News 2.3 Dev Update

true, this does have a stink of PR disaster if the networking is as shaky as it is now.
Not a very good sales pitch
''experience disconects like never before !''

To be honest I trust FD to get it right in terms of conection , I have had no issues so far. but I hope its going to be the same for everyone else , because not everyone is so layed back with bugs than I am (but then again , not everyone is so (AltWord that means hole found in a persons bottom , that is not against the swear filter) about lore than me)

I'd like to see CMDRs at the same station before they crew up with their in-game personas...I wouldn't mind other cmdrs taking over NPC hires if they want insta-crewing. How crime and punishment are doled out in the dev update - sort of exploitable - reflects a need IMV to re-work C&P across the board.

If the immersion guys are gonna ruin this multicrew system then I will simply stop playing the game completely and will spread the word on how disgusting this game is.

If you do NOT like the instant "telepresence" then you are FREE to meet with your friend and keep your immersion. Just because you can, doesn't mean that you have to. Stop ruining the game for all the other players just because you have 24 hours per week to pour into this game. Most of the players have lots of other stuff to do like going to work, care for their families and also shockingly play other games. Some people are lucky to even play few hours per week. Elite's gameplay just doesn't ALLOW easy and swift meetup with your buddies and that's why "telepresence" has to be a thing for the multicrew to work.

It does sound great , but instant magic-pilot transfer is crazy. even with ''telepresence'' makes no sense.

If its telepresence then why even fly a ship at all? why even do anything when you can teleport a fake body billions of lightyears away.
In lore we have a max range on fighters? is that just because they are cheap? do bigger ships have a better telepresence function?

I got into elite and paid a lot of money because of how immersive it was , because of how intelligent it felt.

2 years ago I thought the same. Now though it's just an arcade game with some mild sim aspects to it. Not bitter - it is what it is.

the cutter will finally get some deserved attention. It will be the fastest ship for its class, with the biggest shields and most powerful weaponry, that will be able to shoot from any direction. yey!!!!

I think you are hoping for too much ... if the idea is that all combat profit gets duplicated to all CMDR's on the ship, why add some kind of "you did x-amount of shooting so you get X amount"? - that is not going to happen, really.

No one adds any multiplier, but adds simple detection do you contribute to kill. Simple as that.

I have to say, I don't think I've ever been this disappointed with update news before.

Practically everything I've dreamed of doing with multicrew—long range group expeditions, stranded SRV rescues, basically anything with any substance whatsoever—none of it is possible with this.

They're doing exactly what I feared they would: shallow, instant transport for nothing more than a quick little boost in combat.

Sad.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. While I'd never say any game development is easy or cheap.

This is the easy and cheap way of doing this, I'm utterly astounded (probably shouldn't be anymore) that this is how it's being done.

Firstly, they just cut out one of the roles entirely, another of the roles is doing nothing, except flying a fighter ship (what is the point in this? just bring an eagle and wing up....) oh right, you get to play with a single magical pip, ok, I forgot, that totally makes it a worthwhile role.

Secondly, lore got thrown out the window.
With wings, we meet up with each other in our ships.
Then we fly together.
No one really complains you can't teleport your ship to your friends to play in wings.

So just make it so you can use a shuttle or pod or something to move from ship to ship, re use the limpets which already leave and enter the cargo hatch and have all the animation stuff sorted, hell, re-use the damn graphics if it would be that huge a deal to make a new pod asset.

Then it functions the same way wings do. No magic teleporting.

At this point, the lore may as well be that no one pilots a ship, everyone is in a bunker/station somewhere using teleporesence to pilot their ship.

And at that point, we should be able to hack into other ships and take them over remotely.

What happens when we can get out of out ship (I honestly doubt this will ever happen now) ?

Can telepresenced crew leave the ship too? walk around with us?

This is just breaking future design and gameplay possbilities, or making everything into some hideous magic fantasy instead of the sci-fi setting it's always been.

Screw that.

Welcome to FD updates.

Already for some time concentrated only in combat and pvp.

I really hope that you can only hop in to someone's ship only if the ship is docked at station or there are NPC fighter pilots on board.
That would be a decent compromise.

But I dont think that will happen , I think its magic unlimited range body spawning tech for everyone

I understand the reason being that multicrew needs an incentive to play, but how does the extra pips when there's more people and the 360 degree KWS and missiles work, and more importantly, why can't we use those normally?

Multiamazing FD. The updates keep coming. Looking forward to this and the alien storys....whoop

Can the cmdr stand up!? [wink]
I do think we need a ship with fighters that is asp size-ish with good jump range please.

Co-operative multiplayer. Now we just need something to shoot at...

Topic aside - is this really how we treat things we don't like in games? Really? What about when space legs come and those will require to fly to certain station instead of teleporting? You will throw tantrums too?

It is not about who has most time to play game. I play game and I want immersion - I don't want teleporting, please no. I am accepting telepresence as solution as we don't have space legs and FD clearly have put certain limits so roles that doesn't require physical interaction are supported with this mode. But overall I think both sides are wrong here - FD sees this as cool addition to CQC and other quick MP features. That's why it is limited. That's why you can't helm ship of other commander. Because it would be open to exploits.

I can get that.
I still think elite has depth , I still think it has more than most.

Yet in some areas it seems to be scared of it.

I hope they will find a way to please everyone , or I just find that ''one'' game... but so far every game seems to be going full casual , even SC as they droped the one feature that made me go ''wow'' manual cargo lifting is no longer a thing , so I dont even look at it because other than its like elite but with space legs (something elite will get)

Seems like it could be fun.. i have some friends who want to play but jave rubbish ships and are ages away. I can see haveing them as crew would be nice. I dont care about the inta transfer its not like you can move your ship to them.. you have to go back to yours if you want to play on your ship. Ship transfer needed time delay cus it would trivialise travel and fsd range of ships. This does not it just add fun and flavor.

My concerns are the walk away from ypur crimes thing. As well as being half way thrugh a fight 1 v 1 and suddenly its a 1v3 against a ship with 4 pips to systems and 4 to wepons! Plese dont let this be a during combat thing. And pkese let me see that its a multi crew ship so i can make the call as to wether i want to risk fighting a hidden wing of fighters and copilot distibutor monkeys.

Also.. will chaff still make the turrets mess up when a player is 3dr person aiming them?
