2.3 dev update feedback mega thread

No. I wont just get over it.

If you want immersion, fine. Have it. But dont pick and choose. Either lets Immersion, or not.

Its funny. Everyone is all for immersion, when it keeps players with limited free time from participating in things to the degree that those who live in Elite are able to do. But when its convenient even for those who already use Elite as a second life, then hey, forget immersion. Lets go with convenience.

Funny how that works...

Exactly. I just wish these people were forced into a Full Immersion variant. You asked for it, you got it. Maybe then they would understand how inconvenient and frankly unfun they make the game for those with limited play time.

Except that isn't how it works is it, every game, every bloody game ever made, including the most realistic of sims do not have 100% immersion and reality, wanting to have more rather than less is not a crime.

I get to play maybe 6-8 hours a week, consider you assumptions blown out of the water.

All I want is some kind of whitelist of trusted CMDRs allowed to take the helm of my ship. ._.

That would be great. I probably will only Multicrew with friends and family anyways. I'm not big into doing it with strangers.

I wish they would give us the option to let a friend take the helm so that we can try out the Gunner job. As the captain of any respectable ship, you should know how to do all of the jobs. Not just on any ship, but on YOUR ship. And it seems we'll never have that option.

The reason i voted for a delay had NOTHING TO DO WITH IMMERSION. As I said get over it. It's finished with.

I have limited free time, but have zero issues with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ship transfer was voted to have timed stransfer to avoid folks flying in Asps around and summon their FDLs on demand circumventing the very idea that some ships have been designed to have low jumprange.
It has nothing to do with immersion, only practical gameplay.

No, you're absolutely right. Well, there were lots of points, but that was the most common. It was a general poll. And gained a lot of comments one way or the other.

But Max is going totally bursar because this new insta-port of your pilot from his ship over to someone else's because if it's not applied everywhere else, it's just ridiculous breaking of the game immersion and it's all just random stuff for random reasons.

Which he showed he missed in the post he made, being, as it was, a complete acceptance of how some things were done as part of the gameplay (cargo going from one station to another by ship) but were ignorable elsewhere (cargo instaporting into your ship and then out again). That he doesn't mind that there's illogical things in it (fuel instant refill) because it would not be game play to wait for a reasonable time for refueling to finish. During which, mind, he could be selling his cargo, looking for the next trade route in the galaxy map, checking the message boards, and all that gameplay stuff while he waits to do the thing he's waiting to do: leave.

But for some completely hatstand reason, he's totally not accepting that this instaport to someone else's ship for multicrew is for gameplay, so live with it.

So please pass that on to the likes of Max and so on who are going bananas over this telepresence thing.

Same here, my time varies, some days I get an hour a night, I don't care about delayed transfer, ship will be there tomorrow...who cares? Plenty to do in my multi-role mission runner that can also last in a CZ till it runs out of ammo and has as much cargo space as an Asp X....if people don't want to wait for a ship they should just either plan, or take a ship that can do everything!

After all it now takes half the time it did before ship transfer....and you can do what you want while you wait! So that's still a massive reduction in time spent moving ships! From lugging my Vulture across the bubble or my FAS to now dialing them up when I want and having good times in my conda meanwhile....I don't see the problem people have!

Hey up Brett & Co :)

If this is the new place for feedback/questions on 2.3 then here's my questions again:
•Can players use the same computer for multicrew? Using split-screen or multi-screen? This would be good for playing on a console in front of the TV with friends
•Will Steam's family-sharing feature be enabled for multicrew? This could be a separate launch option like Arena is.
•What's to stop a player who is about to die in their own ship, switching to multicrew in another ship as a "permitted" combat-log?
•Can we have 2 player crew and 1 NPC, so 3 in total? Please tell us the maximum number of crew seats (inc NPC) for each ship in the game.
•If a ship has multiple players in the crew and an NPC, can the pilot still launch a fighter and leave an NPC in charge of the helm? So there could be a player gunner, 2 players in fighters and an NPC at the helm?
•If there's no NPC can the pilot launch a fighter and give temporary helm control to another player? Or let the basic AI fly the ship so that two players can fly SLFs at the same time?
•So the gunner essentially has 4 fire buttons? 2 normal and 2 "quick-slot"? What's the difference? What does "customize with modules" mean? Does this just mean allocate weapons/scanners to the fire groups for those buttons, like normal?
•Who decides which weapons/scanners are mapped to the gunners fire buttons? The pilot or the gunner? Or are all turreted weapons automatically assigned to the gunner? What's to stop the pilot mapping turreted weapons to their 1 and 2 fire buttons?
•Who controls defensive utility mounts like ECM, heat sinks and chaff? Do these remain in control of the pilot? Can both the pilot and gunner operate them?
•Can the gunner also use discovery and detailed surface scanners, or is that still limited to the pilot only using them straight ahead?
•Can a single player switch to the gunner role and leave an NPC or basic AI in charge of the helm?
•Can NPC crew be the gunner? And use the quick-slot fire buttons?
•Does the extra pip increase available power from the powerplant, or does it just allow more control over distribution? Can NPC crew use this?
•Please explain how ship re-buy premiums are affected? You mean the overall re-buy premium is reduced for each player crewmember that is present? Or that player crewmembers have to pay a reduced premium? Why would a player crew member have to pay a premium at all?

And finally, what's happening re exploration and scanning after all that excellent feedback we have you post 2.2?

Cheers :)

There is no real problem. I am beginning to believe that when some people call their ship, they just sit in the station waiting doing nothing.

Man wish I had the time you had. Last I played was on Tuesday for a few hours, may get some time to play tomorrow if I'm lucky.

Yep, between when I got home from work & when I had to get to bed, I think I got about 1 hour of play time in......but boy did I make it count. Made over 500,000Cr in bounties & picked up about 20t of escape pods & wreckage components for the Fedmich Community Goal. If I'm that keen to Multi-crew, I'll try to tee up a meeting place with my friends to crew up.....though I'd personally rather have an NPC to man my guns, & an extra SLF :p.

Uh, max, this is you, right?

We know you can't, but there is no logic to it. It is inconsistant and makes a mockery of the ingame lore. Why can't I telepresence into another one of my ships elsewhere in the galaxy and fly it to wherever I want to.

I know it isn't being implemented, but if this unlimited range telepresence crap gets implemented it makes the game lore a complete joke. It's laughable that anyone could come up with such an awful system.

I can live with the telepresence with your ship fighter as it only has a 30km range. Now all of a sudden it is unlimited. I should be able to telepresence into my fighter and send my ship back to a station via the NPC and keep it nice and safe, or the go somewhere else safe.

It needs to be consistant otherwise it just looks cheap and lazy. If this is how it will work, this will be my first major disapointment with the game, because it is just bad.

I can live with it, but I don't really want to have to live with it, I want it consistant.

The game isn't consistent. Breaking the feeling of a game having a set of physical laws. Immersion.

You REALLY can't see where you're complaining about "Immersion" in the game here??? Srsly?

Sure, say you are OK, that you'll live with it, whatever, it's a game. You don't need to try to tell a porkie-pie in the attempt.

Arguably the best asset in the game is the galaxy itself, and this is extremely underused. Exploration has almost none existent gameplay which amounts to nothing more than jump and scan. It's a testament to the quality of the galaxy, that so many people still enjoy exploration regardless. Yet update after update Frontier do not flesh out exploration or offer greater depth of gameplay.

The story is true right across the board, from trading to mining. From the lack of wing missions, to poorly executed smuggling.

The problem with multi-crew has long been foreseen hasn't it (and I seem to remember you pointing this out a year or more ago). Without a complex game with deep gameplay, anything added on top cannot amount to much.

Multi-crew, by the very nature of the current game can only be a shallow experience. There are no deep mechanics to hook into for multi-crew to bring benefits to trading, exploration, mining, smuggling, pirating, deep space rescue or indeed anything else. There are no roles beyond "gunner" that Frontier can possibly offer...simply because they have not fleshed out the rest of the game.

I still have hopes that one day, Frontier will bring their attention back to each career path and make then deep and involving experiences. Again, it's a testament to the galaxy itself that these limited shallow careers hold any water at all. Imagine the same gameplay we currently have but limited to 2 or 3 star systems! The scale of the galaxy goes a long way to hide the games lack of depth. Yet with multi-crew it has become glaringly apparent.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game. I'm always grateful for what Frontier have provided here, it's been an experience unlike any other game for me. And I am also keenly aware of just how much the people at Frontier love this game. I know first hand that they have extremely deep passion for Elite. At times, it's possible to see that the problem with Elite isn't really with the developers themselves, but rather that they appear to have their hands tied, and are given extremely limited resources. And that really does come back to your last point about the game being done with limited resources. I've no idea if that is actually true - but it certainly feels that way.

You really

The issue isn't purely immersion or gameplay (though both are factors). One of the main issues for having consistent rules to the in game universe is that it allows you to think creatively within those confines. When the rules are constantly broken and there's no more consistency then you are down to memorisation, rather than creative planning. It's a huge mistake every time this occurs in a game and especially so because it is entirely avoidable.

Amazing post by OA, I missed that.

Perhaps the problem with multicrew isn't how it's designed, but more how it further exposes the unfinished and shallow mechanics underneath.

Interesting comment about 'hands being tied' too.

Every single person who voted AGAINST immediate ship transfer should have ALL OF the following added irrevocably to their game:

-30 Second wait time for docking clearance
-20 second Full stop in space for ship scan, PRIOR to entering a station.
-2 minute wait time for refuel, plus/minus RNG seconds per ton of fuel, to immersion/realism
-5 minute delay to offload cargo
-5 minute delay to load cargo
-5 minute delay to take on/debark passengers
-30 second wait time for departure clearance
-10 second wait time for coupling/decoupling at docks
-Mandatory pre-flight check before EVERY SINGLE TAKEOFF, ever.

You wanted your immersion. Fine. Have it. ALL OF IT.

Wow your are especially sour tonight there are lots of reasons why ship teleportation is bad not just immersion. That said IF (big IF) there was stuff to do whilst ship was been loaded/refueled/repaired i woukd be fine with some time being taken, probably not an exactly realistic time but just a small "nod" to realism. Even in dcs flight sim, a game which takes 30 mins to start your plane and do pre flight checks if you do it propely you do not have to wait for repairs tho.

Of yours your post was a toys out of pram whine and was not really uo for debate, but you bought it up so there is my 2p.

Right now tho, unlike ship transfer where you CAN do stuff in your ship whilst you wait, there is currently nothing we could do whilst loading etc therefore it needs to be instant.

Requoting this again.

Wow your are especially sour tonight there are lots of reasons why ship teleportation is bad not just immersion.

Where?

Notkidding here. The only ones were "I don't like it", "I hate the idea" and the expansions were all variations on a theme of "Well, if we can to it here, why can't we do it in this other situation? It has to be consistent!".

I'm not seeing any good reasons. Not unless you're admitting they had a point to say in that quote you made: if you're worried about immersion, why not this?. The only good reasons are to why it should be done this way.

But I'm getting a MASSIVE sense of deja vu here.

You mean that some of the people have had "lots of reasons" for *criticising some other feature than telepresence*, don't you. But check back the thread of comment from the source there. It' all about TP and "Why not use it here?". Not criticisms like "What about running a second game in a window just to get the buffs?" or "Why should there be more cash out of nowhere?". None of which, yes, are about immersion, *but they aren't about TP either*.

The only salt is the sweat on your brow from the mental gymnastics you had to perform to start that post off with.

There were two others who complained about a post and quoted the post, but if you followed the thread (and who follows a thread 900+ posts long, eh? Safe bet nobody will be checking up, right?), you'd find that they were being, well, ecumenical with the truth...

And now you try it.

Heck, maybe you didn't go from SOURCE to SOURCE to check the history of the post, its genesis. If so, go back and check. It's important before making a conclusion. REALLY important.

there is currently nothing we could do whilst loading etc therefore it needs to be instant.

Maybe it didn't turn up for you in time to see it, but if so, here goes:

#921:

I wonder how the Commander Creator will be implemented.

Will the game force us to use it at login ?

Will we have a default random/static avatar if it's possible to bypass it?

Will it be possible to use again and again and change looks as we please?

If so can we change Commander name too?

Could we create presets to switch between?

Could we maybe have some supporting cast to our main role in form of alternative characters?

Different avatar for CQC maybe? Would be nice to see faces on the scoreboard in CQC.

Different avatar for Multicrew to get rid of insta-jumping our main character. ;)

Will there be micro-transactions from the start? I suspect suit colours but would rather like different suits.

And maybe masquerade suits or T-shirts and funny hats for those that don't give a damn about immersion ;)

Why those people who think that the magic teleportation for multicrew is unimmersive, cheat, no friendly go both to the same station and then use the menu to crew the other ship?

I think this multicrew has FAR WORST things to talk about like the lack of inspiration, development, mechanics, ambition.

People, we are talking about a pilot, slf and a gunner. Thats it, thats all the "MULTICREW" we're going to have.

Its like complain about graphics when 95% of the game is a placeholder.

Well, yeah, FD is slowly moving us there, but for some it's too slow.

They compared ED to building a house in 2014. I remember that analogy...

Rooms on the first floor are unfinished, half of the walls lack proper finish and color and you see concrete almost everywhere; there's a sofa in the largest room that has no legs and seating pillows, just a frame; there's only one bland type of grass in a huge garden outside, and the stove in a kitchen only works on wood.

But we have already a second floor full of almost empty rooms and now we'll be shown an attic as well.

Hopefully we won't be sleeping on that bed with no mattress for much longer. We're sleeping on that for 2 years already!

:D
