2.3 The Commanders

Give NPC crew and bridge officers to ships, of different background and experience, different maintain/cost requirements, food/beer/medicine(close combat firearms?) needed to be hold/run ship. make they can get hurt and die while in combat.
I can live with that adding stuff to game, much more than 4 players in one ship that will have lag issues from day one.

Something like in Silent Hunter 2/3 submarine crew roster.

To be honest. I Think that MCC is one of those things that sounds great in theory. But, in practice, will be a massive disappointment.

This encapsulates my feelings on the matter.

I just don't see much fun to be had 90% of the time for those other three people.

Don't get me wrong, but... who actually needs this ? I guess most of us play on their own or at least want to pilot their ship, no ? So no need to complicate things unnecessary...

Just my 2 cents...

Pffth! no way im letting a bunch of weirdos into my ship, some idiot turning off shields and weapons in the middle of combat or whatever. just to be an *. What do they lose? nothing! hello rebuy, bye bye 20mil

When we are able to freely roam our ships and stations this feature will make more sense. Its all part of the games road map.

How is this different for you from Wings?

possibly because, say I was on my own and i noticed a 4 player wing in my instance approaching me, or lining up behind me, I can take advance evasive manoeuvres &/or highwake out.

however if i see 1 ship on my scanner I may think fair enough I can take them, not knowing it is this mythical 4 player tanked out special ship.

I'm afraid to say, that the game lacks a huge amount of content to make a real use out of that. But hey, even Privateer had some different "rooms" (screens) back then...

And honestly, how often do you think you'll stand up from your pilots seat to look around in your cockpit, when there's actually nothing to do ? I did it once when I got my Vive and guess what, no dust under my seat...

Sandro did a brief interview the other day

At any rate, I was told that captain customization is still in the works, but don’t assume that means on-foot content is following shortly after that: It’s only a very small step toward non-ship avatar based gameplay. One thing Frontier wants is to give players the ability to look across your ship and see your friends, perhaps in a similar way to the VR Star Trek game (at least as far as what we know of it).

Multicrew ships are still in progress, and when that comes, it’ll be a big update. However, Frontier says multicrewing is seen as something big cargo ships can make use of to defend themselves, and while I couldn’t get a number, Sammarco did emphasize that some carriers would be able to house ships — plural. I was also told it will be “madness” for launchable fighters and multcrew ships to “not to see how they click together– they will click together — in some as yet unannounced way.”

For me. This should either be in from Day1, or not at all.

If you'd been told from Day 1 you needed MCC to operate anything bigger than an Asp (say) then fine. As it is we're going to suddenly find we either can't take off or can't use half the ship out of MCC mode.... Or that MCC mode doesn't actually contribute anything but lag, crashes and personnel issues to the game. If it had always been a case of "you need 2 people to operate an Asp... 3 for an FDL... Four for an Anaconda" then fine. As it is. Can't see it.

Mind you. I'm a Casual player. Maybe I'd feel differently if I were an avid player with my own tribe I usually wing up with most nights?

I recall many years ago, in one of the Elite games I played, you were able to "Hire" NPC Crew in the bigger ships. You had to pay them wages and your reputation had an impact on your ability to hire the right people at the right price. I was pretty neat so it would be great if they implemented that in a future release!

Yes, something like this. I have 0.0 interest in multiplayer and my guess is that this goes for a large part of the userbase.
I fear this will be yet another big disappointment.

Then again, I'd love to be wrong!

I think launchable fighters will be the most used way to use multicrew.

Maybe the second will be trade ships with a second player manuvering shields and weapons while the pilot runs away, if it'll be effective enough and with an appropriate reward sharing (not the ridiculous one in the current wing system)

I'm looking forward to it. People like flying on the same bridge together. It's fun.

Games that do the multi crew thing:

Artimis
HMS Marulken
Pulsar: Lost Colony
Star trek crew (VR)

I might be worth it for fdev to take a look at these games to get some ideas on how to proceed.

Deleted original post. I had this opened on my phone for a good few days and replied to a comment which was no longer relevant.

I'm really looking forward to multicrew :)

It would be awesome.e if wing size increased from four people to four ships so it could be up to 16 people in one wing. Plus add better fighter options and this might be fun again

Or even for smuggling one person manages heat out put like the GTA hacking minigame or something like that and bam way more fun and necessary to make friends and play nice with others

I most certainly was. Had to start avoiding BH targets if they were in wings as I had no hope without help; and when ambushed by wings was . Run and pray was the only choice.

So yea. I was screwed over by wings.

NPCs spawned in groups in Alpah and Beta long before "wings"
Wings just provided a means for Players to do the same

Really hoping for NPC crew, think this could potentially add a lot of depth and game mechanics. I can imagine systems for leveling up your crew with different skills/traits (different calibre of NPCs available based on your rank?), and would really add a motivator up upgrade to different ships.

Also i think a lot of people will kind of expect this and would be a bit of a bummer it doesn't show up.

Remind me again...did FD change their position recently about never adding NPC crew? Outside of SLFs?

1) Attacking one wanted ship did not make others hostile.
2) Players already could work in groups. Wings didn't do anything to make that possible (If it were less buggy: I'd say it helps instancing in open).
