But why?
The ONLY reason a small ship being less powerful than a large ship is an issue is because it means one player is subsequently superior to another because of the ship they are in. Because an Eagle CMDR can't do Jack against a Corvette CMDR, THAT's the imbalance, and that's the root issue behind ship imbalance.
A ship imbalance in itself is irrelevant without taking the crew count into account because that crew have a more powerful option anyway, that being fly as a standard wing.
Complaining a big ship is now more powerful with 2 players feels a bit like not being able to see the wood for the trees to me.
Personally I think multicrew is merely going to exacerbate the imbalance we've had since Wings was launched. The imbalance between those who have the friends in-game, or like playing group-based multiplayer vs the lone wolf type player who enjoys playing in a multiplayer environment, simply not as part of a group, or maybe their friends simply don't play this game and they dislike grouping with randoms. The lack of an NPC alternative to both wingmen and now multicrew simply results in them being disadvantaged further, and so that imbalance will be more pronounced. Add to that the likelihood (in my opinion) that multicrew (in the 2.3 form announced) will end up being used less than Wings once the novelty wears off and people realise flying their own ship is more fun than crewing someone else's and I just can't fathom why an NPC alternative to both wingmen and multicrew hasn't been higher on the agenda - EVERYONE would benefit from an NPC alternative instead of only a fraction of the playerbase benefiting from wingmen now and multicrew when it comes.
Edit: that said, maybe the 2.4 'surprise' will be the NPC option? I sure wouldn't mind if it is.
