WOW. Nice thread. Rep +1.
Nice to see you took the idea of glynie one step further. I like the screenshots section for proof ;-)

I've added it to EDCodex. Also created a post in my third party tools thread- the info in EDCodex is more elaborate.
Before EDCodex will be released you (like all other authors) with tools/threads in EDCodex (approx 150 atm) will receive an invitation PM with a ready made account so you can edit/enhance your entry/entries - if you deem that useful. EDCodex is being coded by biobob.

Update: Edcodex has been publicly released on the 17th of August 2015.
Release thread: EDCodex. The complete list of third-party tools for Elite Dangerous - Community driven

Thanks, both of you!

Also, a request to any commanders in or near Sol: could you tell me the distances for HD 149306, HIP 753 and HIP 43286? These can still be searched on the galaxy map. (I'm just usually far from Sol.)

And I'll post my new discoveries here in the thread too, instead of just silently adding them to the list. Here we go then, the result of an expedition roughly two weeks long: nine planets, including one orbiting a cool solitary M4 star.

Just got back from SAG A, found a few earthlikes but didn't read this thread until near the end of the voyage so I don't have the exact distances to sol, but I did screenshot the rough position on gal map so can give an estimate.

All unmarked should be FD by me, hopefully, I'll update the one's marked (?) when I get into the game as I wrote down their co-ords somewhere but have since lost the paper.

nice work. next time i find i shall contribute accordingly :-)

I made some small changes to the first post, so I'm posting them here to let you know.
First, I've added this line to the notes: "Once I've added your post to the list, I'll notify (and also thank) you by adding rep."
Second, I've decided to strike the line where if there's no "First discovered by" tag on your screenshot, I'd only list you as the contributor. Right now, with the galaxy map search bugged, it's a pain to search for the procedural systems, so I'll trust everyone's claim on this. Should any disputes arise, we'll deal with them then. (A single screenshot could settle those anyway.) Of course, if the screenshot lists that the body was already discovered by someone else, then they will be credited for it, and you for the contribution.

Also, welcome to the newest member on the list, CMDR Cliff Cliffson!

First off, I have some good news: I've found a workaround for the galaxy map search bug. It only works for systems that don't have "sector" in their names, but that's good enough for me.
For example, say you want to look up "SYNUEFAI GU-H C26-17". You paste that into the search box, and hit it a couple of times. It usually finds it for me on the third try. If it doesn't, then that's probably because you're too far away: in that case, you should just enter the region ("SYNUEFAI") first, and once it zooms there, then you can try hitting the exact search again.

Anyway, this means that I've started adding the exact star types to systems. It is going to take a good while to complete, but at least now it's getting there. (It's currently around 10% complete.) If anyone would be willing to help with this, let me know - I'd very much appreciate it, and even a little help could speed things up a lot.

I also have a couple of new entries for the list:

So there is a system with 4 Earth likes? I totally missed the post, if there ever was one.

If you have already posted a list to Glyn-ie's thread after he stopped updating his thread, does this info need to be re-submitted to this thread?

Yep. I only realized this too when I set up the calculations. It's "SPEAMOEA WU-E D12-543", discovered by CMDR TYLAR, and here's the screenshot. Remarkable, isn't it?

Not really, as I check that list from time to time, and do add things from there. Looking at it now again, I see that after updates were closed, you posted some system names there, but didn't post any screenshots showing that the planets are Earth-likes. Glyn-ie didn't require this, but I do. (Otherwise, there's too much room for error - for example, typo in the system name, typo in the planet designation, wrong planet type. These have happened before, and without a screenshot, it's much more difficult to verify things.) So, in your case, if you could post an updated version of your list, I'll add them.
