Thread: LAVE RADIO - A podcast about Elite Dangerous

Hi there. According to our web hosts, Virgin and BT were having DNS issues which prevented some people from accessing the website. Sorry about that!

    EDIT:

If you're trying to listen to Lave Radio live at 20:30 GMT tonight and you can't access our website, you can listen to the feed at https://laveradio.airtime.pro/ and the Chat room is on Quakenet IRC at #lave-radio, using something like https://webchat.freenode.net/ We will of course also be online at http://twitch.tv/laveradio

Thanks for mentioning my tutorial around 1hr 24 min in Podcast 93. With regards to the barrel distortion (egg shaped planets effect) This is the original shader fix for this:

    https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showth...=1#post2941141

The dropbox download link is really slow / failing for me at present, but I have it downloaded at home and will re-upload for you tonight. My video mentions "adding" some files into the install dir to apply this, this is wrong, see my comments in the tutorial video. It removes the effect if they are removed and re-applies if added back in place. But the original setup needs to be done with this installer package. Fortunately it's VERY easy, load up click the big button ('locate game' I think it says? or something similar) then point it to the elitedangerous64.exe in ...\Elite Dangerous Horizons\Products\elite-dangerous-64\*here*

From there you can follow my guide to "uninstall" the shaders (there's no uninstall option per say so it has to be done by manually deleting/moving the files I mention in the video)

Just a quick comment re: your price discussion from someone who did pay for the original game and who did then pay another £30+ for Horizons.

I am absolutely blown away by the planetary landing stuff and if they did nothing else all year (except fix a few bugs) I'd be more than happy with my purchase. I've had hundreds of hours of entertainment from ED and will no doubt have hundreds more. To be honest I'm happy to bung Frontier £30 a year just to keep the game going.

All this moaning everywhere about whether it's worth it or not, and what's coming up in the next 12 months and whether we're interested in avatars (I'm not) and multi-crew (I'm not), and a pricing model that means paying for stuff they haven't developed yet ... guys! ... WE CAN LAND ON PLANETS. People appear to have forgotten how truly extraordinary this is.

I've barely had a chance to try out a fraction of all the new surface based missions and synthesis and stuff, I'm just so overawed by the fact that I can fly to any system in the galaxy (ok ok, not all systems have landable planets), find a suitable planet, explore it's surface and land ... pretty much anywhere!

You know what I did this morning?

Well, at the weekend I attended a base jumping event on Njokujinun 1 with a couple of other commanders.
    Here's a video I just finished putting together ...

For those that are about to jump ...

Anyway, this morning I was scouting around the civilized bubble looking for a new site for their next event. So basically I'm doing nothing more than checking the galaxy map, flying to various systems, making sure the local station stocks SRV's and Planetary Landing Hangars, flying down to planets I like the look of, orbital cruising while checking the horizon for BIG mountains, landing on top of them and then hurling myself off the edge like a champion downhill skier (actually I am a skier and maybe that's why I love this kind of thing so much). So, no missions, no POIs, no synthesis, no NPCs, just this extraordinary simulation of our galaxy and me. Utter bliss!

Oh, and I think I found somewhere!

    It's on FLOUSOP A3 at coordinates: -69.2887, -50.4072

It's a rocky ice world with 0.15G and, as well as being a very beautiful snow/ice covered site has a nice variety of slopes and drop-offs for beginners and experts alike.

There's also a nearish station where you can restock on SRV's and get more Planetary Hangar bays.

The mountain is about 6K high and casts a huge shadow across the landscape below as you can see here (suggested landing site circled).

Very scenic up on top with plenty of room for lots of ships to land.

And even I managed to make it to the bottom of the "red" run in one piece! (that's the peak rising up behind me)

P.S. I'm coming to Lavecon this year ... who's up for a bit of late night base jumping?

Does that also explain why the iTunes podcast service is "temporarily unavailable"?

Edit: never mind - it's available again now.

Thanks for the basejumping link in the show notes!

Did it get mentioned in the show itself or did you run out of time what with all the Casualty/ER news you had to cover this week?

    Dear Lave Radio crew,

The Spanish community is continuing with Spanish based podcast and evolving to a new format and version that will include ads and in lore "commercial breaks" similar to the ones you guys have recorded (the cryogenics company one, the lawyer firm one, the jumper one and so on). We have already scripted a few ads of our own but I would love to replicate the ones you ve created, although translated to Spanish.

Would it be ok and possible for you to pass onto me the written scripts you prepared for all the ads you use in the podcast? I d then translate them and record them in Spanish for our own podcast, if that is ok. They are really good and would love the Spanish community to enjoy them too.

Let me know via pm. Thanks.

Heya We replied on last night's show, but basically, for some of our earlier scripts we don't have the scripts any more, however you are free to transcribe and translate them.

The Speculation Engine is in full gear, what do we think we will see in 2.4? http://laveradio.com/lave-radio-episode-98/

    Thanks,

Shame about the scripts! Will you have the commercials by any chance in individual sound clips that can be shared? So to avoid to have to navigate through the longer full Laveradio episodes etc.
