You jokers voted for the Hutton Mug. You know it will be pointless and just a huge joke. Come on and get serious if FD are searching. You won't get anything worthwhile added ever at this rate!

I can see Hutton Orbital become a PvP haven if the CG ever comes to light. Especially so if the final rare good becomes exceedingly valuable.

Following on from Vingtetun's fleshing out of the Hutton Mug, here is some more history on Sothis Crystalline Gold...

Soon after Sirius Corp established the basic infrastructure in the Sothis system, and around there prize: the twin Earthlike worlds of Sothis A5 and A6, their scientists detected traces of a previously unknown gas in the planets' atmospheres. Searching for the source of the mysterious gas led Sirius Corp to deploy submersibles and probes into the deep seas of the planets. It did not take long for undersea thermal vents to be identified as the source.

In the weeks and months after this discovery a new mystery arose. Various systems on the submersibles and probes started to fail, seemingly at random. Engineers puzzled over the origins of these seemingly random mechanical and electrical faults. The issue was eventually traces to any components that incorporated gold. The gold had been changed at a molecular level. This suprised the engineers and scientists as one of the key advantages of gold is it is highly inert. Something however was changing it. It did not take much of a leap to link this to the strange gas, now called Sothorine.

Tests showed that any gold exposed to Sothorine underwent a change to it's basic lattice producing a previously unseen Crystalline structure.

Sirius Corp shipped out additional R&D teams to start testing this new material. It quickly became apparent that there 'might' be a number of new research avenues in several technologies including power plants, frame shift drives, and weapon cooling.

Realising they has stumbled onto something very special in there new colony, Sirius Corp took steps to keep the discovery quiet whilst there teams worked on how to use the Sothis Crystalline Gold. It was decided that Sothirine processing plants would be built directly on the deep sea beds near the vents. They also started a project to try to synthesise the Sothorine gas.

Around this time the first knock on effect occurred. A few of the Engineers brought in old Moray 'Starboats'. These old vessels proved a massive boon in transferring both gold down to the sea beds and the processed crystalline gold back up into space again. Now Sirius Corp started to scour known space and buy up old 'Starboats'. These ships were refitted and brought up to date.

Today, there have been several knock on effects of from the discovery of Sothorine and Sothis Crystalline Gold:

    • Sirius Corp has approched Falcon DeLacy, Core Dynamics and even Zorgon Peterson about bringing the old Moray back into production, for both their Sothorine processing and for exploration of the many Earthlike and Oceanic worlds out in the black
    • Prospectors have stared to flood the systems around Sothis to mine gold
    • Sirius Corp are paying very high rates for escort pilots to help ferry out Sothis Crystalline Gold to there better equipped R&D labs in populated space
    • Sothorine Gas is also being shipped back to populated space as a product in it's own right
    • Bounty Hunters are finding employment as security, out the deep, as Siruis's failure to synthesise the gas means the twin worlds are the only known source of Sothorine

You've plainly not been involved since the pre-release Gamma otherwise you would have had a sense of humour and the realisation that not everything in life is po-faced and besides plenty of 'worthwhile' stuff has been added in game. There's always space for a little fun and if you trekked around some of the stations and looked at their names and those of some of the pilots out there as well you'll see some excellent (and some not so excellent) examples of humour out there....

Live with it... embrace humour... you'll be so much the better for it!

The more I think about it the more I wish I had greatly expanded on the background to include details of a rush to manufacture Moray Star boats, which ferry the Crystalline Gold from undersea processing facilities to orbit for shipping back to the bubble. EG: Give FD an reason to get some more classic ships in!
Well done on trying to add something worth while and interesting to the game.

Rules say 'shouldn't'... as Eid Leweise said it doesn't say 'can't' or 'mustn't'...

There are stations out there with multiple rare items already. George Lucas station I think has two.

Would anybody have objected if George Lucas station had a third rare item for this contest?
How about Jameson Memorial with a second rare?
    Azeban City?
    Nemere Market?
    Dunyach Gateway?
    Kreutz Orbital?

I guess if any of those were used for the competition, those entries would have been thrown out immediately.

This does remind me of the Monster Raving Loony Party led by Screaming Lord Sutch. Now that its a CG in 1.4 to get player minor factions into power it makes you wonder what idiots would do just because...they can!

This a very good RP and very good reason why sothis gold is rapidly rising now its the clear sensible choice with good RP and it supports the humanitys expansion of terraforming colonies. and the gold rush can be used as part of the ongoing exploration / new colony storyline of sirius corporation after 2 exploration goals and one batch of station. theyve found in deep space a gold rush and it will give a rush of human settlers seeking the new gold in the frontier. An old wild west gold rush, frontier could have an absolute field day with all sorts of commubitu goals, new colonies and all sorts of fun RP if this gets voted up. A mug doesnt add anything to the game

Voted for The Hutton Mug for two reasons:

    1. almost all other candidates are extremely lame

    2. the Mug isn't eligible for the competition, because Hutton Orbital already has a rare good

    - time to delete this thread and pick new shortlist

If people put more effort into actually promoting and advertising their choice of rare, rather than all the belly aching.. they might actually get one of their "better" choices picked...

it does however show no respect to people who genuinely want the mug in game to continually moan about it being any less legitimate than ANY of the other rares... sensible or not. It has the weight of public support.

So I will ask you leave our mug alone, if you want to stop it.. BEAT IT..

And any argument about it's validity is too late its in the poll.. FD can decide utterly to not bother allowing a new rare if they feel these kind of 'engagements' with the community create more pain and hassle than its worth.

So come on, quit the rubbish talk and start campaigning for your rare of choice... win this with respect and effort than moaning and nit picking.

I voted for the dream cream, but a cream could always need transportation in a mug It must be one hell of a mug.
