2.3 dev update feedback mega thread

Let me ask this question to all that are really afraid that immersion-crowd is going to spoil the insta-transfer.

Why would it be bad if you had an option to choose a different character (looks and name only, a crew version of yourself) when remote joining crews instantly and go as yourself upon meetup?

Now, also think a while before replying :)

Nothing as it is. But others are saying that there should be no benefit for you to play on osmoene else's ship.

Given that there are going to be trillions of "people" on these thousands of worlds, and there are only some thousands of options of avatar looks, what is the problem with having someone who just happens to look a lot like you appear on someone's ship?

It's work that really only patches over the idea that you might have to role play.

It's not fear of the idea. It's confusion over why.

Is it possible to first test, what FDev have in their minds and then argue like monkeys? You all make yourself very ridiculous, you do only have a litte Text with is a preview of ONE Feature of 2.3 and start nasty discussions! Please stop, its horrible, its embarrassing, ist counterproductive at this point!

I get the instaplay solution of Teleprescence but maybe there should be some advantage to the "physical" team ups .

There is. The way it is you will be far more effective an extra in any non-noob ship winging up with them rather than being a gunner or SLF fighter pilot. But you have to travel to take advantage of that better mechanic.

Then why am I flying a ship?

Why aren't we all just phoning it in from a cubicle planet-side and complaining about the new company pension policy around the watercooler?

I also think people underestimate how many people playing the game have read the franchise books or studied the lore in depth...

You may be more effective

But you will earn considerably less money!

This proposed system is such an easy method of credit transfer to new players that IMO we may as well implement that too! "Oh hey mate come sit on the bridge of my conda for a few hours while I earn a few mill for ya, yeah just sit with your PC on, I'll do all the work, turn on Netflix and watch a movie, you'll go straight from your sidewinder to a vulture, enjoy!"

This thread is completely useless for now. We don't even reach beta stage for now, so....

I know, but there were topics about this popping up all the time, soI guess the mods decided to turn all those little cesspools into one huge cesspool.
I like it. It makes it much easier to ignore all the pointless anger.

Because the whole point of the game is we are all playing as a character that enjoys flying a spaceship (if you don't why are you playing this game?).

I enjoy flying a flight simulator (Microsoft and Prepar3D), however, if I had the money I would learn to fly and pilot a small plane because that would be fun.
I enjoy car racing games, however, I prefer driving a real car.
I enjoy seeing photos and videos of places around the world, however, I would rather visit those places in person.

I enjoy playing Elite: Dangerous, however, I would love to fly a real Cobra MkIII but sadly they don't exist yet. :p

If this is possible to have telepresence and android crew I want to stay on station and control my ships remotely, I want to be able to switch between my ships instantly - I said that many times, in many topics, but no one respond to this. Maybe this time? :p

And you won't get that.

Live with it.

Okay, I was perplexed when I agreed with Gluttony Fang the other day and repped him, I was disturbed when I agreed and repped a StiTch post today. Now I've agreed and repped Windscreen...........My friends, I hear the faint sound of hell freezing over and the gallop of four horsemen......

It must take one hell of a potential screw up on Frontier's part for some of us guys and gals to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

Seriously the things I'm reading again and again on this are:

- Multi-crew is pointless, FD shouldn't add it.
- Commander Creator is pointless, FD shouldn't add it.
- Ship Launched Fighters are completely pointless, FD shouldn't have added them.
- Passenger Missions are worse than pointless, FD shouldn't have added them.
- Every update we've had since 2.0 is pointless and shouldn't have been put in.
- None of this is in the DDF. (Which is patently false, by the way; most of it is in the DDF, but just looks different since the original concept, which is perfectly reasonable)
- All of this ruins the game completely by adding things to it that I don't want to do.

But even after all that I still see loads of the following:

- Wings are pointless, FD shouldn't have added them.
- Planetary landings are pointless, FD shouldn't have added them.
- SRVs are awful, FD shouldn't have added them.
- Skimmers are exploitable, FD shouldn't have added them.
- Powerplay is pointless, FD should never had added it.
- CQC is pointless, FD shouldn't have added it.

And after all that, 1) I feel like I've pretty accurately summed up the entire forum, and 2) What game do you actually want to play anyway if you don't want most of it?

Who has said anything like that? The main complaint is that, if its only use is going to be combat, then why bother adding it? Plus there is the concern about potential imbalances with how you join multi-crew. All that other stuff you claim is pure fiction.

Ah, right.

Because we enjoy experiencing getting our canopy blown out by a random pirate 5 jumps from the next station with a 7 minute air supply.

That's why we fly them physically. I get ya.

Live with it.

If I can move instantly from my current ship to your ship 150ly away I see not reason why I can't instantly move to my other ship that is 150ly away using the same mechanism.

If we are pretending telepresence then that is consistent, and it is also consistent with paying people to move physical ships, or you can move it yourself still if you wish.

I think what a lot of people are after is some sort of consistency in the game world.

Personally I'd go for more "realism" as happily as more "gamey" I honestly don't care! But I want things to be consistent, for me it is the jarring differences that ruin immersion the most!

Simply have it so that you cannot join or leave another commanders ship during combat. And have the commander have sole control on whether to deploy hardpoints of their own ship.

You DO know that the forum isn't a person, but a place where many different people write stuff, don't you?

Of course... it's the adrenaline buzz which you can't get by just sitting in a safe environment somewhere. :)

I think we need more limitations to prevent abuse. Crimes that stick to the perpetrator, needing to be docked to initiate the transfer, & some kind of range limit would all be moves in the right direction.

Its just a shame they have decided to drop Tactical & Engineer from the list of roles players can fill. It really limits the enjoyment value, even for combat centric types.
