Patch Notes Update 2.3 The Commanders - Changelog

Anyone failing to download and getting the message "Failed to read from responce stream. Network connection closed"?

I just assumed volume was involved at first, but it's still happening today.

Ah. Switched to "alternate download method" under Options in the Launcher. Worked. First time I've had to do that.

With all the nerfing done, now it will take months to achieve the higher ranks. :/ I wonder how long it will take a new comer to get a Corvett? Two years? It might deter new players to continue.

Secondly, I find the game being a bit too focused on space battles and combat. Trading doesn't pay that well, especially not after constantly being attacked by engineered Anacondas and Fer-de-lance with higher ranks. You have to be equipped to battle full scale, and trading only an afterthought. Too bad. Especially when it costs more to pay for the ship that's destroyed than the credits earned through the trade. Not worth it.

new players should learn some patience and to enjoy games rather than be in a hurry to 'complete them' and move on. maybe then EA and the other big publishers would let game makers make real games again with depth and not just flashy graphics and lots of bugs on release day.

whatever my audio issue was it seems gone although computer voice still seems quieter than it was and could do with a litle boost without needing me to turn down all other sounds.

Hi all.. first of all i apologise for my english.
I havent had time yet to test everything but i just want To say a big thanks to frontier for their incredible work on planets surfaces. . What a wonderfull surprise to land on a planet and see thé beauty of new textures / détails / LOD correction etc..
We still have some glitch issues with the landscape showing lately when flying To fast but doesnt really matter.
So a big thx again. . I was really waiting for that kind of correction.

Sure, if you weren't attacked and killed constantly when trying to trade and enjoy it. The only way to survive is to rank up quickly and make a lot of credits to buy the biggest ships and get them outfitted and engineered to combat. I gave up on trading for this reason. By the way, I have more than 2,000 hours of game play, and only one Elite rank and almost Imperial Duke, but it will be even slower now... Another 2,000 hours perhaps before I can get my Corvette.

When I do trading missions, I tend to get engineered Anacondas after me, with Dangerous rank. Even worse when you pick up 2, 3 trade missions. Then each one sends one. At one time, I had 3 Anacondas after me. It was impossible to get anywhere. Each one interdicting me after another. Didn't enjoy it.

"• Added cockpit chair based lighting (small amount of ambient to stop avatars being completely unlit in dark environments) to all ships where it was missing"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring back dark cockpits!!!!!! This RUINS the contrast of space outside and the HUD. Combat is not nearly as good with this extra light.

Before:

After (NOOOOOOOOOO!):
Elite Dangerous 04.12.2017 - 10.42.54.02.png

I really feel this extra light in the cockpit hurts the experience. I sat there for a few minutes trying to figure out why it looked so different (In a bad way) and realized I can't turn them off. I would be totally for this extra lighting if I had the choice of turning it on or off. Can we add a toggle button!?!? That would be really slick! Land on the dark side of a moon, and turn it on while I'm going through my missions listing. Then turning it off to take off and go bounty hunting in the dark!! yeah! That would be awesome! But having it be this bright all the time sucks.....

Has anyone worked out how to scroll down on their statistics on the right-hand panel since the update? Now that "Holo-Me" has been added in above "Engineers", hitting S or W only moves between those two, rather than scrolling down the main stats panel. I have looked under the key bindings and cannot see any alternative.

Have to say, not entirely sure why we have to have the "Holo-Me" option there in the first place, rather than simply through the starport services screen...

so they STILL base the intercepting npc on your highest rank NOT your ship capability and COMBAT rank and cargo? stupid. im on my way back to the bubble because i was told npcs were nerfed and actually possible to fight in a non rng'd non combat build again. if they are still doing this i guess i may just shelve the game once back to the bubble since i need to farm mats to get my asp jump range up if i am ever to sightsee to Sag A*

During on of the live events they commented that the extra light allowed the internal cameras to work consistently with the room, if the light was not there the camera pack didn't operate with just shadows.

perhaps for those of us exploring 1000s of ly from the bubble would be my guess. and to enable us to 'grow beards' if male as the supplies of non essentials run out far away from inhabited systems.

Haven't checked if the NPCs are nerfed or not. That would help for sure. I think I did see something about cargo check a while back. I sure hope so.

The sillies experience was to carry Bio Waste, and a pirate interdict me and says, "All that tasty cargo"... uh, what? He got some waste fetish or something? LOL! Or even worse, I have a Hauler that's engineered for long range hopping only (40 LY, kind'a cool. And cheap to have transported to a station and then jump around to check on things quickly). However, this Hauler, worth nothing. No cargo. No speed. No weapons. Interdicted and killed for nothing. Stupid.

So... if you're right that they've changed the NPCs. Then I might look into trading again. I remember some months ago, I was doing just regular trading, taking slaves back and forth in a type-7. In one single jump, I was interdicted 3 times. It was before 2.2 though. And these stupid npc's could reboot in 5 seconds. I couldn't even get close to the station. But they fixed this in 2.2 luckily. Now, it's easier to escape the interdiction, and they don't reboot as fast. Still though... lost my interest in it. When it's too hard to profit enough to cover the insurance, the risk/reward ratio isn't worth it.

Not sure about keyboard but on a HOTAS if Holo-Me is highlighted you have to go up so that the Stats pane has input focus, and then you can scroll down. It won't be winning UI of the year that's for sure.

It sounds to me (sorry about the pun) that the ship voice audio level has been changed and there is a general imbalance in audio (I haven't touched my audio setting in options).

It does sound like it has been lowered and is less audible in the balance.

"Mysterious things added"

The one thing that even sparks some curiosity but you add no way of finding them. We still have no scanning equipment for explorers to find things. No persistent POIs except just a few in a massive galaxy. Everything else is random generated noise. This is where your game lacks the most. The one thing that brings the majority of the target audience is exploration and in a couple of years little to almost nothing has been added to further develop the game for explorers. Game could be amazing, but keeps falling short, patch after patch after patch. Sorry but there really isnt anything here that will get me to come back. I rather watch a video on youtube where Obsidian Ant finds these mysterious things for me. It is just not worth my time. I dedicated hours and days and hours looking for barnacles only to find nothing because you made us search manually planet surface after planet surface. Only 1 of a million people will get "lucky" and dig up the code, I mean find the barnacles.

First of all,Im a big fan of Elite (whole my life since C64) and I love the update but the inclusion of the TRAPPIST-1 system could have been much better! Nasa says there could be 6-7 earth-like planets within the Goldie-lock zone.
The TRAPPIST-1 system in ED only has one earthlike planet, pretty pale :/
May I suggest a system I discovered : Bleia dryiae yc-k c25-32 . It has THREE waterworlds with breathable atmo and ONE earthlike, totalling 4 planets with life!
Ofcourse the distance to Sol wouldn't be right, and my system is a two star system :(

I hear ya'.

I managed to find barnacles however, after getting the planet and coordinates from someone else, but I do agree, you explore for a bit, but then the *umph* runs out. Especially after spending a week or two trying to find UAs. I still haven't found one... ever. It seems like the only way is to team up in a wing and attack cargo ships or something? Not sure. But after some hundred USS inspections, I still haven't found an alien artifact to pick up. So, I kind'a given up on that.

The game really is 90% about combat. 9% missions (with combat). 1% trading (with combat). And the rest% (about 0%) ;) exploration and without combat if you get outside of the population. But the only thing you're exploring is jump-honk every star system from here and yonder. It's cool for the first 1,000 stars, but then you've seen them all.

With that said, this game is one of the few games I've played for months. Not many games have ever caught me to this degree.

• New blueprints added to:

- Tiana Fortune:
+ DSS to grade 5, and sensor/scanner – 5

Nope, I'm at Tiana Fortune right now and she only has Grade 3 for Surface Scanners. Who has Grade 5?
