It seems like everyone but you and me thinks this is a minor issue.

Add me to that minority. I'm sure some people like to have free "kills" handed out, but when I go up against an Elite Python in my Vulture, its something of an anti-climax if they just roll over like my cat when he wants his tummy tickled. :(

Never would have had this with Sarah Jane ....mumble, mumble.

So much for the estimated hour and a half. The servers went offline at 10:30 and it's now 12:17pm and still shows upgrading with nothing from FD saying why it's late?

Since Frontier decided to fund the game via sales of the game and DLCs/Seasons (as opposed to subscription), they are reliant on new features to generate revenue. Keeping people who have already purchased the game has some importance, but is lower priority - especially during the run up to the release of a new revenue generating product such as Horizons.

The financing model is also why 1.4 was buggy - for marketing reasons the XBOX version could not be released after the PC version. It could not be released before since we share the same background sim and the XBOX release was publicised at E3. The only option left was to push out the release before it was ready.

I'm not defending this decision, though I don't expect things to change unless the financing model changes.

Let's not forget that FD received a chunk of money from MS for XB1 console exclusivity. Just saying.

FWIW The red/green lights do not show on lower quality GFX settings, this was an optimization that was made a while back.
thanks kerrash, i'd previously searched for this and found nothing, just searched again and found a few things:) there is a post stating the changing the gamma settings bring the lights back with a video posted proving the fact, i'm not exactly running "low" setting (that screenshot was reduced and cropped a lot) as far as i can remember rightly but still, i would call it an "optimization" if this is the result:/
is "a while ago" since 1.4? because that's how long i've been affected for... since the reintroduction of the shaders loading wheel.
i guess i need to set up a macro explaining my situation to all those i kerrash into;)

I've just followed the new link that appeared on the ED Launcher to update my client. It downloaded a new ED Launcher...

I only just recently bought the steam version; my client and the ED Launcher is located on my 2nd drive - D:\games\steam\steamapps\elite dangerous\. The new ED Launcher I just downloaded to update the game is now saying ED will launch to the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\, and that if I install here the game client will be installed in my windows user \appdata\ folder. Also, if I choose another location, it's telling me the game will be installed in the sub-directory of the new location I choose.

Neither of these options work for me. I already have a game client in my steamapps folder?!?

What the heck do I do to update my game without downloading an entirely new instance?

Go to your library in steam

right click your game

properties

local files Tab

verify integrity of game content

It's looking like it might be a little longer than expected, but we should be back within an hour. - CMDR Falcon
