16.01 Update Notes

@Fizzatron
Woah, dangerous talk that...
;) I don't know, it's evident that there's some hackery going on at the moment with the game. If there was a hack that could spawn fleet carriers then technically one could imagine that that could form a DDOS vector if they were all set to jump at once..

But..
However, i was thinking that players may have been spamming the jump server. Somebody said that players were getting lower jump times if tried, tried and tried again. This could effectively spam the jump server where FD have had to put in a form of mitigation, effectively forming a queue... which is very British btw.
Same person said it no longer works but old habits die hard.
I've also noticed that ppl seem to use their FC's for even short range jumps that a ship could easily do. They were never intended for that.
Anyway, just a theory and I'd just add that there has been a clear correlation between player activity and jump issues over this CG.
This is more likely though... o7

AWS costs are based on many used resources. Bandwidth used (or rather data transferred) is one.

A larger one is the compute used (number of virtual server instances).

Why are people attributing it to "downscaled server resources" vs "same server resources but more people owning FCs?"
Because DOOM. Look, some day at some point, the game will have run its course and end. It might be next week, next year, or in five years. Nobody really knows. Personally, I will be waiting for all the "See? Told you! I was right! Game was doomed!" posts when it finally happens. If you keep repeating the inevitable, you're bound to be right at some point.

Until that happens, I'll just enjoy what we have.

Why all these posts about docking suddenly? Auto-launch has always been bugged. Might be worse, but it's definitely not new.

Maybe because the patch notes originally expected it to be fixed, though it was removed after feedback.

The advanced docking computer smashed my Python again the station wall when trying to leave Kummer Acropolis.

I feel a lack of commitment when it comes to implementing announcements.

Until that happens, people will post DOOM and "See? Told you! Game isn't dead!" in every thread.

If you enjoy it, then great. The problem is that for a long time the game development shows signs of winding down. There's no hope in sight now for it ever evolving. This "DOOM" you refer to doesn't mean that it's going to vanish tomorrow. It means that it's not going to get better, but rather worse, with fewer and fewer resources. That's what doom means - no hope.

Not the proper thread, but hoping that someone takes notice. It seems like plotting a jump and then entering supercruise makes the ship target some other system instead of the next system in your route. Not sure if it happens all the time or exactly when it started. I suspect it started occurring with update 16, possibly with the server tweaking a while back, or maybe it actually started with the CG. It's also a bit more complicated, but I haven't fully studies the problem and when and where it occurs.
This has always been a symptom of carriers jumping in to/out of the current system. Your list of possible targets gets rearranged when you enter/exit supercruise and the index of the one you have selected doesn't update, so you end up targetting something unexpected.

(This used to drive AX pilots nuts during incursions, thankfully we don't have to worry about it anymore because it's not possible to move carriers into alert/invasion/control systems.)

I do enjoy the game and that is as you say great.

If the game development does come to a stop that would be a shame but I enjoy the game for and as it is not for what it may become.

The latest bit of evolution in the game has been the Thargoid war which to be honest I could have done without, so the thought of further evolution worries me more than it not happening.

But of course you are right in a relatively short* time everything will come to an end.

*In cosmological terms that is.

I didn't see anything in the patch notes about plotting hyperspace routes using FSD injections being fixed. Is that still broken?

Still not broken - working as intended (y)
Forgive me, I cannot tell if you're being deliberately obtuse or serious, because while I don't have time today to log any meaningful playtime, I did however have enough time to quickly log in and test my query.

I've therefore verified that the problem is in fact NOT fixed. I must express my confusion that this issue was not resolved in the patch, given that it worked just fine in Patch 15 (with one minor inconvenient bug).

Unless you're serious, and this IS genuinely intended behaviour... in which case I would argue that's a load of rubbish and it should change immediately.

The point is that you don't "plot a route" using the FSD boost - you have to manually select the destination. Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean.
