Patch Notes Update 1.6 and The Engineers (2.1) update incoming

I don't usually point out grammatical errors... but this one really annoys me.

- Increase armour piercing so they get to apply they're full damage to even larger ships than before

Another download related question for you Zac...

My Steam Account page or Frontier's Elite Dangerous Launcher page for downloading the 2.1 update file?

When the 2.1 update file becomes available for download, do Steam users have any choice in where they download the update from? Steam account page only? Or can we download it from the ED Launcher instead? Between the two, only the ED launcher even gives me update related options via the OPTIONS Pulldown Menu.

Right now I am able to use the OPTIONS/CHECK FOR UPDATE pulldown at the top of the Launcher to check status. It is currently telling me that I have the latest version, obviously due to the servers being down. I am seeing nothing update related on my Steam page at the time of this post. This is something I have always wondered about.

Back when I was trying to decide how to purchase the game for my new PC, I was told by many in the community that Steam was the way to go because updates were automated and easier to work with. Well... So far I am not impressed with Steam at least based on how this update has gone so far. For one thing, I see no sign of anything remotely related to an "Automated" option for downloading updates of my purchased games. ???

I feel totally in the dark as to what is going on right now. I have determined by the kind replies from others here that we are waiting for the servers to come back online at which time 2.1 will be available for download. However, if I check my Steam account page right now, it gives me ZERO information as to what is going on.

Anyway... Just trying to figure out what my options are, and what specific download source I should be focusing my attention on while we all wait for the DLC to become available for download.

If anyone in the community has the correct answer to the above question, feel free to chime in!

Thanks in advance!

Steam updates the launcher only. Don't know if there is a launcher update with 2.1 - nobody has really said, so I'm guessing not.

When the 2.1 patch is available for download, when you start up the launcher, it will have 'Upgrade' instead of 'Play'. Then it'll just download from wherever it downloads from - typically Amazon web host servers that FD use.

Oh! So that is how it works then eh?

Thanks for the insight into how this works. As I said before, I had NO IDEA what to expect, what to be looking for in terms of changes to what I see on my side of the process etc.

So it sounds like I should be quitting and relaunching the Steam Account app from time to time to see if the update/DLC has gone live? Or is the Steam app smart enough that if I leave it running on the machine, it will sense the update and put up an alert or something?

I am leaning towards the "Old School" approach of just quitting and relaunching the Steam app every 10-15 minutes to see if a download option has been added to replace the PLAY option I continue to see whenever I check.

Thanks a million for the info! I expect that this download is going to be HUGE! And with everyone jumping on it at the same time today, no doubt the download bandwidth is going to be limited. Last thing I want is to totally miss the point in time where the download has been posted, but I don't know it because of the skimpy level of user notification/feedback there seems to be on offer for this specific task.

You haven't though. Repeatedly. Every chance you get. Ad Nauseum.
I'll check your post when you'll come and cry here because of after 10th roll you didn't get the update you were looking for and lost all the materials !

I can't see anything about the FdL Landing Gear glitch being fixed. Does that mean I should buy a docking computer before I leave the dock in one of mine so I can re-dock when I get back?

Or maybe some people will just be happy with the variable modification they get instead of complaining unless they get the PERFECT modification. Maybe some people think that a bit of variation and some imperfect modifications give your ship a bit of a unique feel.
In other words maybe your opinion is not the only opinion out there about this.

Please excuse my ignorance. Until recently I hadn't touched the game for several months and have not followed what's been going on.

I am curious what is added to base game, without Horizons. I've been here since beta so please don't do what some guy did on facebook and tell me I'm being entitled. I'm simply asking what is new for non-Horizon owners.

I read that a lot of changes mean that those without Horizons will be at a disadvantage in combat, even against NPCs. Is this true? Could someone be kind enough to give me a rundown on what those without horizons will see change in the base game?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't think I will ever get Horizons, I just haven't because I hadn't been playing. I probably will get it at some point. But I'm just concerned about this possible imbalance.
Thanks

There is a change log in the OP.

It has separated 1.6 and 2.1 in regards to the big bullet point features.

The change list is HUGE even for just 1.6 people without horizons - the changelog is in the first post. go grab a cuppa and a sandwich and have a sit down, it'll take you a while
