Massively underwhelming. What happened to that old post?
Michael Brookes during a Reddit AMA,
Multicrew will allow a team of up to 4 players players to assume roles (Pilot, Gunner, Navigator and Engineer) aboard the same ship.
Multicrew will not include the ability to walk around your ship(s).
Helm – Pilot & Captain the ship and control fixed weapons - Nothing new here.
Fire control – Turret movements - Tick.
Tactical – Countermeasures, shields and sensors. -Not happening
Engineering – Power management, repairs. - Not even close.
It seems to me that what we've ended up with is a lazy, narrow-sighted attempt to keep the promise of multi-crew without realising it's full potential at all. This would only appeal to a very thin slice of combat-oriented players offering NOTHING to traders, explorers or just ships such as the Cobra III/vulture with no means of launching fighters and turrets. Do FD honestly think it's going to be fun for people to sit on a ship hitting wake scanners and KW scanners? No attempt seems to have been made to add features to make the most of this concept. Given the scope of people's imagination on this theme I would have hoped that FD could have picked up on some of it. Where are the interesting power management mini-games, detailed ship schematics or at the very least some kind of FTL-esque view screen?
This was a very anticipated feature and ultimately was supposed to help it win over the people in the Star Citizen camp. Unless big changes are made to multicrew this will remain a big disapointment for many Elite fans.
If FD handle the FPS (walking around on ships and stations) and atmospheric planet landings in this less manner I wouldn't be surprised if Star Citizen ends up robbing them of their player base entirely.
