I am now un-misconcepted, I never knew. Every day....It is a common misconception that you must have a DSS installed to do surface scans and get first discovery.

I'm sure others have pointed it out; this is an excellent and comprehensive guide, but the only criticism I have is the naming of the scans. They should probably be changed to follow the ingame naming convention:
- Level 1 Scan (BDS/IDS/ADS - Honk)
- Level 2 Scan (Basic Surface Scan)
- Level 3 Scan (DSS - Detailed Surface Scan)
This will save a lot of confusion
How much is a scan on Sag A* in 2.3? And how much is it currently in 2.2? Is there any point in me rushing to do the scan, or should I wait until Mid-April when 2.3 comes out? I'm currently about 5000ly from Sag A*, I'll be heading back to the bubble afterwards. I'm hoping I will earn enough from it to outfit a decent exploration vessel so I can join the search in the Formadine Rift.
No, the thresholds haven't changed. However, starting from 2.3, only half of the credits you got for exploration profits will count towards rank progression. So if you need 17.5 million Cr to advance to Ranger now, you're going to need 35 million Cr after 2.3, but with the increased prices. So it'll be much quicker.Does anyone know if the thresholds for Explorer Ranks have changed in 2.3?
Do I still need to get 17,500,000 in exploration rewards to get Ranger rank?

Scratch what I said, the upcoming release changelog removed the line about half of the credits counting towards rank progression. We'll have to test in 2.3 to see if that's really changed or just an error in the changelog. No, the thresholds haven't changed. If it is changed and working as intended, then you'll only need 17.5 million to advance to Ranger, with the new prices.
To be clear, any data scanned prior to the 2.3 release will not give you the increased v2.3 payouts?
