    Shared Online Pilot Logs

My notepad is getting hard to read, and even harder to find things. I find it useful to record what I find at various stations (terrible when you find a great delivery deal on a BBS but can't remember where you found that cargo!)

Trading tools that do all the hard work are generally frowned on by FD, but I'd be happy with a system that just kept track of prices and availability that I've already seen. In case this doesn't come, and for a bit of fun I developed this online tool:-

    Tool :- http://www.edpilotlog.co.uk
    Video showing use :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETjYF7F4NYs
Quick jump to station postcards :- http://www.edpilotlog.co.uk/Station_Photos_list.php

The search and input fields all use Ajax to find the data as you type. Easiest to start with a search for a particular system and work from there.

At the moment it allows you to see other people's findings as well, but I may turn this off or give people the option.

Could also be used to crowd-source system jump data for routing purposes.

Feel free to try it out and I welcome comments and suggestions here.

Screenshot showing individual user log (only visible to owner) which could be used for breadcrumb trail when exploring :-

Rep for this .. it looks like a well organised log.

Two or three questions .. Food for thought only though .. it looks like a useful tool to me.

Imagining myself as an independent trader (no need to imagine!!) does your ficticious Corporation pay me, in game-credits, for information that could be data-mined, for sale to other Commanders?
And can I buy information that others have data-mined for me ... ?
    Just an idea ...

Question 2. Is it open source? Could for instance I host it myself, for secured personal use?

Or finally could the log be separated out, either hosted independently or withn your database, for different, perhaps competing groups NOT to share info with people in competitor factions, say?

    +1 for a great job.

Thanks for your comments and the rep.

    1. The idea is to share data, and benefit from the input of other users whilst contributing to the updates on systems, stations, and prices. Have not thought further than that with regards to in game credits.

    2. To get the benefits of the updates by other users, you'd need to be connected to the same database, but I'd be happy to let you have a snapshot of the whole site including the database except for the other users' private data (probably do this as a separate build to be safe).

At the moment you can't actually see the Pilot Log section because this is completely restricted to the individual user. You'd need to register and add some log data yourself to see this side of things.

However, I'm considering adding flags that the user can set so that they can. further restrict what other users can see (eg. You could make the commodity prices you upload as private as well).

Gave some thought to your last question. It would not be too hard to allow each commander to decide on the level of sharing as follows :-
    1. Everyone
    2. My Faction
    3. Just Myself

However, I'd want to see that the tool was being used by enough people to make this useful, and also to gauge whether others would also want to use this option.

    Updates

    1. Added hyperlinks to the appropriate system page from the Pilot's log.
    2. Added station image upload feature which accepts jpg, png, and gif files. Note that any images will be resized so that the height and width do not exceed 500 pixels.

    Minor updates
    - added ability to export system, proximities, and station data for all users including guests.
    - added datestamp to station photos so that if stations are changed later, it's easy to see the changes if you upload a new image.

I'm aware of this thread, and yes I do intend to contribute to the crowd effort.
There is not much point in actually doing so until the star systems and stations are fixed (presumably at the gamma release).

I've added the 19000 or so systems provided by FD and made a few other changes.
Most notably, you can now benefit from other people's commodity data if they chose to share it.
Quite a few new station photos including several in Sol system.

    Took my sweet time BUT......

OP of the crowd source coordinates thread, list 2.

OP of the 3rd party tools thread, section "captains log"

Name: Elite Dangerous : Pilot Log Book
    Author: KevinMillican
Description: Elite Dangerous : Pilot Log Book. Webbased.
Website: Elite Dangerous : Pilot Log Book
    Source available:
    Thread: Shared Online Pilot Logs
    Compatible with Gamma: Yes
Comments: Contains info about systems, station/platforms in it, coordinates, commodities, Black market etc. It even has photo's of station/platform. I believe its updated from TGC (for system names and coordinates). When TGC is able to handle static information like stations etc I believe the intention is to upload that info to TGC. Not sure if it has a web-api to retrieve information from it. But it has an export functionality.

    NICE TOOL!!!!

I like it but I think to save time when you go to add a commodity it should list all known normally listed commodity's and all you have to do is click a check box for they either have or they need b/c Need is just as important as what stations have to sell. A lot of these tools people only input what stations are selling not what they want and the prices. Just saying the check box would save alot of time and encourage people to input the full sell and need data of stations. I'm and explorer myself that dabels in trading and would love to help update this Log system in my travels.
